I was traveling for work for two months and desperately needed a clean up while away from home. After work, I called and spoke with a woman on the phone to set up a same-day booking, to which she gladly said yes. When I walked in, I was greeted immediately by the friendly staff and sat comfortably as I waited for my name to be called. Jesse himself was my barber, cleaning up the edges, clipper over comb, and taking some off the top with scissors. He even cleaned up my beard for me, all the while being a pleasure to talk to. A great first experience, i'd enjoy going back if I were ever traveling in the area again. read more

My son used to have the hardest time getting haircuts. We started bringing him to Jesse's Barbershop a couple of years ago and initially worked with Jesse, who was wonderful. Our little guy would not sit down and couldn't handle the sound/sensation of the clippers so Jesse would let him stand and do a scissor cut. Once Jesse retired, we started bringing him to Mercedes. She is absolutely amazing! After only 3 haircut visits with her, we were finally able to give him his first real "big boy" haircut. He sat in the chair and she was able to use the clippers throughout most of the cut. He walked out of there with a huge smile and a cool haircut. I'm praying that Mercedes stays for many, many, many years because she has a magical way with little ones. Highly recommend! read more

I have been coming to Jesse for a haircut for about 20 years now. I've seen it grow from just Jesse to the staff he has now. He always remembers the cut I get each time and I've never had a bad cut. Jesse is a really polite, friendly, genuine guy. He remembers everyone's name and the conversation is always light. The fact that they are busy speaks to the service and popularity of Jesse and his team. Most of us that are regulars know that we often need to book a few days out for an appointment but that's not a big deal. I dont go anywhere else, even though I have to travel a little way for my appointments. read more

I thought it would be funny to go to a Barbershop with my name on it. :) They don't cater to walk ins but we're happy to give me the first open spot. When they asked my name, I said, "Jesse, J-E-S-S-E", spelling out my name as I always do. Easily 90% of men and about 75% of women misspell my name by adding an I before the E, or ending it in a Y, or any of many alternatives I've heard over the years. I said thanks and left. Through a screen door I heard some combination of employees and customers thought it would be a good idea to mock me spelling my name. "Are you sure you know how to spell that?", "Is that with a capital J?", and other nonsense. Perhaps they thought it was funny - I thought it was stupid for a business to openly mock a new customer, and doing it in front of their current customers no less. Seems they should be in the comedy club business rather than the barbershop business. I'm now sitting in a chair a block from their business getting a haircut, happily spending money with a business that values customers. read more

I have been there 4 times mid day. 2/4 there is no one even waiting .. nothing .. and before I can even say anything the same guy says "we are booked for the day" does not even try to get my service ... does not even try to book me. Just says the same thing and continues to cut hair. Just horrible service. A simple "I'm all booked but give me a sec and I will book you my next available slot" it's not that hard. To respond to you, what exactly did I say that was a lie? I went in.. multiple times now .. and you responded with .. "sorry we are booked" and continued to cut and I left. just realized after I posted my review, I failed to mention why we drove all the way to San Marcos for haircuts. John moved there from Garcia's on State Street when they closed, and he's been cutting Wyatt's hair since he was five. now that the kid's six-feet tall, he no longer needs a booster seat but still needs John to handling the shearing. we've been back since our initial visit. great service. great haircuts. great little barber shop. ps: was deeply troubled when I realized Fred Astaire doesn't actually work at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Oceanside. After reading all the amazing reviews on Yelp I decided to give this barbershop a try. Upon arriving to my scheduled appointment I was informed that the hairdresser/ female barber accidentally overbooked etc etc and asked for me or the other party to basically leave or wait. That was not really cool but wtv mistakes happen. What I am not cool with is that I ended up getting a STAPH Infection from my haircut! Had to visit a Dr and get antibiotics . Looking back on it maybe the barber didn't clean the clippers and some additional concerns is no alcohol was rubbed on my hairline like every other barber does. It pains me to write such a negative review but when your hygiene standards are lacking it's a major red flag. The barber was extremely friendly but sanitation is the most important thing!!! PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE VISITING. read more

