The security of the school has been stepped up the most prominent change being the new gates on the upper play ground between the nursery and reception. A must for all us mothers who worry about kids wandering out the gate, these are kept locked and now it is a secure area for reception and nursery children to play with a new play area built for them and a new sheltered seating area. The kids are all encouraged to do their best at all times and the teachers are friendly but firm with them. The school has time for its pupils and will at times go above and beyond what is expected of them to help with any difficulties that arise in and out of school.

Once we'd removed all the faith schools from equation, Raddlebarn is in the Top 40 schools in the entire city, which was a fairly good recommendation. A better recommendation comes from the parents of the kid who go there (many of whom are either our friends, or else neighbours) and almost all of them have got nothing but good things to say about the place. The school has a lovely feel to it and I feel 100% confident in sending our boy there next year.

Some of the teachers lacked in discipline and even let pupils get away with cheating in exams! The I.T. department was dreadful, with us pupils knowing more than the teachers at times. The best departments were the art, history and textiles departments. The teachers always had innovative new ways to teach us and most lessons were a joy. The school dinners were not nice and I spent the last two years of my time there going home for dinner. The school did receive a very good OFSTED report whilst I was there and I hear that it is continuously improving under the supervision of the great head mistress!

An independent school with a hefty price tag, it's also got the educational achievement and well-educated teaching staff to make it worthwhile. It's known locally as "the posh school"! Sollihull School is a day school for children aged 7-18. Children may attend for all 10 years of their Junior and Senior school years, or apply for admission at the age of 16, to attend only the Sixth Form school. The school is situated on several acres near Sollihull town centre on a very attractive plot with emerald-green lawns and Georgian red brick buildings. The only building that seems to really need some improvement is the gymnasium, which is being rebuilt in 2010-2011, thankfully. The extensive and demanding curriculum includes the Arts, the Classics, Business Studies, an excellent Music programme, and dedication to the Sciences, just to name a few. The school operates a no-tolerance approach to bullying, and the pupils I know who go there say that teachers and play area assistants are quick to intervene if a child is being isolated or bullied. Though the A Level and GCSE results are excellent, the homework load is not very rigorous, leaving families and children time for extra-curricular activities. The fees are high, at just over £7700 per year for under-11s and just under £9500 for over-11s. A recent Independent Schools Inspectorate Report read: "The Junior School at Solihull is a happy, close-knit community in which pupils thrive through a varied curriculum well-suited to their needs." My son is close friends with several pupils who attend the school, and they always seem pleased with their teachers and fellow pupils. No child really likes school, but picking a good one is one of the best things a parent can do to further their child's success in later life.

I honestly don't think that their mum could have chosen a better school for them in the immediate area. I can't remember us ever having any problems with the staff or their policies, and it was a pleasure to watch both children blossom under the school's guidance and tuition. Although the school is Jewish run and the pupils do learn about Jewish traditions, the mix here is as multicultural as it gets, with many Muslim and Christian pupils, as well as pupils who have on religious background at all. The school itself is in a very nice building in lush surroundings. In conclusion, I'd say that if you're looking for a primary school in this area, make sure you at least check out what King David's Junior and Infant School has to offer.
