My favorite dentist in Portland. Dr Egger and Dr Sepula are great (father/daughter practice). Conservative treatments, don't drill every spot on the exray. Great for emergencies (when my filling fell out). My 3 year old daughter got a molar 'filled?' so food didn't get stuck in there. They are kid friendly and wonderful. I have been going to Dr. Egger for the past 6 years and have been really happy with him. It's never easy finding a new doctor or dentist when you move to a new town and don't know that any people, but I was extremely lucky to have found Dr. Eggers. I seem to have different dental hygienist each time I visit every six months, and only one was bad (and I told the receptionist that I would not see her again), but that doesn't really bother me, as long as they do a good job. And Linda, the receptionist, is incredibly nice and accommodating. The one thing that I'm not crazy about is the decor (really needs some updating), but other than that, this place is great. I was extremely impressed with this dentist. Being new to the area, I was a little nervous about finding a dentist as great as the one I had back in Texas. But these guys were very professional, friendly and informative about my dental care and insurance. If you're like me, you might struggle to understand dentists/doctors with accents or limited English. For some reason, my comprehension of anyone speaking with an accent is very limited when they have dental instruments in my mouth. That's not the case with these guys. The hygienist and I had a normal conversation (with my limited English) while she cleaned my teeth. I'm going back to these guys. And I will recommend them to all of my friends. read more

If you are looking for an honest, and affordable no-frills dentist, Dr. Egger is your man. If you can get by the appearance of the office, which is from an era at least 3 decades ago, you'll find a warm and friendly staff, including attentive receptionists, and friendly and capable hygienists. I've been coming here for over two years, and when I first came in I came from a dentist who gave me a multiple-cavity diagnosis. When Jeffrey gave me an exam, he only found one small cavity. So not only did he save me money, he prevented me from undergoing any unnecessary dental work. Can't really ask for more than that. Can ya! read more

I've been going here for years. I really like Dr. Egger. He's easygoing and honest, which if you know dentists, that last quality can be hard to come by. Receptionist Linda and the other older lady are just dears. I've also been really happy with the hygienists I've had. They're knowledgable and take their time. I've actually wanted to take exception to another review wishing the place was updated. Call me old-fashioned, but can I say I love the decor as it is? The old spit bowls still on the chairs, the film x-rays, paper charts, Dr. Suess books in the lobby, and photos of the dentist's children with 80s hairstyles on the walls. Going to the dentist there reminds me of the simpler days of my youth, where things were slowed down a bit, and when medical institutions weren't primarily concerned with quickly and impersonally cycling through patients to extract top dollar. I hate modern assembly line dentistry, with rows of chairs in a big room and the actual dentist barely stopping in to check as silent strangers work on your mouth. Here I feel like I matter a little more, and the decor somehow is part of that cozy feeling. But alas, all halcyon days must come to an end, and they are moving to new and modern digs in December. Onward and Upward. You got your wish yelp lady. I just hope the nice experience I have there stays more or less the same. read more

Ive been coming here for four years and have thought they were just great. That is until I had to cancel an appointment on the same day due to an emergency. I tried to reschedule with the receptionist, but she was, well, pretty pissy about the whole thing. She couldn't find a time for a new appointment and acted like it was a massive inconvenience to find one that worked with my schedule. Finally, I just told her to cancel and not reschedule. I was told I would have to pay a missed appointment fee when I first called. I was generally ok with that; I understand but then a $75 bill arrived. That's excessive and is the reason, coupled with my experience on the phone, that I won't go back here. read more

All manner of horrible things were happening to my mouth when I went to see Jeffrey Egger. He gave me a filling and a crown. The crown never fit right, and I went in four different times to see him when it popped off. The last time I went in he ordered a new one for me (free of charge) and replaced the crown. Fast forward to present day, where I just had to have the crown removed and the decay that accumulated underneath the crown hosed out. Since the second crown was also (unbeknownst to me) improperly fitted, decay built up underneath, and on the tooth next to it. The filling? Last year I had that tooth removed, because the filling cracked and the tooth was rotted, and the choice was pull or a root canal. So this office earns a 0/2 for procedures. The two stars are because this office accepts payment plans (which I needed during my broke days), and was good about urgent appointments. I won't be back. read more

