After we discussed about the color I wanted which was ashy brunette and after I agreed with the picture, Taylor proceeded to start working on my hair. My balayage color didn't turn out ashy at all but blonde and Taylor suggested I come back for touch up for toner after 2 months. I am not satisfied with the result as color was not what I wanted. If I had known that it would need more than 1 treatments, then I didn't have to take risk to drive to Arlington, I would have gone to my regular salon.

Let the adventure begin!! I walk into what looks like a dental office from the outside:) a woman greets me at the desk and a nice man... I say I'm a walk in! They tried to get me in with one of the several people in the salon (they were so nice!) the man says can you come back and gives me a list of open times. Sure I can... so I take a 2 o'clock with Amy... as I leave I remember this salon had a 1 star review ... let me look... oh no it's with Amy!!!! I start sweating a bit but hey, I'm committed at this point! So I arrive at 1:50 and Amy comes to get me soon after! Now Amy seems happy and gets me in the chair and we discuss my hair plans (bonus points) she listened and cut my haircut perfectly. Amy also has curly hair and she understood my want to wear it straight sometimes too. She was kind and had a great vibe! I advised her of the bad review and we talked about it and let me tell you I'm glad I took the chance and met her!!! There is nothing fancy here, but both Janet and Luz work very hard to make sure all of the clients are satisfied. Apart from not being fancy, the prices are very fair, and you will get that salon look for a great price. This is so much better than a super duper cuts or similar, here you get personal attention, and a friendly smile. Connie suggested balayage highlights which I agreed to. She color, washed then razor cut my hair. I was pretty surprised when she started to curl my hair prior to the hair check. Hairstylists usually show me the results after they blow dry my hair to make sure the length was ok and even. I didn't really think anything of it once she was done styling my hair. I left pretty happy thinking all was well. It wasn't until I washed my hair and dried it straight when I realized my haircut and color wasn't as good as it could have been. The front was uneven - one side was longer than the other and the color was splotchy. I had bright spots in random places and the color transition was lacking. The cut and color set me back $130. I messaged Connie the following day about my hair and she offered to fix it. Unfortunately my daughter wasn't feeling well the day of the follow up so I couldn't come back to give her another chance. I ended up tagging along with my sister to another salon to get my hair redone.

This review is long overdue. Today I've decided to share my experience here at Locstar with…read morePaulette. I came here 5 years ago to start my locs. We started on the wrong foot, and ended on a despicable note. Paulette took a look at my 3c curly hair and insisted that it could not loc up with the coils I wanted. The other loctitian in the room objected to what she said, but Paulette shushed her. I felt this was wrong because armed with knowledge about safe washing, I felt my hair would remain in coils and lock up. I showed her a photo of my thick curly hair grown mid back. She proceeded to sell me on the idea that the only way my hair would lock was with her $400-$500 loc extensions that I stayed for 8 hours to put in. She wanted me to drive out for regular retwists for upkeep. At the end of this service she asked about my ethnicity. When I told her I was Jamaican and black she seemed shocked, and I wondered if her assumption that I was mixed perpetuated her incorrect assumption that my hair wouldn't lock. I lived about an hour away at this time, and could mostly only make it during rush hour, which meant I could not drive for regular retwists. This she knew ahead of time. It was also not not my desire to. I've cared for my own hair since age 8. At the time of this experience I was 24. I know my hair. I retwisted my hair myself between appointments. The extensions were quick to slip during the day even though I left them untouched except when twisting my roots. I came back a few times to fix the slipped locs. When I came back for a retwist, I asked her to keep retwisting my hair in the direction I previously had begun. You would've thought I said I hurt somebody. In the middle of a busy salon room, she stopped, and proceeded to literally loudly berate me in front of customers (she was .incredibly. rude) about doing my own hair. I was shocked at her behavior. The person next to me getting her hair done even looked at Paulette and said something about Paulette having to "teach me right." Excuse me? When I got home I proceeded to remove every extension she put into my hair. And I started over-- my way. Here are photos of the 5 year locs that couldn't establish without her $400-$500 extensions. 5 years in, they are almost touching my butt. I haven't lost a single one. If Paulette treats her customers anywhere near how she did in the past, I hope this review highlights a necessary area of where retraining is needed. You don't treat people like that, and you don't know the hair and head of somebody you met 3 times better than they do. They've had their hair their whole life.
