Let's begin this Yelp review from where it all started, Summer 2017. My oldest son is in club…read moresoccer, my middle son enjoys running 5k's, and my youngest son does not like to do what his older brothers do. My youngest son was introduced to YIC Taekwondo because his school mate and sisters were having fun at YIC. My wife and I took our youngest son one summer day to YIC and the rest is history. Let's begin with the family atmosphere The Grand Master Young In Cheon and Master Alan have created. Any time you see either one of them or any of the other Masters or Instructors, you instantly feel as if you are with family. They will make any new student and their family feel welcomed. My family and I had the opportunity to attend the Grand Master's birthday party and it was a blast. It was a potluck with good food and great company. Lets move on to the Taekwondo. Master Alan and all the other Masters & Instructors are incredible. They teach all the students discipline, respect, and they give them a great workout. They all have great patients and they know how to encourage and push the students. Master Alan does not sugar coat his lessons and feedback to the students. I appreciate and respect that tremendously because that is how my youngest son has gained his confidence. We have noticed the change in my son's attitude at home and I credit Master Alan and the rest of the team for that. They really know how to teach students to be respectful to adults. My son has really embraced Taekwondo as a whole. As my son has progressed and earned his different colored belts, he looks forward to the day of the belt test. He enjoys breaking his board, answering some Taekwondo questions, and the poomsae portion of the test. My son recently started sparring and he loves it. At first he was intimidated and a bit nervous, but now he can't wait to go to sparring class. If you are looking for a Taekwondo studio to join, I highly recommend you checkout YIC. My son has been attending now for 6 months, and he has enjoyed every moment of the experience. To be truly honest, so have I.

Master Alan and Master Louis are amazing at building both character and strength in the kids. Both my sons have grown so much- not just physically, but in discipline, confidence, and respect for their masters. It's been incredible to watch them develop strong habits, focus, and a positive mindset through their training. What I love most is how much they truly enjoy it. They've never once wanted to quit--instead, they are motivated to keep progressing, earn higher belts, and one day become leaders in class. Highly recommend it to any parent looking for a place where their kids can grow, thrive, and have fun!

As a parent with children you just have tons of questions and concerns. These are just the…read morebeginning. Next you have to think about pick up situations, distant travel and time. With so many decisions to make I have tried Young Kim's TaeKwondo more because I felt that my daughter needed it. My daughter is shy and many times I felt she needed to build confidence in who she was. I heard a lot of great things from one of our friends and decided to try the class. Once my daughter Laura who is 9 now started the class we both fell in love with the sport. Grand master is a master at his craft along with his wife Senior Master, they make a great combo to get you to work out hard and discipline with the principles of the sport. Master Jason, Master Jesse and instructor Jason have a way with the children that they all respect and love them. My daughter listens to me when I mention their names which is the funny part. She will not listen to me but when I say, "I will have to tell Master so and so" She gets a little more serious and then starts listening. It feels like I am empowered as a mother by the Masters. They learn self discipline, respect, confidence and also to read and get better grades at school. They integrate the sport with school and try to keep the kids motivated to continue to do better. These foundations will keep our children to grow to become leaders for generations to come. Thank you so much for the positive changes in my daughter Laura. Who has made me a proud mother of a Taekwondo red belt. I will end with a thank you SIR!!! Ha-ya

Now, she absolutely loves going to class. It has been so amazing watching her become more confident, stronger, and excited to learn something new each week. I've taken five fundamental classes so far: 4 MMA classes 1 Jiu-Jitsu class 1 Kickboxing Cardio class Why I Recommend It: Well-Organized Curriculum The curriculum is structured in a way that's perfect for beginners. Each class builds on the basics, making it easy to follow along and feel confident even if you've never stepped foot in a martial arts gym before. Supportive Coaches The coaches are incredibly skilled at teaching newcomers. They break things down clearly and provide personal attention to make sure everyone is comfortable. It's clear that they're passionate about helping people learn, regardless of experience level. Friendly & Welcoming Environment From the coaches to the other students, the gym creates a warm and supportive atmosphere. Everyone is kind and encouraging, which made it easy for me to feel at ease and motivated. Concerns Before Joining & How They Were Addressed: No Experience & Adapting to the New Environment I was nervous about fitting in, but the well-organized curriculum and the coaches' experience with beginners helped me adjust quickly. The environment is friendly, and everyone is willing to help out! Concerns About Smells As someone who's sensitive to smells, I was a little worried about the cleanliness of the gym. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that they clean thoroughly between classes, so there's no need to worry about unpleasant odors. When we first enrolled, we were hoping to find an activity that would help our child stay active, learn discipline, and build confidence. What we found was much more than just a martial arts class. Master Kang's Taekwondo has created an environment where children are encouraged to grow not only physically, but also emotionally and socially. One of the things that stands out the most is the quality of the instructors. The teachers are patient, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping each child succeed. They have a great ability to connect with kids while still maintaining structure and discipline during class. The balance between fun and focus is something they manage very well. Classes are engaging and energetic, and the instructor does a great job keeping the children motivated and attentive from start to finish. We especially appreciate the way the program encourages students to support one another. Rather than creating a competitive atmosphere where kids feel pressured to outperform their peers, the instructors focus on building a community where students celebrate each other's accomplishments. When one child achieves something--whether it's mastering a new technique, completing a form, or earning a new belt--the other students are encouraged to cheer them on. It creates a very positive environment where kids learn that success can be shared and that supporting friends is just as important as personal progress. Another important lesson the instructors emphasize is learning to work through challenges and setbacks. Martial arts can be difficult at times, and not every technique comes easily. The instructors consistently encourage the students to keep trying, practice regularly, and not be discouraged by mistakes. Over the past year, we've seen our child become more resilient and willing to keep working at something even when it feels difficult. This mindset has carried over into other parts of life, including school and everyday responsibilities. Accountability is also a big part of what the children learn here. The instructors help students understand that progress comes from effort and consistency. They encourage the kids to learn their routines, listen carefully, and take responsibility for their own improvement. These lessons about discipline and commitment are incredibly valuable and extend far beyond martial arts training. Another thing we really appreciate is how engaging the instructor is with the children. It's not always easy to keep a group of kids focused, especially after a long day at school, but the instructor does an excellent job of making the classes both structured and fun. The students are constantly moving, practicing techniques, and improving their coordination and strength, all while staying excited about what they are learning. One of the best signs that we chose the right place is how much our child looks forward to class. After spending the day at school, it would be understandable if they were tired or reluctant to go to another activity. Instead, our child is always excited to go to Taekwondo and looks forward to every class. That enthusiasm says a lot about the positive environment the instructors have created. The school also offers additional days and activities that help build friendships and teamwork among the students. These events are fun for the kids but also reinforce important life skills such as cooperation, respect, and perseverance. They give the students a chance to bond outside of regular classes and strengthen the sense of community within the school. Over the past year, we have seen a lot of growth in our child. Their confidence has improved, they are more willing to try new things, and they take pride in their progress. The structure and encouragement provided by the instructors have made a real difference. As parents, we also appreciate how welcoming the overall environment is. It's clear that the instructors care about the students and want them to succeed, both in Taekwondo and in life. They create a space where kids feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to keep improving. We plan to continue coming to Master Kang's Taekwondo and supporting our child as they work toward earning their black belt--or until they decide they are ready to move on to something else. Either way, the lessons they are learning here--discipline, perseverance, respect, and teamwork--are skills that will stay with them for years to come. Overall, we highly recommend Master Kang's Taekwondo to any family looking for a program that focuses not just on martial arts, but also on building character and confidence in children. It has been a wonderful experience for our child and our family.
