Get a coffee or a sandwich and keep browsing. If you like locally produced products, then you will be happy that you came to the West Bend farmers market.

There is…read morea home grown rule at this market and if someone complains you are inspected and can be kicked out. I'm a vendor there so know. And yes some people HAVE been kicked out. Personally we buy used boxes we put our zucchini in and often even use them on the display. The boxes fit in our cooler better than the black crates. As far as the fruit, that is 1 exception. There is 1 or 2 vendors that have permission to get fruit from the Michigan produce markets while that fruit is not in season in Wisconsin.

The venue is also affordable which was one of the things I had the hardest time finding when it came to searching for venues. Even with the venue being incredible as is, Erin and Matt made our special day even more amazing. I can't say enough positive things about how seamless they made the process. Even before the wedding, Erin made herself available for me and was quick to respond to any of my questions. We used the "helping hands" that is available and it made the process of setting up and taking down everything quick and easy. They also helped out the day of the wedding with directing vendors, making sure we had everything we needed (and running to get anything we did need), and keeping everything on schedule. They also recommended a lot of vendors that they were familiar with (you're able to pick all your own, you don't have to go with any of their recommendations) so it could be a really easy process to find vendors if you chose to follow up with any of their recommendations. I really don't know how I could have made our day as perfect as it was without their help. I can't say enough things about how great this venue is and how incredible Erin and Matt are!

I get there right at 8am and beeline to that stand. They give you a pager while you wait which gives me time to do a lap or two around the market. From berries and lettuce in the spring to squash and kale in the fall, this market never fails me. I do notice that some days I come with the solid shopping list in mind, only to be inspired by the fresh produce to change my weekly menus. Yesterday I got fresh eggs, aged cheese, radishes, green beans, mushrooms, cauliflower, a brisket sandwich, Flowers, and other odds and ends. We took a short drive to Appleland, and oh what a great place! They have a little store that has Apple cider donuts, pies, jams, salsas, breads, wine, candles, soaps and so much more. Its heavy attended volume is well deserved; lots of interesting stalls line the ground floor, from coffee and candy to bbq and Thai. I wouldn't say it could replace regular grocery shopping; it's more like a fancy spot to shop for artisan goods like cured meats, sweet treats, baked goods, and other accoutrement. Plenty of seating on the open second floor (also a good spot to take photos of the market) if you want to eat there; otherwise grab some delicious food to go and enjoy the surrounding neighborhood!

Compared to other public markets we've visited, it felt much smaller, with roughly 30 or so vendors and food stalls to explore. Parking was also a hassle and added to the frustration of the visit. Once inside, one thing that stood out was how often we were reminded that the market would be closing soon. While we understood the closing time and weren't trying to stay past it, multiple reminders from different vendors made us feel a bit rushed as we looked around. There were some interesting food and shopping options, and it's worth a quick stop if you're already in the area. However, based on our experience, it didn't quite live up to the hype and wasn't as impressive as other public markets we've visited.
