First off, Thank you Dr Cruz. We had noticed a loss of appetite on my 5 year old Doberman a couple weeks back. Originally believed she had upset her tummy, her sister had done so previously and been okay switching over to a special diet. Got her checked at our normal Vet, blood was good, got X rays done to be safe, nothing found then. She didn't regain appetite, they hydrated her, and recommended an ultrasound. The ultrasound was then done at VCA emergency care and revealed a foreign object found in her intestinal tract that couldn't be passed. The quote was on the higher end for the surgery to be done there and have her stay in the 24hour facility for the following two days. My partner not entirely comfortable with the thought of our little one being away from us looked for potential options near by. A family member in our group chat had recently visited this Veterinary Hospital and had recommended it to a friend as well, both had positive experiences. We phoned in to see if there was any way we could have our Doberman in for an emergency surgery, note it was around 1pm in the afternoon on a Friday. Dr Cruz spoke with us over the phone, he quoted a price we were able to cover for the surgery, and took us just hours after the call. We traveled from the emergency facility at VCA fountain valley and arrived at Jets Pet Hospital in Fullerton shortly after our call, once checked in Dr Cruz identified me and my pup in the waiting room brought us back and explained to me what was going to happen. Dr. Cruz has been a god send for us. Our dog quickly develop a mass on her abdomen and in the span of 4 weeks it started to ulcerate and perforate. My shared ownership with this dog made it difficult to agree on treatment options due to costs and possible surgery complications. We were looking at $7,000+ for mass removal at other vet hospitals, but here they just charged us $2,000. Dr. Cruz was able to give itemized estimates and was extremely responsive to our messages. 2 years ago, I met Dr.Cruz when he performed a surgery on my dog Maddux. He was the only vet who explained what was going on with him and his kidney stones that were stuck in his urethra. Dr.Cruz was able to take my dog in the same day I reached out for support to complete the surgery. He even cleaned his teeth while he was under anesthesia. I don't know what I would've done without his support during that health scare. Most recently, (5/1/25) I reached out to him to help me with a rash my dog had that was not going away and only getting worse. I made an appointment at his new clinic. He took a look at it and recommended a steroid shot, 2 kinds of medications, and a special shampoo. Prior to the visit, my dog wouldn't even allow me to touch his tummy. 3 weeks out and my dog's stomach is so much better. He's back to his normal self. During the 3week check up I asked about flea and tick medication because summer is coming up. Dr.Cruz recommended I also add the heart worm medication. So they tested Maddux, and within less than 10 minutes we had the results and were given his flea/ tick and heart worm medication. When I learned that Ozzy urgently needed a blood transfusion due to anemia, I was devastated. I reached out to several clinics and ERs, but many were asking for $2,000 to $4,000 just for the transfusion, not including exam fees, additional charges, and up to $1,000 for an overnight stay. I contacted numerous organizations, but none of them responded. Then, one evening, I received a text from Dr. Cruz. He had heard about Ozzy's situation, offered helpful advice, and quoted me a reasonable price. He also suggested we find a donor, as ordering blood from a blood bank would cost approximately $1,500!
