I got a good deal for first time customers, and I'm thinking she may have been pushing the deep clean to get a nice little commission. Maybe not, but hey, I'll just add the occasional use of Listerine on top of my impeccable dental hygiene habits. I didn't have early stage gingivitis or anything like that. This was just a "preventative measure". After that, the experience was pleasant and good. Very professional and thorough. The reason I am giving 5 stars is because of the follow up. They called to schedule a follow-up appointment. I informed them that I moved across the country. So they offered to send my my X-rays via email. And so they did! In my experience, doctors and dentists do not want to share x-rays for whatever reason. The fact that they cheerfully volunteered to do this made me happy and motivated to leave a 5 star review. I recommend Roots Dental. Be aware the hygienist may try to upsell you. Research gum therapy before you go so you can intelligently decide if it is right for you. I think this goes on at all dentist offices. I am jaded because I once got sold a $20 tube of "high-fluoride toothpaste" by a dental hygienist. Later I realized that I could have just bought some fluoride rinse at the store and I felt like a chump. I've been wary ever since.

Which, I'd been nervous about after I mistakenly went to a 'holistic' dentist for that, which cost so much, and took very long to redo. I had to go to a perio specialist, then to put my zirconia implant crown on, Dr Edwards did a whole procedure to do that perfectly. And I'm very grateful to him that I can now chew normally and not worry about it anymore. Being born without an adult tooth is no picnic, but luckily there are pros like Dr E to help us out with these things in life.

I decided to take a deep breath & try them anyway. I am SO glad I did. It all started before I even got there - Alyssa (front desk/receptionist) was so communicative about my insurance benefits & offered options to make it possible to get the services I needed. Upon arrival I was greeted by & got X-rays from such a sweet, hilarious & very knowledgeable tech named Hallie. They constantly asked about comfort & gave options for how to be cared for. I was extra nervous to meet Dr.Knight, based on previously mentioned reviews... to my delight he was awesome. He communicated clearly, was kind, told some pretty funny/dry Dad jokes that put me at ease. He was present & answered all of my questions. On to my cleaning with Erik - who's done this for 10 yrs & it showed through their patience, communication & tenderness during the whole experience. Jokes were told, consistent checking in with what I needed & just the right amount of silence truly made me sooooo glad I listened to my gut, to give this place a chance. She made sure I was comfortable, offering me headphones to listen to music and a lumbar pillow during the procedure. An awful experience, cannot recommend…read more I had zero pain prior to my appointment. I needed a filling and during the filling I expressed that I was having intense pain. The dentist kept giving anesthetic injections but I could still feel the pain of the drilling so it does not feel it was being done right. First time that has ever happened. Afterward, I was in excruciating pain for a week, went back in a 2nd time to have her check what was wrong. She said everything was fine despite my pain and sent me home. I continued to be in severe pain for MONTHS until I was able to finally get in with a different dental clinic. The new dentist was able to immediately diagnose the problem, it was that the first dentist at Woodstock Smiles did not finish the tooth properly and had left a gap open at the bottom of the tooth, where food was getting trapped and nerves were exposed and it had become infected. I required antibiotics. He cleaned it out and sealed the tooth properly, took barely 15 minutes, and the pain stopped. No more pain since. Then, Woodstock Smiles tried charging me $80 for the 2nd visit (which was only needed because she did the first one wrong) -- and since she did nothing to help me on the 2nd visit, I refused to pay. They started to send me to collections until I mentioned filing a malpractice lawsuit. Then they removed the charge. So it seems this dentist does not know what she is doing. She caused me MONTHS of agonizing pain and illness, gaslit me that everthing was fine, while I was in so much pain I could not even chew food, because she failed to do a simple filling correctly. And it only took a good dentist 3 minutes to see what she did wrong, and 15 minutes to fix it. So I cannot recommend anyone going here. Maybe just for a cleaning, but not any actual dental work. I would not trust it. Instead, I highly suggest Dr. Blair at Powell Dental as he was quickly able to see what Woodstock Smiles did wrong, and fixed it fast, with zero pain.

Even teeth cleaning is painful for my super sensitive gums and teeth. Jennifer is the best dental hygienist and I will not see anyone else. Ever. She knows my sensitivity and fears and does everything to make the process pain And stress free. She puts a numbing paste around gums of sensitive spots, let's me wear the heavy leaded vest during my cleaning which acts like a weighted blanket to calm me. Genius! Constantly checks in to see how I'm doing, if I need a break. She is so caring and expertly skilled that I choose the dentist office based on where she works. While I've gone to Portland Dental Works for 20 years, I've just started seeing Dr. Afshar who is very kind, straight forward, patient and provides very detailed and easy to understand treatment processes. To date, he has not performed any dental work, just exams. Unfortunately two of my crowns have to be replaced so appointments have been scheduled to start the process. I'll update my review once this has occurred. This office is closed on Fridays but I've never had any issues with getting call backs and have found the current and previous receptionist to be friendly, prompt in returning calls, and helpful when scheduling appointments. Once when I had to cancel appointment with less than 24 hours Notice due to an emergency they charged me $35. I understand the need for cancellation fees because it's a full hour where they could not bill for a service and could have had another client. When I explained the emergency, they removed the charge. During Covid-19; they are taking all precautions and I felt safe being in the office and having my teeth cleaned. And felt so good afterwards! I have them cleaned every 4 months and was scheduled in March so had to delay, and have never gone that long. They are covered by my individual Met Life insurance plan; I actually made sure they were in Network before purchasing the insurance.

(and a lawsuit against this guy, which I won). He tried to blame me! he is a master at gaslighting. See my review from 2019. Now - 6 years later, the one implant I did keep is failing. My dentist said it was placed too close to the edge of the bone, so there is zero bone left. I am not surprised. THIS GUY NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN. He clearly doesn't know what he is doing. Stay away!
