There's absolutely NOT enough wonderful things I can say about this office. Being in the Dental…read morecare field, you really know what to look out for. My daughter, 5 years old, needed some work done because her baby tooth in front never formed correctly causing it to be decayed and infected. For months, we could not find a good doctor in our network. We must have overlooked Forest the first time. Anyway, after the stress of finding a decent provider, we found these guys. They have been nothing but AMAZING! My husband took my daughter to the initial meet and greet consultation. He was blown away by how friendly, quick, and thorough they were. The next day, I got in touch with Denise B, the coordinator, because my daughter needed to be done in the hospital due to her anxiety. Denise wasted NO TIME and submitted the hospital authorization. We were being a little difficult, schedule-wise, since it is hard for my husband and I to take off. They accommodated every change, from start to end. Dr. Anoki was so pleasant to work with. She took excellent care of my daughter! After the surgery, I took my daughter for her follow up appointment, and they got us in and out! I brought donuts because we were so thankful for them and the genuine care the provided. Everyone thanked me, and I didn't meet half of them. Just goes to show how friendly and welcoming they are. I will definitely be taking my daughters there for their routine cleanings! My daughter loved her and the entire staff, and so did we! Hands down the best pediatric office in Lake County!!

So someone recommended Dr Pree of Pediatric and family dental on 83 in Grayslake. It's the new…read moreoffice they built where Pat' Pizza used to be. We just got back from an appointment with them and I thought I'd report back. Not a great experience. Dr Pree was nice and the blond hygienist was kind but 2 things were very wrong. First was the policy they have of not letting parents back with their kids. I was told it was just during X-rays. But they did one of my son's cleanings without coming to get me. It was only when it was taking a loooooong time that I went back. The receptionist used her body to try to block me but I went right passed not taking no for an answer. You may think this sounds unreasonable but my sons(twins) were premature which means their baby teeth have needed some work. They are very nervous about going to the dentist because of that so they want me to be with them. And I promised them I would be. I didn't know when I made appointments that the policy was to not let parents do that, even I was told, if kids have medical anxiety from being going to many hospital, Doctor and dental visits, like mine. (One of my boys was tested for almost 3 years for a brain tumor.) Really bad policy. When I went back I was told I wasn't allowed to be back there. ("not enough room" -there was the standard amount.) I stayed. I was talking to another mom in the waiting room. Just chit chat about the book she was reading. She then began to share that her daughter had some bad experiences with All kids (Medicaid) dentists in the past and she wanted to be with her daughter too. Her daughter was there to get a filling. They told her she couldn't go back and by the time her daughter came out the mom was in tears with worry. I've heard stories about people who have AllKids, which we used to have but don't anymore, not being able to go back and kids screaming and having bruised gums after, not using sufficient anesthesia for wisdom teeth removal etc. (I'm guessing the insurance will only pay for certain kinds.) but I didn't know this was their policy and they didn't volunteer the information when I made appointments for our entire family. On my way out I verified that this was indeed their policy for any kind of work they do other than cleanings and cancelled the appointments I'd made for my husband and myself for later in the month. The second problem was that one of the nurses was very rude. She gave me attitude from the second I put my foot down. (The other nurse and the Doctor herself did not. They understood where I was coming from and that I promised my kids.) I found out after that she rolled her eyes at both of my boys when they were getting X-rays and when my son accidentally bit her finger slightly because she wanted him to bite down with her fingers holding the slides in his mouth. He's such a sweetheart and felt really bad. My other son said she murmured "oh my god" under her breath and rolled her eyes when one of the slides cut his gum and he pulled back. Life is too short to deal with these kinds of people. Not going back. Again to be fair the blonde hygienist and Dr Pree tried really hard to make the boys feel safe and calm. They were kind and patient. Also the receptionist who tried to block me was also kind and just doing her job. At the end when we were on our way out she told me she understood and I could see she disagreed with the policy herself.

The front office staff and X-ray technicians have consistently been friendly and professional. Unfortunately, our experience during my daughter's procedure today was completely different. She was scheduled to have an abscessed tooth extracted and two cavities treated using nitrous oxide. As you can imagine, she was nervous. She does much better when procedures are explained to her, so she asked a simple question about the nitrous. The response she received was essentially, "It doesn't matter. You don't need to worry about it." That immediately made both of us feel dismissed. As a parent, I was never told what to expect. No one explained how long the nitrous would take to work, what the process would be, or what was happening throughout the appointment. My daughter became increasingly upset and cried while they attempted to numb her with injections. Again, there was no reassurance or explanation directed to either of us. What surprised me even more was that the dentist administered the numbing injections and then left the room to see another patient without saying a word. There was no, "I'll be back in a few minutes while the anesthetic takes effect," or any explanation at all. We were simply left sitting there wondering what was happening. To add to the confusion, another staff member came into the room asking if we were there for a cavity and said I needed to sign paperwork that I had already completed at the front desk. It honestly felt like no one even knew why we were there or what procedure was being performed. At that point, I realized this was not the right environment for my daughter. I told them we would be seeking treatment elsewhere. My daughter had already received nitrous oxide and numbing injections, yet instead of addressing our concerns, the interaction became even more uncomfortable. Communication was difficult, and I left feeling that our questions and concerns were viewed as an inconvenience rather than something that deserved a thoughtful response. What disappointed me most was the complete lack of compassion. This was a child undergoing a fairly invasive dental procedure. Bedside manner matters. Taking a few moments to explain what is happening, reassure a frightened child, and communicate with the parent can make all the difference. To end the appointment, we were simply sent on our way. No one explained how long the nitrous or numbing would last, when my daughter could safely eat or drink, or what to expect afterward. After everything that had happened, we left feeling confused, dismissed, and upset. I understand that not every child cooperates perfectly during dental procedures, especially when they're frightened. That's exactly why patience, communication, and empathy are so important. Sadly, those were the things most lacking during our visit. While we had ok experiences for routine cleanings, I cannot recommend this office for pediatric dental procedures that require extra care, communication, and compassion.
