I love this place! It is much smaller than the big box competitors but I never have trouble finding the things I need and it is less confusing. The equipment rentals are very reasonably priced. The staff is always helpful. Recommend s you shop this locally owned store before going to KC to a chain store. read more

I called on a Sunday to reserve a UHaul for the following Friday. I was told to call back Monday or Tuesday to make the reservation because the UHaul I requested was currently rented out and I could not make a reservation until it was returned. I asked if the employee could request another UHaul from another location to be in Platte City on Friday and I was told he could not. I asked if my name could be saved and they could call me when the UHaul was returned and he said he could not but he would take my name and put it on a "sticky note" at the UHaul desk. I called Tuesday and the UHaul had been reserved for the days I initially requested but the second employee told me that the first employee should have been able reservation for me from he beginning but since he did not there was nothing he could do. He said he would try to get another UHaul from another city in and I should call back Thursday if I didn't hear from him prior. Conveniently when I called back on Thursday the second employee was not working that day and I spoke to the first employee who told me he did not see any record of the second employee trying to obtain another UHaul from a different location and the only think I could do was call back to see if it was not picked up by the need of the day. I called as requested and I was told it had been picked up already and I should probably just pick one up from Tiffany Springs. I'm disappointed in the lack of customer service and communication. read more

Jeff and this hardware store has always been top notch. Have used them for years, from rentals to daily needs they excel at getting you what you need. I use Jeff's whenever I need something for the house. It's a nice place to have in Platte City and always go there first for any of my needs. read more

I bought a chainsaw here about a year ago and was having problems with it so I took it back to get repaired sInce I had a warranty through Jeff's. They told me I just needed the carburetor adjusted. Went back to pick it up and they charged me almost 200 dollars for new parts they put on without letting me know before hand what they were doing to my saw and said it wasn't covered in the warranty. I will never shop here again. read more

I used to shop at this little hardware store quite frequently. It was always a little pricier than the big box stores , but I like to help the small businesses out when I can. It was just a friendly hardwood store. Now it's under new ownership. Jeff (a long time employee) purchased the business. While his staff is still nice and friendly, he is a complete jerk. He tries to make the customers feel stupid. I have given this store many chances, but it gets worse every time. The store now has mostly high school age people working the evenings. They are friendly, but have no clue what they are doing. The radio is way too loud and unprofessional. I can't continue to pay higher prices to an owner like Jeff. I now go to Running Horse Ranch and Home or the big box stores. read more

I used to shop at this store frequently. The staff seemed nice and although the store wasn't especially large, it had most of the things I needed for small home repairs. However, a few interactions with Jeff, the owner, totally turned me away from this location. Jeff was extremely condescending and, quite frankly, a jerk. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!! I try to shop local, but BILL has made sure that I NEVER shop in another ACE TRUE VALUE STORE. I have spent a lot of money in this store, rarely getting good customer service, especially when he is there. Tonight I went to buy some spray paint, and he acted annoyed that I needed help, eating while I tried to ask him a question. While I was talking to him, he walked off. When I went up to the cashier, I asked her if he was the owner. She said no, and I told her how RUDE he was, and she said she HEARS THAT A LOT! He approached us as we were talking & seemed irritated. I told him I didn't appreciate him always acting annoyed & short with me when I come in...he responded with " WHATEVER!" I told him that isn't how you treat customers! He told me I needed to leave (VERY STERNLY) & proceeded to show me the door. After I walked out, I decided I wanted his name, so I walked back in & he REFUSED to tell me his name. So I got closer to look at his name tag & that TOTALLY PISSED HIM OFF! He got AGGRESSIVE with me, RAISED HIS VOICE & told me I better leave, basically kicking me out of the store!! All because I expected good customer service, & wanted to complain when I felt I was being treated poorly! This "BILL" person obviously has issues & should NOT be working in customer service!! SHAME ON ACE HARDWARE for allowing your customers to be treated like this!!!!!! read more
