I rented a Toro Dingo recently, used it three hours to grade dirt then moved four rocks, all under 300 lbs., well under the max lifting capacity of the Dingo and it started leaking hydraulic fluid all over my driveway and yard. I was told I may be responsible for the repairs, when they picked it up and that they would let me know. They let me know only by charging my credit card an additional $450. When I questioned them about it, one of the teenagers working there showed me a large piece of plastic that had been jammed into the undercarriage by a previous rental. It looked to be a piece of above ground swimming pool that was probably crushed into a dumpster with the machine. I work in commercial construction and use this type of equipment all of the time, there is no way anything I did would have caused this failure. The particular model of Dingo they rent is known on equipment forums for leaking, something I found out after the rental. My wife and I will no longer shop there in the future. We probably made purchases on average once or twice a week the last 25 years. No more. We will drive to KC, Liberty, Gladstone or St. Joe from now on, no matter what and support competing businesses. The $450 I was charged for repairs is going to buy a lot of great marketing. My wife is a local business owner since 2000 and I work around Smithville and the entire KC metro area. We will be sharing our experience with anyone local and beyond. Over the last six or seven years, we have made a point to shop there since the local alderman approved a TIF, granting a significant tax advantage to another competitive hardware store. Prior to the passage of the TIF, we opposed its approval because all local businesses should be subject to the same rules and the aldermen want to play favorites. If you need to rent equipment, go through United, Sunbelt or Home Depot, better service and they won't make you pay for previous abuse or damage.

I went to the Bonner Springs Grass Pad location and the girl working the register I asked why no one could answer the phone when apparantly there were 3 workers including her not doing anything but standing at the register. Her smart ass reply was we are short handed, well it didn't look that way to me when no one (3 employees) was doing anything but standing at the register. The other issue is that the girl was really a smart ass won't be back cause I asked why I couldn't use my discount for being a veteran and her reply is that there was already a discount for a 50lb bag of Heat Wave. You also have raised the prices since I bought grass seed there and in the last 2 years I looked and her smart ass said they hadn't not true at all. Due to her smart ass remarks I won't be back, I was in a time crunch for my landscaper to lay seed so I bought it but I won't be back anymore I will go to somewhere else for my grass seed from now on. What starts as a quick trip for a few items somehow turns into a cart full of both "needs" and "well... why not?" I'm convinced part of the problem is the environment. On a Saturday afternoon, it's packed. Between the crowds and the sample stations every few aisles, it almost feels designed to slow you down and tempt you into buying more. So this past Thursday, I tried a different approach. I showed up at 8:00 pm, about 30 minutes before closing. Game changer. It wasn't empty, but compared to a weekend crowd, it felt wide open. No sample stations, no congestion, no navigating carts in every direction. I walked in with a list of five items and was in the checkout line within five minutes. Only two staffed lanes were open, plus self-checkout, but with just one person ahead of me, I stuck with a cashier and was out quickly. And for once, I actually bought only what I came for. If you're trying to avoid the Costco "cart creep," give the late evening run a shot.

We looked through the windows and there was no signage on the door about hours. My husband tried the door again and then we went into a store next to it. We asked about the antique store and they said oh no that's closed permanently and they just use it for storage. It would be nice if they put a sign on the door stating that and the yelp needs to be update, updated to closed permanently. So don't make the same mistake and drive down there and waste your time! Last time I was there we got a 25 lb kettlebell for $20, some named brand face cream that was $4, and my husband got some Monster headphones he was really excited about for $40. Unfortunately when we got back to our family's house only one headphone worked. We took it back and I was pleasantly surprised that the return process was seamless. We will continue to go back when we are in town and see what deals we can find.