The assistants are always ready for you when your appointment time arrives, they are very caring and informative. From my first visit, I could tell that they are very experienced and knowledgeable. Called in with a large chip off my front tooth. This is the third dentist to fix it. He did it faster and less expensively. He also did an artistic job match tooth color and texture. A friend initially sent me to Dr. Egger, after assuring me that there was no better dentist in Portland. Dr. Egger may well be the best dentist in the city-- but I agree with Fawn that he has some serious staffing problems. I really don't want to give a play by play, but the staff ranged from difficult to work with to extremely rude. After over a decade doing technical support and related work, I am no believer in the customer always being right, and certainly don't expect to be coddled. I would rather have someone that's technically skilled than someone with a good bedside manner. However, there are things you just DON'T say to a customer, and a point which you start to wonder if the hygienist is going to be extra un-careful because she's made it clear that she's pretty put off by having you in the chair in the first place. Everything about my most recent appointment (except for the time with Dr. Egger himself) was at BEST unnecessarily difficult. The scheduling issues alone make getting into see the dentist difficult; the current staff turn it into an ordeal. If you have to take time off work to see the dentist, just don't-- the staff members may not start your appointment on time (mine was 30 minutes late) but they will certainly end it on time, regardless of whether or not they've even started what you booked the appointment to do. After having to wait weeks to get a cleaning appointment, I was told that there just wasn't time to fit me in after all, and I needed to re-book for over a month out. Unless the staff severely misinformed me (which is entirely possible) the primary reason that there wasn't enough time was because they started late in the first place and were unwilling to work late. Perhaps things are different in dentistry, but in every customer service related job I've had, if the delay is on your end that's something you stay late to remedy, not penalize the customer for. When I explained that I couldn't get the time off work to reschedule, I was told-- in essence-- that it was a personal problem and rescheduling was not optional. I also generally expect any negative personal commentary from a dental hygienist to be related to my teeth. The staff might consider refraining from proactive (misinformed) commentary outside of their area of professional expertise. It's kind of like how if someone calls me on a tech support line, I don't feel the need to tell them that there are vocal coaches that can get rid of that obnoxious twang in their voice. I also wish that I could say the issues were limited to one staff member, or even one day. However, the first receptionist I dealt with was certainly served as a warning of what was to come once I actually got through the door. Subsequent-- and unfortunately necessary-- phone calls have confirmed that it wasn't one bad day, but the way the office currently functions. I should add that this was not my experience on previous appointments, in years where different people were working both behind the desk and as hygienists. The previous staff were polite, efficient, and gave me no reason to doubt their technical competence. Dr. Egger is, as always, fantastic. I hope to see him again if the other staff change. Until then, I'm going to have to find someone else. read more

Always so nice. Great hygenists- all of them! Dr. Eggers does a very thorough job and detailed exam. All of the work done here lasts and is so amazing. I have been seeing this dentist on and off for several years, and he is always more detailed in his exams, education and cleaning than any of the other dentists I've ever visited. read more

If you want an honest, conservative dentist, Dr. J. Egger is the only one I know that I can trust. I visit my sister in OR at times, and because of my own very dissatisfied treatment by my local dentists (I'm in my 3rd new dental office), I wait until I can see Dr. Egger. i give him the list of what my dentist is suggesting I need to have done, and every time, Dr. Egger tells me in his opinion, it is NOT necessary. My local dentists do my cleaning which means they do not do a complete job as would a dental hygienist. My experience has been that the dentists who do the cleaning, do not scale or measure the teeth. They only use cavitron and polish. That means that your teeth can develop problems as they're not really getting the full cleaning necessary. I highly recommend Dr. Egger and I would rather pay him private patient fee and get honest treatment, than pay the local dentists who are covered under my insurance, but over-treat so you end up paying more. read more
