Pizza is rough because everyone has a preference on sauce, toppings, thickness of crust etc. My wife & I have our own, I like Detroit style, she prefers thiner. Thankfully only in pizza crust (I would be in trouble). We usually try both when trying a new pizza joint to us. We have never tried Jet's pizza. I grew up outside Detroit and lean towards a local competitor. Location is not bad, small parking area in front, with possible parking on side street or larger parking lot next to neighboring restaurant. This is a grab & go pizza joint, not tables inside or out. Staff was friendly, place looked clean & brightly lite with an easy to read menu. Prices were not bad. We did a small of each type & walked around the area until ready. Took about 15-20mins. Pizza was hot and smelled good. Wife took a nibble on the way home. Pizza appearance- okay, not like "Ooh, this looks good" maybe slightly overdone. Color was off. I ate 1/2 of mine, wife had a couple slices. I like to judge a pizza by how long it remains in the fridge. I ate the rest of mine the next day, the Detroit style was good enough to not let go to waste. My wife did not eat hers, and I forgot about it so it hung out in the fridge until trash day. Not a terrible experience, just not our flavor, when feeling this type of pizza will stick with Pizza Pizza. read more

I heard nice things about Jet's from Michiganders and this was pretty good! My friend and I ordered the Super Special, (pizza sauce, premium mozzarella, pepperoni, ham, mushrooms, onions & green peppers) along with some honey bbq wings for the Lions-Commanders game. He placed the online order that morning, but it came about 15 min after the delivery time. Obviously a busy night with all the Lions hopefuls. Really great pizza overall. I was going to do my usual two slices, but decided to go in for one more because it was so good! It's not as tall of a brick pizza as other places, but still enjoyable. Overhyped. Where do I begin? The sauce - bland as ever. No season, nothing. Gross. Sauce and crust makes for a good pizza. Just awful The toppings - just thrown on top so when you bite into pizza they all fall off. It is akin to eating one of those hard Nature Valley bars in the green pack. One bite and the entire "product" crumbles. Awful. Thrown together. Presentation- terrible. One guy in there answering phones, taking orders and preparing pizzas during lunchtime. Like really. Well, the good is finally great thin slice pizza with crispy cooked toppings. Personal sized pizza, 4 medium slices. Tasty. Wings were pretty good as an add on, but not a meal...those were not crispy...bet if they put those through the pizza oven.... The bad: I ordered a Greek salad and in the notes in all caps: NO ONIONS PLEASE!! There was not feta cheese but shredded mozzarella, the yellow peppers were dried out. But look at the onions...ruined it as I tried picking them out but the whole thing wreaked of onions. The bottom line: Hearty, thick, and guilty pizza that can satisfy deeper hunger. Jet's non-circular, thick-crust pizza is reasonably tasty and reasonably priced. The Hawaiian BBQ chicken is my favorite, so far, with a tangy BBQ sauce, tiny sweet pineapple pieces, and medium grilled chicken chunks. It's super satisfying when you're hungry, but Italian pizza traditionalists might scoff at it being called pizza. The cheese version can be similarly satisfying, but I don't love the sauce (I'm not an oregano fan). There is no ambiance, just a busy pickup line, and the staff have been business-like/pleasant. I really wanted to love this place but it felt so flat to me. I love Detroit style pizza and when I ordered the make your own, I was very excited to get all the toppings. While the topping ratio was great I felt like the crust and sauce were super bland. Even the side ranch was one of the blandest ranches I've tasted. The thick crust with the sauce beneath the gooey cheese wasn't bad but if there is a next time, I'll pick it up. I had a colleague introduce me to Jet's Pizza when they brought a one-topping four corner for me to try at lunch. I really enjoyed it, so I figured I would give it a second try with more toppings. It was a mistake. Kudos to the text-to-order functionality because it was easy to order and pay online. The restaurant was clean and there was no crowd or line for waiting. My pizza was even ready in the timeframe projected. I had to ding them on the review because the pizza seemed over baked and toppings were very dry. This was especially true for the sausage and beef toppings. The vegetable toppings all had a little more char than I'm accustomed to seeing on a loaded pizza. I expected crispy edges on the crust, but the underside had dark spots and tasted charred as well. I might be willing to give Jet's one more shot. Maybe I need to try another location. While the staff was very friendly and more than accommodating, this might not be the location for me. read more

