Lots of Bikes
Joe S.

If you're in the market for a bike, then JC's Bikes & Boards in Deland is worth the trip. Having been to many of the bicycle shops in Orlando who were out of stock on stuff (due to pandemic and people actually getting out and moving, me included), we were shocked that they actually had a decent selection. Chris helped us out and found us two bikes to try out after asking us a few questions. He let us ride up the sidewalk to the bus area (if you go, you'll know) so you can really check out how the bike feels. I took 2 rides just to be sure and after searching online and in stores, decided to bite the bullet and purchase. They gave us a 5% discount for buying 2 bikes which was nice. After purchasing, they give you 10% off Accessories so we got some bottle holders and they mounted for us while they tuned up the bikes. Chris also helped us load the bikes into the SUV and got a big piece of cardboard to put in between. They also said to stop back for a tune up in 30/60/90 days as the cables stretch and the bike gets settled. Great shop, great prices, great job listening to what we were looking for, and great prices. We already went for 2 rides and they're a great upgrade from our $99 Walmart Bikes (which did the job for a while). Thanks a ton to Chris and this fabulous bike shop.

JC's

JC's is a truly core bike shop which is focused on BMX--a very rare thing these days with most BMX kiddies ordering from far-off vendors online. There are advantages to ordering some things online but for BMX I'd rather stick to a local, physical, shop when possible. JC's provides that exact shop for BMX but also carries road and mountain bikes, plus skateboards. Their real strength is BMX though and their selection by brands like Subrosa, Shadow Conspiracy, Animal, We The People, and more displays their dedication to our sport. As BMX has evolved into a sport where customization is more and more essential to many riders, JC's carries a lot of custom parts plus an ample selection of complete bikes. They've told me also that whenever possible they'll price-match with online retailers, which greatly curtails any appeal of ordering online, frankly. I really respect and like this store and their involvement and dedication to BMX. DeLand has a growing and very impressive BMX scene and JC's is a lot of the reason why.

Time for a tune up

Not our first visit -we have been here enough to know this is definitely the place to go if you are interested in not getting ripped off. On this day we had an issue with the chain tensioner, we dropped it off once told it would take a few hours and cost about $70 for the kit and installed. We received a phone call later that day that it was finished so we went to pick it up and was surprised to find it cost only $30. Once they began the repair they realized we didn't need the entire kit so instead of charging for something that wasn't needed they adjusted the price, super great honest guys- highly recommend

Jeremy was very helpful and knowledgeable and after some profiling steered her to a hybrid that she liked right away.

This is a unique store to say the least, located in the back corner of a small mostly empty strip…read moremall, it's definitely not in plain sight or easily found if you aren't familiar with the area. A business associate of mine needed to purchase a few articles of clothing after changing his travel plans and wasn't interested in visiting the local Walmart or Bealls so we decided to check out this place since they seem to have somewhat of a niche business when it comes to offering name brand sports wear like Nike and Under Amour just to name a few - the prices don't seem competitive with the brand's outlet stores but then again you can get name brand clothing in remote locations, you can also get baseball gloves, bats and soccer balls. Seems like a good business model unless you're a stock holder or employee and you're worried about the 100's of store closings or lack of customers. We were the only customers in the store during this mid-afternoon visit, the only thing more empty than the store itself was this strip-mall's parking lot although it does seem that some commuters may use the available parking spots for long term parking. The stores was very clean and organized and the staff was very friendly and seemed somewhat surprised that we were there, to me it reminds me of a General Dollar Store only for clothing and sports equipment but much less busy. Not knowing much about the financial situation of Hibbett Sports I don't know what lies ahead for this company but from what I see, I don't expect these guys to survive long unless they have one hell of a online business and the revenue supports the big executive salaries and that alone may keep them open for sometime. They were founded in 1945 so they've been open longer than I've been alive and I'm just now getting around to visiting them so what do I know. I'd return in a pinch it's just not the kind of place that comes to mind when I think of shopping...

I recently went in this store for the first time in search of a particular item, and noticed that I…read morewas the only customer. There was a young woman behind the counter (who used "like-uh" in every sentence) talking to a man who seemed to be a co-worker, or possibly a manager. She was telling him about the habits of another female co-worker. It sounded a lot like snitching. After spending about 15 minutes in the store, circling the merchandise several times, and receiving no acknowledgement from this pair ("hi" "welcome" "need any help?", etc.) or even eye contact, I left. Never will I enter this store again.
