This is the absolute best comedy class in Atlanta that you can take. Yeah it is more expensive than the rest but it's worth every penny. All the other classes offered around town are either taught by people that have taken Jeff's class or worse they've never taken a class yet they think they can teach comedy since they've done a couple of open mic comedy shows. Heck I could probably teach a class for 50 bucks but it'd suck and not come remotely close to the value that Jeff's class offers. Most people interested in taking a comedy class fit into the "it's on my bucket list" type of folks and this is a great class for this type of person. Regardless of whether you want to try it once or become a professional comedian this is the class to take. From day one Jeff teaches you how to hold the mic or leave it in the stand and what not to do with the mic or the stand, a problem many beginning or professional comedians make and will be clear next time you go watch a comedy show. You'll catch yourself wanting to yell out "don't do that..." Jeff takes you step by step through the process of writing your very own jokes with material from your own life. Each week he and your class help you make your material better. It is an extremely supportive and safe comedy writing environment. At the end of your 6 week class you get to graduate in front of usually a sold out crowd of friends and family, which you have invited, at the best comedy club in town, The Punchline. I have taken both of Jeff Justice's comedy courses, Part I and Part II. Both classes were remarkable experiences. Here's why you should take it. 1. Most comedy classes are not taught by bonafide comedians. Jeff Justice is a bonafide comedian. He got to the top the hard way, and he knows all comedy techniques inside and out. Not many comedy instructors can say they used to switch around being the headliner with Dennis Miller. 2. A secret about this course is that it's one of the best writing courses you can take. Standup comedy is one of the hardest forms of writing. Not a word can be wasted. The arrangement of a sentence needs to be constructed with special skill. A single word can make or ruin a joke. You learn writing techniques that apply to everything. You'll be a much better self-editor after this course. 3. People are most afraid of public speaking. So imagine not only speaking publicly, but doing it in front of 280 people...at the Punchline...and having to be funny...by yourself...for about 8 minutes. Yes, Toastmasters, theater, improv, Dale Carnegie, or other speaking courses are all great. But with those experiences, you have comfort, support, padding, or escape hatches. Standup comedy is just you and microphone, and there is no way out. You're either funny, or you're not. And you have to keep being funny, and you can't lose the momentum. So, if you can do standup comedy, you can do ANYTHING. You will be fearless. 4. The confidence and lessons you receive in writing, performance, delivery, and studying Jeff and other students is invaluable - especially if you give business presentations, speak at events, etc. If you even take 10% of what you learn here and apply it to your presentations, you will have an edge on nearly everybody else in your company or profession. 5. I heard about Jeff Justice through a number of close friends in the speaking business. As someone who gets paid to speak, anything I can do to give my audience a better experience is worth the investment. I signed up thinking it would be a class about how to be funny and tell jokes. That would have been enough for me, but Jeff overdelivered. You know a good coach when they focus on the basics. Jeff spent the first class drilling the importance of stage presence into our minds, and had us practice how to approach the microphone and connect with the audience. As a speaker, I know how crucial this is; your audience starts judging you immediately they see you, and how you handle yourself in the first few seconds makes a strong impression in their minds. Jeff then started working on the technical things about developing original jokes from our lives, using the things that are unique to us. We were all trying to create situations based on what we had seen but he got us to focus on the things that have happened to us. We all have so much comedy in our lives, we just need a coach like Jeff to show us how to find them and develop them. Did I mention that Jeff over-delivered!! Then, he helped rewrite our jokes, and then taught us the dynamics of delivery and how to memorize our material. Delivery is so crucial, and he kept harping on where to put the emphasis and following our punctuations. I thought I was taking Jeff's class just to learn a skill, how to be funny in front of folks. What I got was more than I expected. I found my voice, my natural and singular way of expressing myself. Jeff helps you find your sense of humor. I learned that it's not just about the words, but the things I find funny and the energy with which I express my perceptions. Jeff teaches the class in a way that learners become collaborators, we teach and learn from each other. We encourage and sometimes, console each other. There is support and camaraderie. Jeff Justice is the Bruce Lee of comedy. I would say Chuck Norris, but that sounds kinda racial. :P (is it cause I'm white?!?!) Anyhow, I took Jeff's class last fall, and it was awesome. He pushes you to become your best, really cares about the craft, and has a lot of good insight on comedy. He teaches you all of the tricks of the trade, and if your goal is to become a stand up comedian, this is the class to take.
