These guys and gals are wonderful and I'm very grateful for their service to us, the community…read more Station is a bit run-down, but that's to be expected when it's like 200 years old (exaggeration, but really, I'm convinced this building has seen living dinosaurs). Thankfully the new station will be finished by this time next year and it's in a better location because they have more space, it's new, AND I've heard it will be easier to park. The officers have always been polite, courteous, and helpful when I've called for help, and I really appreciate it. Funny story, the zipper on my wallet/clutch/purse thing once got stuck in the inside of my jeans back pocket, and this lovely lady officer spent a good 10 minutes with me trying to help me clip it our where the fabric was stuck so that she didn't ruin my jeans. It's silly, I know, but to me it shows the dedication and desire a lot of them have to help us out when we're just having a bad time!

Well this is my first review of a Police Station. This is not the kind of place that makes one…read morethink of happiness and joy. Normally a visit to such a building is the result of something very negative. The worst being that you are a victim of a crime and hopefully only a property crime. Or that you may be in the process of an arrest and that is never nice whether for a minor offense or for a felony. And then again you may be dropping off goodies for the guys and gals in Blue during Carnival Season. Unfortunately my visit was because I am a crime victim. A thief absconded with all the beautiful Mardi Gras decorations we placed on our home. I was dropping off the video of this low life heathen. The thief just happens to be female and up in age. And I must say that the response and follow up to the two incidents of theft were handled professionally and in a caring manner. Not a major crime and there is so much they have to be concerned about I was pleased with my three contacts with the members of the NOPD. And the visit to 4317 as the Station is called brought back memories from a time I was younger, slimmer, hairier, and a proud member of the NOPD. Probably a time where many YELP participants were not even born. The building is renovated and there are no longer stables in the back. The cells have been converted and so much is different. Time marches on. The odd thing about the Second District Station today, if you don't know, is that it is now located in the newly formed Sixth District.

Or in our neighborhood. The poor guys left after being attacked. I cautiously investigate. It's a huge pitbull that chases me into my apartment. I call 911. Dog savages some of the feral cats that we feed here. I tried to save them and the dog attacks again. I call 911 a second time. And I yelled at the dog to leave from my window and it lunges at the window snarling. I called 911 for the 3rd time. Around an hour and a half now.. Savage dog attacks 3 persons and kills several cats. No response. But later on a lovely woman who feeds the feral cats was angry that the dog killed the cats yelled at the neighbor who apparently owned the pitbull who attacked 3 people and killed at least 2 cats and the cops were here in 20 minutes? I called 911 three times, in 2 hours. " Dog attacking people". Not an issue apparently. But when a distraught woman yells at a man who let his dog, a pitbull, run wild NOPD are here in less than 30?

The city does employ several mobile speed enforcement cameras throughout the city. Gretna hosts the Gretna Heritage Festival each October which is a top notch festival. The festival offers great food, games and national music acts. If you haven't been, its about time you take a trip to Gretna. If your looking for a great place to live, I also encourage you to check out Gretna.

What can I say about Gretna that I won't feel like puts me on the radar…read more... First of all, Greta is three square miles. Do not speed in even one of those square miles. You are being watched either by an officer, or one of the scores of speed and red-light cams in the city. The tickets for speeding run you about 140 a pop. It is one of the very few incorporated cities in Jefferson Parish. It is essentially a suburb of New Orleans, on the west bank of the Mississippi River. Gretna has a long history of police and government corruption. It's quite the read...... They are known for their police academy, and their voracious desire to enforce the law. There are all kinds of really cool old buildings in Gretna; there is even an old train station. There are even a few really good restaurants, and they sell fireworks here at the various holidays. They are legal in Gretna; buy not elsewhere in Jefferson Parish. It is also the home of the Gretna Heritage Festival, a festival started in 1994 that often has really big name musicians playing. If you feel like tossing the dice, take a speedy ride through Gretna, then watch your mailbox for a surprise speeding ticket!
