It did not disappoint for their first Filipino meal in Manila. Service was a little off... friendly staff but not attentive. We were kind of left in the corner and forgotten. Nobody checked on us and we had to wait for our bill. We could have walked away without paying. Would have been so easy to eat and run... place is not totally enclosed and we were seated at the far edge of the restaurant away from the bar or the view of the staff. For a restaurant at a high end BGC area, the ambiance of this place is also a bit off and on the low end side. Will come back here only if it's the only choice I have.

This little corner at the end of the Fort Strip stands out from all the other semi-fancy places next to it. It's a no-nonsense, no-aircon, bbq kiosk that sells all your favorite grilled food (with a full bar too!). After minutes of trying to decide I ALWAYS end up getting the Heavenly Barsilog, 2 pieces of BBQ over a hot bed of rice! It sounds a little bitin and admittedly I get takaw tingin and think of getting more, good thing my friends always stop me. It hits the spot, every single time, and I leave just full enough! There really isn't anything like Filipino comfort food and I promise you Heaven's has got that covered! (Oh and they also deliver for those days you need EXTRA comforting and can't get out of bed!)

I used to frequent their branch along C5 since it used to be on the way to my school. My usual order was their Shepherd's Pie. Nothing special really, but it was just the simple taste of a home cooked meal that made me love it. Yesterday, I decided to order something different. Having been away from home for a few weeks, my taste buds were craving for something Pinoy. They now have an All Day Breakfast menu which includes my favorite Filipino Breakfast, beef tapa. I honestly wasn't expecting much, nor was I expecting service to be so quick, but when I first laid my eyes on the plate, I knew it had to be good! Now, for tapa, I like to make sure that I've got all aspects in my spoon. First the garlic rice, then a part of the egg, then some tapa dipped in vinegar, and to top it all off... Atchara! And that first bite? Maaaaan. That first bite. It was heaven. I fell in love. It was like a beef tapa bacon. Tasty, salty and crunchy. It was so good that whenever my boyfriend would ask for a bite, I would let him get a spoonful with a heavy heart. I absolutely did not want to share my food! Mom & Tina's definitely became part of my Best Tapas in town list!

It's weird because no one talks about it but yes, you can find us there all together once a year. Though I do visit this branch more often than once a year since I like how the place looks (like a doll house) both on the inside and outside. I think this place can accommodate slightly more people than the other branches but I could be wrong. I love their desserts and their baked goodies specially their Bacon empanada. Yes, please! The winning dish for me here is their Paella and their roast beef. But more often than not, I get their breakfast options since I am a breakfast person. Definitely worth a try! How's your Mom & Tina's experience?

Most of the time they are tough to chew, and the meat strands get stuck between my teeth. Rub was nowhere near my dinner plans that day, but my wife, who didn't have a satisfying lunch, was craving for meat, so we ended up in Rub. Rub is always full, both the restaurant and the parking. It isn't my first time with this brand though. Good thing the guard was accommodating to accept our side parking. We did meet a line, but turnover was fast and we were seated right away. We ordered the family brunch (ribs + 3 sides), caesar salad, and ultimate fries and I enjoyed everything. The ultimate fries was like poutine on steroids. The generous serving of fries was topped with bacon, jalapeno, and pulled pork, and it was covered in cheese. It was actually filling, yet it was also fun to eat. The caesar salad came as a surprise to me because it had loads of shrimp popcorn in it that actually gave a crunch and added flavor to it. It was overly dressed as per my wife, but it was just right for me. The shrimps are fried but only with a light breading, so as not to be sharp. The ribs are very tender, saucy, flavorful, and fall off the bones. I also loved the sides dishes we ordered: Garlic Spinach, Mashed Potatoes, and Coleslaw. The dinner was worthwhile and it was worth the wait.

I went inside Megamall and my first instinct was to look for a restaurant that would probably have a landline. Of course, I may as well head to one that I haven't tried, right? Fireside had a very spacious layout, with neutral tones accented by red (the logo has red obviously) and has a homey but sophisticated vibe. The server took my order and assisted me to their landline so I can get in touch with my Dad and make arrangements for picking me up. The Grilled Chop House Salad was a generous serving of greens, slices of pork, crumbled cheese, broccoli and other veggies. For merienda, I'd say it was light enough that I was able to finish it but also heavy enough that it lasted me until dinner. Incredibly grateful for the courtesy and hospitality of the staff, plus glad to have peeked into the taste of Fireside.

They were still on soft opening back…read morethen but the interior of the relatively newly-opened restaurant in Megamall was enough to invite us in. Plus, finding out that Fireside is actually the sister restaurant of Kettle was what sealed the deal. The restaurant primarily had a chic urban setting. With unpainted cement partnered with couches and pillows, Fireside looked like an undone apartment. Yet it still had an upscale feel to it. The food that Fireside churned out was not at all bad either. I've gotten to try their Australian lamb chops and they were simply divine. Despite the fact that we were only two, we got to finish one whole plate of it. Hahaha. It was very savoury, definitely lived up to the level of deliciousness Kettle was known for. Alongside that, we tried out their infamous chicken tenders with cornbread biscuits. Now this was a home run! The buttermilk chicken fingers were reminiscent of Kettle's Buttermilk Chicken but in a form that was easier and less messy to eat. And their cornbread biscuits? They just basically rocked my world! They come in ball-like forms so it's easier to share. Some of my other recos would be their Mac n' Cheese, Ceasar Salad with Bacon, and Potato Chips with Sour Cream dressing. Haaaaay, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. ALSO! If you're a baconatic like me, order Fireside's Bacon (they come in as a side order). It's basically fried bacon steak. Yup, they're not strips. 'Nuff said, right? I have yet to go back to Fireside to check out their other dishes but for now it gets 5 stars from me. If you haven't visited Fireside, please do go. I'm sure you will not regret it!