Idk how I went so long having never tried Jets! I attended a football watch party at a friends house (they are from Detroit) and they ordered jets. One slice in and I knew I'd be a forever customer! Sure enough 2 weeks later I found myself in Jets picking up an order placed online. This is the BEST pizza in the area! It's thick and made with high quality ingredients! I will say the night I stopped in the physical shop it was packed! It was a Friday night, and the line extended down the entire shop and out into the parking lot. Even for those of us who had placed an order ahead of time they were running slightly behind getting those orders out so there was a lot of standing around. However, upon arrival, I simply told them I was there to pick up my order and they started working on it right away so that I could grab it quick-ish and head out. I was there for about 10 minutes? Note if you are placing an order online, be advised that the wait will be probably closer to 45 minutes and there's no need to come early because the pizza is not ready LOL. But trust me it's worth the wait and by the amount of customers there I can say that others agree. read more

Overall it was ok the crust was crunchy and liked the different flavors you could choose, but the problem was the pizza was very bland. Like tasted very one not and had no saltiness that you would expect from pepperoni and ham. It was a little better with the sauces but not much. We ended up using our favorite marinara sauce and putting that on the pizza with a little finish salt and it made it better. Just over five years ago, I had Jet's Pizza for the first time in Greensboro, and then totally forgot about them... until a friend told me they just opened up in Northern Virginia. Needless to say, I was excited to have it again after such a long time without it. I got a 4 Corner Pepperoni Pizza and Cinnamon Stix. The food did not blow me away; the pizza was solid, and the cinnamon Stix were a little drier than I would have liked. When we tried making food at home and it got messed up, we ordered Jet's for the first time and had it delivered. We got the thicker pizza and were able to personalize our toppings on either side of the pizza. With delivery it was a bit expensive but if you picked it up yourself it would be pretty normal. I thought it was very doughy in a good way and the toppings were awesome. I took one star off though because the sauce needs more spices! Oregano and basil and whatever else - just put spices in. This is the real stuff. Growing up in Detroit, Jet's was our "everyday" pizza place. Not an attempt to be fancy like Emmy Squared, just the basics and they do it well. I'm happy to see that this Jet's is completely consistent with their Michigan locations and haven't skipped a beat translating their delicious pizza to the DMV. This is not Chicago-style pizza. It's thick, but it's on an airy, fluffy type of dough, not dense. A normal portion is 3 square pieces, 4 would fill up someone hungry, and 2 someone with a lighter appetite. They also have really good salads, recommend the antipasto. A couple of tips from a seasoned Jet's eater: 1) While they offer round pizzas, keep to the square Detroit-style side of the menu. The corners are the best pieces, so the 8-Corner Large is where it's at. 2) Go for the Turbo Crust, a free seasoning that they put along the edges. 3) The Ranch dressing is made in-house. In Michigan, this is a form of liquid currency and if you want the full experience, dip your pizza in a side of their ranch. When I arrived for my carry-out order, clearly word had spread. The narrow entryway leading up to the register was several customers deep, with a second line against the wall of people waiting. My online order was ready at the promised time so no issues there. Staff was working hard and the guy at the register was friendly and efficient. There's nowhere to sit inside so be aware that this is carryout and delivery only. read more

I'm a pizza lover, so I was excited to get a new place here in Del Ray/Alexandria. Tried for first time tonight and really liked it. They describe their pizza style as Detroit, which I thought tasted like deep dish or Sicilian (although Sicilian is more doughy, this pizza had nice crispy edges). Fresh ingredients, perfectly baked. I should preface my review by saying that when it comes to pizza, I suppose I fit the "traditionalist" definition. I grew up in a Sicilian family and my grandmother made homemade pizza on the reg. Also, having spent my childhood and teen years in Western Pennsylvania just outside of Pittsburgh, there was no shortage of excellent pizza and Italian food to be found. While I'm not opposed to trying different takes on the pie, I find myself always returning to classic Neapolitan for my pizza fix. So, I did react with a degree of (hopefully) good natured skepticism when a friend of mine who grew up in Detroit went into a state of near ecstasy upon learning that long standing Detroit pizza institution Jet's was opening a location close by. Detroit pizza is a bit of a amped up take on rectangular/square deep dish Sicilian style which can be hit or miss for me. At times, the crust can be too spongy and the grease factor can be high as well. Well, I've had Jet's twice and I'm pleasantly surprised and impressed! Both times, I ordered the 8 corner with bold/cupped pepperoni. I was advised that choosing the multi-topping options can negatively affect the crust as the toppings melt through and add too much moisture, taking away some of the crunch of the crust. So, the crust is really fantastic...just the right amount of crunch and chewy quality, and a minimum of grease. The sauce is an excellent melding of tart and sweet...it does veer toward being just a slight touch sweeter than I normally go for, but the offsetting tartness provided a rich complexity. The pepperoni was spicy and not overly salty which is a big plus, and just the right amount of Mozzarella was used. This is a very substantial pizza, and reheats extremely well. It's not going to replace my favorite Neapolitan places, but for a change of pace it's a winner.
