    I started working with this team back in the mid-2000s, when they operated out of a modest office…read morein Severna Park. Those were full and complicated years for me personally -- balancing career demands, marriage, divorce, raising kids as a single dad, estate responsibilities, and the loss of parents while taking on new family roles. Through all of that, having a small team that felt steady and attentive gave me real peace of mind. They managed my portfolio through both calm markets and turbulent ones, including the housing bubble, the financial crisis, multiple rounds of QE, and eventually the chaos leading into COVID. Over time, things changed. Around the point when markets and life felt especially uncertain, my advisor began shifting me to a junior manager. I don't recall much explanation, but my impression was that he was creating space to focus on wealthier clients. After two meetings the new advisor disappeared, and another young advisor took over shortly after. Around that period I began educating myself more deeply about macroeconomic risk, the long-term implications for the dollar, and the fees I was paying. I asked questions that went beyond the usual "stay the course" messaging, including discussions about physical gold and assets outside traditional paper investments. Instead of thoughtful conversation, I felt increasing resistance. Then, without any direct communication, I learned third-hand that my entire portfolio -- along with a trust I was responsible for -- had been transferred to another Ameriprise office unrelated to Centennial Wealth Management. In effect, I was dropped as a client without anyone having the professionalism to tell me directly. For a long time I wondered if I had been the problem -- maybe I was asking too many questions instead of quietly accepting the advice and the fees. With time, I've come to see it differently. A firm I trusted with my life savings chose to end the relationship without the basic respect of a direct conversation. That felt like a genuine betrayal. Today I'm retired and life is good. In some ways the experience pushed me to take ownership of my financial education, and for that I'm grateful. But I won't forget how the transition was handled -- it felt avoidant, unprofessional, and lacking basic respect. If you're wealthy, comfortable letting the advisor drive, and not inclined to question strategy or fees, this may be a good fit for you. But if you're a solid working client who asks deeper or occasionally inconvenient questions, be aware that the relationship may feel very different.
