I noticed a small…read moreprinted sign advertising fine art materials in a dark stairwell at the bottom of a tiny building on Aberdeen Street whilst sheltering from the weather and made a note to come back and explore, which I did. The address is actually on Wellington Street, but as mentioned above, the entrance is at the bottom of Aberdeen Street. Just follow the signs up and you'll arrive at a quaint door with a sign rather appropriately painted on an artist's paint palette. When I visited a small class was taking place with the students all working on individual projects. The level of ability in the class seemed relatively undeveloped so it seems that beginner's are very welcome at Atelier Sun Ho. I was hoping to find an art store closer to home than my usual shop of choice, Artland, but was a little disappointed by the tiny range of materials available. I also did not recognise any of the brands but was assured that they were of top quality despite being made in China. The small range of metallics paints (acrylic) caught my eye but I couldn't think of anything to use them for so resisted the urge to buy. There were a number of pre-stretched canvases available but no sketch books or watercolour pads. Individual pages of watercolour paper was on sale for $15/pc which works out marginally cheaper per page than the Daeler Rowney pads I usually purchase. I ended up only buying two rather charming pots of various charcoal sticks which were packaged in cardboard and decorated with a Chinese ink painting design. At only $22 a set, they are considerably cheaper than the Daeler Rowney sets I've used in the past and just as effective to use. All in all, Atelier Sun Ho is a cute little art shop for basic staples but is lacking in supply. The cash only policy is inconvenient given the nearest HSBC is on Queens Road Central but the goods are generally inexpensive compared to more prominent art supply stores.

Offering a wide rage of dance styles from the more popular Hip Hop and Jazz funk to contemporary and Ballroom, SD believes that dancing is for everyone and anyone can dance. Located in an industrial building in Fortress Hill, a large space is reserved for the 2 dance studios for dance classes to take place. Normal dance classes hold around 20 or so people whereas during big events such as dance festival, in which renowned tutors and dancer abroad are invited to give classes in HK, the rooms could pack up to 50 people! Earlier classes start at 17:30 where as most classes start 19:00 and 20:30 catering to the working population, SD would be your another option other than hitting the gym and lifting dumbbells. The energetic dance moves not only will make you sweat, but will make you a star on the dance floor as well~ Just a side note, the couches outside of the studios are quite ideal for a quick nap and indeed many students often do too before the classes start; but if manners are in concern, I would suggest not to do so.

Came here for a bread class with my cousin and had a great time. When we arrived, the bright and…read morewell-equipped classroom has our places set already with the utensils and ingredients. As there were some non-Chinese speakers in the group the instruction was in English. Recipe was provided and the hands on instruction was easy to follow. There's an assistant who keeps busy removing dirty utensils and wiping clean the work area, and makes it a much less messy and much more pleasant experience than baking at home, lol. There's a break during which scones and tea were served. Overall a relaxing and fun way to spend some time, especially with a friend or two. This class was a beginner's level, but when I asked the instructor questions it was clear he is quite experienced and passionate with baking. The classroom is located on the top floor of a building, and they have a nice garden with view, though we didn't get to sit there. HKD 800 (over US$100) per person is rather pricey for a 3 hour class, but the small class size ensures that anyone needing extra help (me included definitely) got the attention, to make sure their end product comes out successful.

I then emailed the info@ address on their site and heard back from Victor within a day. Unlike most of the team building classes in HK, the Mixing Bowl allows you to use Paypal which was a huge plus for me. Onto the delicious details. The Mixing Bowl specializes in bread making, but they also offer classes such as the Traditional Hong Kong class we took (egg tarts, sausage rolls, and pineapple buns). Not your thing? You can also learn how to expertly make artisan cinnamon buns, scones, matcha donuts, fresh egg pasta, croissants, pies, and macarons. Their studio is spacious and modern, and the setup promotes maximum interaction with your group. I never thought that learning how to make egg tarts, pineapple buns, and sausage rolls would be easy and fun, but it was! Victor seamlessly moved from guidance on precise measurement to the proper kneading technique. And you won't go hungry whilst waiting for your goodies to bake, either - we stopped for a proper tea break replete with freshly-bakes scones, jam, and clotted cream! Mmm, clotted cream. We all went home happy with big bags of the baked goods we just made together. I look forward to taking another class here now that I've discovered my inner pastry chef!

I studied "Russian for Beginners" at the RLC's Wanchai site for around 8 months before visiting my…read morefather, who lives in Moscow. I found the Russian Language Center in Hong Kong after a quick Google search, and didn't know what to expect. After only the first month, I was surprised by how quickly my Russian language skills were developing! Dima - or Dmitry - was my teacher, a native Russian speaker who held the twice-weekly lessons in excellent English. He still holds the beginner and intermediate classes at Sheung Wan today. As I was working, I would attend night classes from 7pm to 8.30pm, Mondays and Thursdays. The group was fairly mixed, with around 5 people of a few different ethnicities. I liked how my course was very well suited to my beginner status, and Dima is an excellent teacher, keeping the classes informative, fun, and interactive. All you need to bring with you is a notebook and pen, and they provide you with the Russian textbook that comes with a CD with MP3 recordings of certain exercises. Learning Russian was quite difficult, but the classes were so well-structured that I noticed my speaking and writing improving after only a few months. The best part was that Dima would send 'follow-up' emails after every lesson, informing us of what was written on the whiteboard, extra notes, links, MP3 recordings, documents, and reminders for homework. It was important to get the homework done otherwise you'd feel a little left behind, as the course does move quite swiftly from introduction to quite challenging grammar. For anyone wanting to learn Russian, I would definitely recommend the RLC.
