During the first child's time, there were bullying incidents and understaffing leading to abuse. I saw a teacher assistant slam my daughter to the ground aggressively. My child suffered emotional distress that we still deal with. The final incident was starving my baby who started at a chunky 35 pounds and lost weight over a month due to inadequate meals and fluids despite their claims. I noticed when her clothes started to off and her bones were becoming visible. They harmed my child causing food insecurity. I have an active CPS case and a state citation. Please for the Love of God choose another daycare. They are not the best in Chalmette!!!

They are very flexible with drop-off and pick-up times, and have before-care and after-care at no additional cost. Spanish lessons start at age 1. The rooms are clean, they have structured days, and an excellent child-to-teacher ratio. Safe sleep environment for infants. Cons: I know from a former teacher that they don't pay their teachers a living wage, which must affect morale and how they show up to work. The teachers all seemed burnt out and scared. None of them talked to us, nor did it seem the administration wanted them to talk to us. Also heard from previous staff they have in the past (not sure about currently) been discriminatory towards non-Catholic students, i.e. not providing them with needed occupational or speech therapy. (Illegal) The days are structured, but are they too structured? These are babies. They start wearing uniforms at age 1, which I thought was hilarious. So do they need 20 uniforms for a week for how many changes of clothes they go through? No diversity among the preschool population. Almost exclusively white. The food included for ages 2 and up was catered and all came in styrofoam containers. The thought of this kind of waste and environmental damage is unfathomable. Ultimately, not the place for our child.

I would say Cathedral Montessori ranks at working-class affordability, and by that, you would have to be making $50K-$75K gross annual income (pending how many kids you are enrolling). It's on the pricier side but definitely affordable, and definitely worth the bucks. From the moment I drove up to the school, I hearted it. The school is a large house, located in the Lakeview area, behind the Greek Orthodox Church. The building is completely designed and setup like a school. Very open and airy. The division of each room is strategically and perfectly laid out. Lots of learning tools, and being that it is a Montessori curriculum, there is a lot of learn through play going on. Their kitchen area, neat and clean with fresh bananas for the children. Each week a parent is assigned the duty of providing snacks. The older kids are in an unattached building on the property, and that too was very spacious. The courtyard area had lots of toys for the kids, and there was even a garden that they grow vegetables and flowers, as part of their science curriculum. I was told they had butterfly's they recently released. Seems like they do a lot of fun activities. The children looked very happy and the group of children attending was New Orleans version of mixed (diversity). I had an excellent interview with the Director, Jan. Seeing my children interact so well with the other kids, I was ready to enroll them that day.

While some preschools focus so much on academics, Woodland allows kids to do what they do best - play. My kids come home with crafts every week and beg to go to school over holidays and the summer. They always have holiday programs for the kids and who doesn't love to see their three or four year old in a Christmas play? Tuition is not horribly expensive like other preschools in the city. Parents tend to be regular middle class people of a variety of faiths (we're not Presbyterian per se). It does fill up, so check with the office well in advance of the beginning of the school year.

He absolutely loves Amigo Ames and looks forward to going to school everyday. The staff is very friendly, and they follow a curriculum so your child actually learns something. After the morning "class" they have lunch and get to play outside. Not only am I paying $100 less in tuition a month than what I would at his previous daycare, but I also paid $10 less for each of his uniform shirts. He's very happy w/ the change and the only thing I wish is that I would have enrolled him here from the beginning instead of making a switch so far into the "school" year.

Their vision was to create a school that reflects the diversity of the city both in the children that will attend and in the education they will receive; a school that is child-centered and about more than just test scores. Morris Jeff Community School (MJCS) is the fulfillment of that vision. In Fall 2010 the school opened its doors on Poydras Street as one of the most racially and economically diverse open-access public schools in the history of New Orleans with 185 Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Fast forward to 2021, and MJCS now has over 1400 students situated on 3 separate campuses (elementary, middle & high schools). The school(s) are named after Morris F.X. Jeff Sr, who was a civic leader and pioneer in educational and recreational opportunities for kids in New Orleans. My son has gone to MJCS since Pre-K 4 and is now in the 4th grade. I think 2 years ago, I would have given the school a 4 star review, but as of lately, the growing pains of the school, in my opinion, have created a few concerns for me as a parent. But overall, MJCS is a very solid school.