Who thinks a barber shop is for women???? My first thought was, ummmm NO! Let me tell you my thoughts now...this is a hidden gem...I am so THANKFUL I took the plunge, called and spoke to Jesse. I told him what I needed and if he could help...he was polite and said, "YES, he has 3 women at the shop and yes, they cut women's hair. He recommended me to see Vesna. I made my appointment, Vesna was friendly, listened to my needs and stated cutting my hair. I absolutely LOVE the cut and will definitely recommend Jesse's Barber Shop to all my female friends. My sons and I have been going to Jesse's Barber Shop for nearly 10 years and we've always received fantastic hair cuts. The shop is privately owned so there is no corporate nonsense present and the free coffee is privately roasted by Jesse himself. If you have a morning appointment you're likely to be greeting with fresh donuts. The room has a warm and friendly vibe that has always been welcoming. After relocating from another state, it's always scary having to start over with all of your important people (barber, dentist, doctor, etc.). After reading all of the great views about Jesse's Barber Shop here on Yelp, I thought I'd give it a try. I was immediately greeted by Sheryl who welcomed me in and was available to cut my hair. (The other barbers, were equally as friendly as they greeted me when I walked inside, even though they were busy working with each of their clients). The place has a nice atmosphere with photos on the wall of barbershops in the past. The music provides some energy, but it's not overbearing like I've experienced at some other barbershops. Sheryl is terrific! She reminds me of a friend I've known for a long time. She shows an interest in you and we had a great conversation about a variety of topics. Not only is Sheryl super friendly, but she did an amazing job cutting my hair (and I'm pretty picky too!). She listened to how I wanted my hair cut and she delivered perfection. I look forward to my next visit and highly recommend Jesse's Barber Shop, and of course, Sheryl! read more

I'm so glad I found Jesse's Barber shop through Yelp. He and the two other barbers are I've seen are definitely top notch in their trade. Maybe I'm just picky but I never imagined needing to look around for someone who can cut my 11 year old son's hair. I've taken him to random places throughout his young life. Made my husband an appointment on line yesterday for a hair cut today. When he went for his appointment they told him they were having trouble with there on line appointments and they could not cut his hair. Came to Jesse's Barber Shoo for the first time and it is a great friendly barbershop. Owner and staff seem very welcoming. Although it was my first time here I came because Sheryl just started here. She has been my barber for almost a year now and love her work. She's a perfectionist and understands my hair and is great at suggesting things that would work better for my stubborn hair. Twenty years with my former Hair-cutter, who has become a good friend, but distance and convenience resulted in a move. What a treat to find Jesse's.. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcome. Always a smile, and a feeling of genuine appreciation for my business.. Vesna is a sweet person, and does a great job on the haircut too. Michelle is such a sweet one too.. First time coming to Jesse's barber shop but certainly won't be my last! There was no wait time as walk-ins are welcome and I was instantly greeted with a warm welcome by Jesse himself. Jesse had me get a haircut from Michelle who has experience with military members and veterans. She took her time and was very thorough. It was honestly one of the better haircuts I have had in a long while. What I appreciated most is the fact there was no line out the door and they were very friendly as well as personable. I will definitely return to Jesse's barbershop because they go above and beyond most barbershops. I can't tell you how many times I've entered a barbershop and just never been greeted or let alone spoken to. Might be a friendly place but no customers were wearing masks those in the barber chairs (3) or waiting. One barber, older woman, not wearing a mask. Just a plastic face shield and not even that some of the time. Will never go back. From the conversations overheard this place is full of ultra right wing types. read more

When you need something done you want to hire a professional. Whether it is a doctor, dentist, or barber.. you want a professional. The major difference between a pro and an amateur is experience. The longer one practices their profession the better skilled they become. And this is why I use the nice lady Sheryl at Jesse's Barber Shop. Not only is Sheryl a real pro, she's a very nice person. A truly skilled barber with many years of experience in cutting many different styles of hair from the youngest to the oldest. The other Barbers at Jesse's Barber Shop are also very nice and skilled. You won't find a better group of barbers than at Jesse's Barber Shop in San Marcos. If you want quality by professionals done by nice people in a relaxed atmosphere.. Generally Spencer hates haircuts because he's very sensitive to the sounds of the clippers and also the hair really irritates him. But I spoke to Erik and let him know Spence is on the Autism Spectrum and he was extremely patient and kind, he worked well with him and I really appreciate his excellent service & quality work. It was nice to be in the back room because it was quieter and less stimulating (Spencer has a hard time with an over stimulating environment) so it all worked out perfectly. Erik mentioned that he has several clients with autism and you can tell he's got the experience, he has a very calm & patient demeanour and that makes the world of difference for clients on the spectrum.
