I do not mean to denigrate the Salem library, but the new books shelf at the Albany library is MUCH more interesting. I read voraciously, but Albany is sourcing titles which have completely escaped my attention--and that of big-name book lists. The same discrimination is being shown in the little store run by the Friends of the library. Their shelves used to be blah, but are now always worth a look.

The books are super awesome - you can find so many great ones, and they pull from other Oregon libraries so you really aren't limited to the books at this location. A fat thumbs up to this library and everything it has to offer. Also - don't forget the cultural pass you can reserve. It was a great way to take your children to local attractions without paying an entry fee. What a great educational opportunity!!!!

My favorite thing about this library though is the Friends of the library store to the right when you first walk in. You can donate books there and they sell them for very cheap as well. I just got two books on my wish list for $3 each and they appeared to be brand new! My mom said they used to have a cafe and she misses that part- but I wasn't here during that time.

She is just fantastic with all the children. We have only been about 5-6 times so far, but my daughter that is 1.5 years old just loves it! Motion Monday's are so cool! It's music and dancing! It gets pretty hot in that room so wear layers so you can peel off as it warms up. Story times seem like they always include a craft at the end, which my daughter is just barely old enough to start enjoying. This is such a great thing our community library puts on. I am so thankful for it. It's awesome to see the amount of kids and active parents that show up! Our little library is truly a gem. They also have a great children's section in the library. My daughter loves to go over there and play and read books. Another perk to the library is their free wifi and computers they have. It's just an all around neat place. The staff members were uniformly knowledgeable, patient and helpful. The building and furniture is comfortable and pleasant. A number of the work tables are near electrical outlets. That process has been consistently smooth and efficient. Everyone I've encountered here has been polite and clearly engaged in their job. I've had great conversations about books, reading recommendations, and even baking tips! The staff work hard to inspire people in the community to read and learn. Since COVID (and possibly before) the librarians regularly post videos geared towards child enrichment, with story times, crafts, baking, and science experiments all being offered. I think this is a cool, thoughtful service. They also put on library reading challenges, offering participants the chance to win cool prizes (for both adults and kids) from various community businesses. The building itself is a nice size. It has both a cozy and open feel with high ceilings. They offer a sizable amount of computers for public use, as well as places to read and/or study. It is always peacefully quiet in there when I stop in. I feel fortunate to have access to such a fine resource staffed with hard-working and passionate people. It is a gem!

There is a reception area when you come in, and restrooms not far from it. There are two levels. Each one is very user friendly. There are tables and chairs to sit, and stay a while. It gave me a place to feel like I can be comfortably outside of my home and connect with other parents/caretakers with their kids. There is a good selection of books in the kids section. They have a little play area with puppets/costume play, dollhouses, Lego and train sets, a kitchen, and an enclosed outdoor area to play. Overall, they have fun events year round for everyone of all ages. There is story time, hunts, book signings, and lectures you can attend. If you're a parent and it's your first time coming here, sign your kid up for the Dolly Parton book club. You get one free book a month up until they're 5 yrs old. It's specific to your kid's age.

Over the past five or so years, I've been a frequent…read morevisitor to three libraries: Tualatin (currently under renovation), West Linn (close to home) and Wilsonville (close to work). This library was renovated just a few years ago and has a very open floor plan and lots of room. While it doesn't have the excitement of a downtown library, it is a great resource and I've found the staff very helpful. They've helped me track down items from other branches and usually I am able to get the book, CD or movie earlier than anticipated. Nice web site to manage your account on-line. I also get a kick out of the arial photos showing how Wilsonville has grown during the last century and a gorgeous wood carved landscape hanging in the main vaulted area of the library. This branch has a large childrens' area and many programs (story time in English and Spanish) and events. Good amount of computers in both the regular and childrens' areas as well. Wilsonville was also home to Walt Morey (childrens' author/Gentle Ben), so there are a few items in memory of him. I get most of my movies here and they are usually in good condition (for some reason it seemed like the movies I borrowed from the Tualatin branch had so many scratches the movies were unwatchable). You can also borrow a cultural pass from any Oregon library that gets you in free to some of our most interesting attractions (Classical Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, Pittock Mansion and Portland Children's Museum to name a few). The things I wish were a little better were the weekend hours - they don't open until 2:00p on Sunday. I also think they have a pretty small selection of magazines.
