I have been working with Dr. Pua for over 5 years. I have lost 70lbs and am comfortably within a healthy range for my height. The thing about weight loss, is that there is no quick fix. It's a journey and you have to cooperate. This is a long term lifestyle change and you must be ready. Like any medical professional, they have to work within insurance parameters so following the path is sometimes frustrating. Dr. Pua has always listens. He does blood work that no one else does and addresses the source of the issues causing weight gain. And yes, he does not accept excuses on why you can't cooperate. His staff is great and there is never any judgement. If you are willing to commit, cooperate and communicate, Dr. Pua can save your life like he helped me saved mine. read more

Dr. Pua largely relies on youtube videos to "help" his patients. I was initially given a diet to follow BEFORE my bloodwork came in. At my follow up, I was demeaned for asking questions. If you are perimenopausal, please know he thinks the weight gain and hormone issues are just excuses women use. In my opinion, he is not wanting to do more to help patients outside of his typical weight loss plan. His staff was very friendly and kind, though. Dr. Pua is outstanding, knowledgeable and great with patient care. I've been seeing him for over 5 years. It's disappointing to see some of these reviews where patients are upset with their insurance, the nurses turning around refills, Duly structure etc. That is not Dr. Pua directly. The reason he provides articles to reference is that he wants you to do some research and not just rely on medication. That is exactly what we want in a weight loss doctor. Not someone that just pushes medication. Someone that teaches and informs us. Not someone who says, "just trust me". I had seen weight loss docs for 20 years and this is where Dr. Pua is different and where things changed for me. I've lost 95lbs and kept it off for 3+ years. It's a process. Not a quick fix. It's about figuring out a plan that works for you as an individual, managing expectations and following a process. It takes time. I am completely shocked to see the negative reviews for Dr. Pua because quite frankly he is the best doctor I have ever seen. I have type two diabetes and my sugars have been riding high for months, well into the 200s like every day. I was told about DULY And that they specialize in obesity management with medication. I did not like the idea of taking even more meds and I'm already on But I had to do something because I was not heading in the right direction. It took several months to get an appointment with Dr. Pua. He was well worth the wait. To my delight he didn't prescribe me new medications. He explained that my problem is my diet. I've read many things about type two diabetes management and diet but it was never explain to me the way he did and some things he told me surprised me. He also didn't give me an annoying menu of meals I'm supposed to adhere to every day. Instead he gave me a very clear framework and lists of foods that I should be eating, a list of foods that I should never be eating and a list of food that are OK sparingly. He told me that in ten days my diabetes would be effectively reversed. Of course I was skeptical because I've seen many doctors over the years who load me up on new medication and things only seem to get worse. Dr. Pua also gave me a continuous glucose monitor. My sugars went from over 250 on the first day to 81 on the 10th day. And I lost 15 pounds. My sugars have never been that low in all the time I've been recording, which is many years. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Pua and am astounded at some of the reviews I read about him on here. And the saddest part is, had I read these reviews first, I probably would not have gone to see him. And that is a fucking shame. read more

Dr. Pua is an extremely knowledgeable doctor however falls short in regards to effectively communicating with his patients. Was seen in January 2023 for a follow up appointment and after a short period of time, he abruptly said in the middle of a question that I was asking him, "Your time is up, I have to go! In which he proceeded to leave the room. I was floored at the lack of candor and rudeness he displayed. After speaking with the nurse and sharing my experience and how I felt. He returned and said "I think you need to find yourself another doctor". Needless to say I did and also reported him to Duly in addition to my insurance provider. No one should be made to feel unimportant as a patient and that your health questions/concerns don't matter. read more

