Colchester Camera Repair Services - Colchester Camera Repairs

Colchester Camera Repair Services

(3 reviews)

This would be a TEN STAR review if that were possible…read more These guys are AMAZING. PLEASE USE THEIR SERVICES!! Rather coincidently (or not), my father and I who both came into owning a Canon Powershot G9 each around the same time, found that these cameras 'mysteriously' stopped working within a couple of weeks of each other when they were about 3 years old, in spite of them being well looked after (no impact or liquid damage etc). I took mine into Calumet in London who charged over £30 for a quote, and set a fixed price (apparently issued by Canon) of about £150 to get it fixed. They would NOT tell me what the problem was, although they claimed it had been sent off for this quote. Sceptical and rather unhappy, I discovered after some further research, that there seemed to be a problem with these cameras having a screw come loose inside, which is very easy to fix, with the right expertise of course. Colchester CRS offered to look at both cameras free of charge, and said this if it were the loose screw issue, they would fix them both, FREE OF CHARGE. So I sent them both off, and within 10 days, they shipped them back secure delivery, FIXED at NO COST at all to us. Unbelievable. They didn't even ask for the shipping cost to be reimbursed. I am now again the proud owner of a working G9 (as is my father). I am so impressed with this company, I really hope I am singing their praise loud enough!

I'm happy with the repair that they carried but it's a shame their approach to customer service is…read moreso poor. After sending my camera off with a description of the fault, I received an email a few weeks later with an invoice attached. The invoice was for the return post and packaging costs only as according to them, there was nothing wrong with my camera. I called to try and find out why they couldn't find the fault and was 'greeted' by a unfriendly woman who insisted their was nothing wrong with my camera and spoke to me like I some sort of fool. After some negotiation, they took a look at my camera again and found the fault. I waited 8 weeks for an update and when I contacted them I was informed that they had sent me an email with a quote for the repairs. After checking my inbox, nothing was found. These things happen? My camera came back yesterday and is now working fine. My suggestion would be that if they find there to be nothing wrong with a camera, why not give the customer a quick call to clarify? The chances are if they've sent you something to repair, it probably needs repairing. Finally, nobody like being spoken to like they are dumb. Think on Colchester Camera.......
