I know mommas complain about grass stains and dirt stains. But it's better than blood stains. Kids get rough. Kids fall down. Black top is unforgiving. There could be traumatic brain injuries and worse. I know the playground doubles as a parking lot for mass and that's where a lot of funds come in but regardless. Total insanity starts in the summer. They have softball leagues playing on the hard black top. Not cabbage ball. Softball. With aluminum bats and gloves. So you have a relatively hard ball coming off a metal bat bouncing off black top. Players diving and sliding on black top. That's a recipe for disaster. If a kid falls on his/her knees that's it. A bum knee for decades and knee replacement eventually. Believe it. It would be idea if the school laid down a layer of a foot or two of soil and grow grass. Sure mommas won't like the grass stains and church goers won't like parking on often times wet grass but still. It's a lot better than leaving your kids running around and falling down on hard blacktop.

They do such a great job of making school a fun and engaging environment. The elementary school is a wonderful environment with low student-teacher ratios, a beautiful blend of the traditional classroom with art and music built into the day. The middle school is wonderful. Small classes, personal attention, a great mix of fun, academics, and art. I have seen incredible personal growth for all three of my daughters. I am so thankful my girls get to attend Ursuline and join their incredible rich history of educating catholic young women.

My daughter is THRIVING here and is so excited to come to school that she runs down the street, through the gates, down the hall, and immediately to her classroom. Joining this school was like joining a Hogwarts house - we didn't join a school, we joined a vibrant community. Many of my daughters classmates have had all their relatives go to school here, the ties run deep! They have so many ways to get involved, socialize, and fun events that it feels like I joined a club or sorority. I run into parents from my daughters class outside of school often and I no longer feel like a stranger to New Orleans, but a welcomed member of my new community. Being a part of this school has been my favorite thing about New Orleans so far. Also, I love the outfits, the logo, and the breathtakingly beautiful grounds. Morris Jeff Community School (MJCS) is the fulfillment of that vision. In Fall 2010 the school opened its doors on Poydras Street as one of the most racially and economically diverse open-access public schools in the history of New Orleans with 185 Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Fast forward to 2021, and MJCS now has over 1400 students situated on 3 separate campuses (elementary, middle & high schools). The school(s) are named after Morris F.X. Jeff Sr, who was a civic leader and pioneer in educational and recreational opportunities for kids in New Orleans. My son has gone to MJCS since Pre-K 4 and is now in the 4th grade.