This doctor seems very nice and knowledgeable when you first meet him. I went there for weight management and was considering bariatric surgery as an option. He told me that I should try medications and diet first. With a change in my insurance company, I could no longer get my prescribed medication. I was sent a letter saying that I could have a peer to peer call to appeal. I went to my office visit and brought in the letter. His demeanor completely changed and I have never been so disrespected. He flat out said no and that he has the right to refuse. I was shocked I work in a doctors office and that is a common practice. So I explained that I was surprised by his response. He continued to tell me that this is time that he could be seeing patients and that a phone call could last and hour to an hour and a half, and it isn't in his "wheelhouse", and if I understood. I indicated that I understood but did not understand how that isn't in his "wheelhouse" to explain to another physician your treatment recommendations. Then he pulled up his google search with a recommendation for treatment based on BMI scores. He said it is recommended that I have bariatric surgery. He also pulled up another google search that indicated that if I continued with the medication that I would only loose 15% of my body fat and that if I did that I would still need bariatric surgery. I told him if that was the case why did you tell me to start medications in the first place? He said are you arguing with me? Then pulled up my chart to show me one sentence from our first office visit that said bariatric surgery options discussed. I told him that I agreed we did discuss surgery because that is what I initially went in there for and that this is very much a different conversation then our initial office visit when you didn't recommend that course of treatment. He then proceeded to ask me if I would like to have him write me another prescription, and said, "no one told you, you couldn't pay out of pocket for it and shop around". I told him that I didn't have the financial means to do so. So, he then said well what do you want me to do, I have written you prescriptions and your insurance company won't cover them? I told him it feels like you don't want to be my physician. I have never been so disrespected for asking one question. I don't know why you are getting so upset because I asked you a question about making a phone call and was trying to seek clarification. He said I am sorry you feel that way, what would you like to do. I said you are the physician aren't you supposed to tell me what my options are. He then said I could have surgery, or he could write me a prescription. As I am there crying in tears, he says to me what do you want to do. I said I don't want to continue with you being my physician. He then looks at me and smirks and says I will get your paperwork ready for you. I told him I hope that tonight you think about the unethical and moral treatment you provided me. As he was walking out, he said, "I will sleep just fine". Once he realized he could no longer make money off of me, he no longer wanted to be my physician, he didn't want to make the phone call because is recommendations where purely for his financial gain and not what is best for my health. This is clearly a case of deceptive medical practices. read more

Wish I could provide zero stars, place is just awful. Which is really surprising because I love DuPage Medical Group. They do not respond to pharmacist for prescriptions refills which they subscribed. Will not respond to calls, voicemail or MyChart. After two weeks of phone calls finally got someone on the phone and was told the doctor didn't subscribe that prescription. I was shocked because they medicine worked really well with weight loss and my blood sugar, pretty much saving my life. When I told them that is ridiculous and they should be ashamed of themself for not wanting to help a patient add years to their life through their program. When I said that to them they banned me from the office and told me to take my business elsewhere. read more

My husband is going to this doctor and Dr. Pua is very hard to get into (long wait time for 1st appointment) but so worth it. He is very knowledgeable and for the 1st time in more years than we can count, he has helped my husband and I lose more than 10 lbs each in the 1st 30 days. He helps you understand metabolism and how the body works and help customize a Keto type diet with email support between visits. We have found him to be extremely helpful. read more

"Dr" Pua is an incredible waste of time. His idea of treatment for weight management is to print out a fancy Google search. It takes 6 weeks to get and 6 weeks between visits. During each visit he only provided simple print out of foods to eat and foods to avoid, literally the same as a google search. After 5 months I asked "what is the actual plan here? Are we going to even start ANY weight loss?" He asked how the info he provided was working. When I told him it wasn't and if it had, I would not be here. He could only say "Sorry you feel that way". He is a do nothing joke. AVOID HIM. My read on him is he is just in it to collect Dr visit fees from insurance companies or patients. read more

What a terrible staff. Had prescription there to be picked up. I came in with identification and they said there was nothing in the computer. After arguing with me about them not knowing what they are talking about, they find an envelope with my name on it. Then they go Oh here it is. Not very intelligent and rude. read more

This doctor is the best! He's very caring and has a great memory of your health. His office staff and nurses are always very professional!

Going to him for 4 yrs., very good staff and Doctor. Do not see any thing like the Tracy N. comments and highly recommend Dr. Pua.
