A friend of mine used Kim for her wedding photos (which turned out beautifully ) and she suggested I call Kim to see if she handle family photography... so I did. She was SUPER nice, and willing to accommodate our needs. We decided to go ahead and book her, and to do the photos at her studio on Camano Island. When we arrived I was pleasantly surprised by how pretty the setting was. Kim was incredibly nice (she even charmed my cranky uncle). She handled all of us like a pro! He was quickly responsive through the hiring process, answering questions, and since we were from out of state (having a "destination wedding" in Eureka Springs), was very willing to work around our tight schedule to help get in the "engagement" photos in addition to wedding photos he has as a part of his wedding package. (We're very glad we went through with the engagement photos rather than seeking to reduce the price of the wedding photos so they weren't included.) Mike's a quirky, quiet, artistic type of guy, which I liked about him. He's the type of guy that makes me seem to be an extrovert, even though I'm not. But it's not hard to get him out of his shell: he enjoys his work and wants you to like his photos, so it was very fun to talk about photography and what we like about various things. (We also bonded over local brewery beer, even though he's not as much as a beer snob as we are.) He has a real eye for catching the light and specific shots. I let him know some of the shots I knew my family would have to have, but when possible, I tried to let him make the decisions, because I could tell that my interference would endanger the photos I would get. I was right and I loved our photos. I did have to remind him to follow up, and get us the final product, because I think he's the artsy-forgetful type. But I really enjoyed working with him and loved what I received, which I think was worth far, far more than what we paid for.

We hired Betsy for the Customized Ceremony Package to act as officiant for our wedding in Sept…read more2019. I would rate Betsy a 1 out of 5 stars. She hardly communicated with us before our wedding, and her communications were not prompt. After we signed the contract with her in April, she sent us the ceremony samples (71 documents in total), and we heard from her only once more before our wedding day. In June, we sent her a draft of the text we chose for our ceremony, asking for feedback, but she did not reply, even to confirm that she received it. We followed up in August to confirm the order of the ceremony on our programs before they went to print. Her reply came, but it was three days after the programs went to print. The actual ceremony, thankfully, went okay. By then, we had handed off communications with Betsy to our day-of-coordinator. Betsy showed up on time, got briefed on ceremony logistics by our coordinator, performed our ceremony reading the draft we had sent her, and witnessed the signing of our marriage license. We opted to file the license ourselves since we could receive copies of the license immediately from the county office, and frankly by this time she hadn't earned our trust that she would file the license in a timely fashion. My wife and I were DIYing our wedding, and those who are planning their own weddings know how extremely stressful the process can be. We had hired Betsy because the services listed on the We Do I Dos website indicated that we would receive assistance and guidance with our ceremony, but we didn't. The services listed on the website that we didn't receive are: -- We can have one additional planning session several weeks before your celebration to finalize your ceremony. (We would have welcomed a discussion about our ceremony plans, but we didn't even get a reply about our draft.) -- We can provide assistance with creating personalized and heartfelt wedding vows. (We didn't receive assistance with the vows, except for receiving the ceremony samples. Much of the text included in these documents was repeated, so it's not like every document was unique.) -- We can guide you in choreographing the processional and with the placement of your attendants. (Nope. No help here. Fortunately we were able to get this done with the help of our day-of-coordinator.) -- You will receive a final draft of your ceremony approx.1 week prior to your wedding for your final approval. (Nope. No final draft received; no confirmation of our draft was made.) In summary, Betsy did perform the essential duties to get us married, but we came away with the feeling that it was just the bare minimum of effort.

Ms. Coppenrath went out of her way, performing a service that she normally doesn't provide, to help a desperate bride secure the wedding site of her dreams. I offered to pay her for her time and energy, but she declined. I am so appreciative of her willingness to assist, her generosity of spirit, and the timeliness of her actions.
