I've been going to the Gallup JCPenney Hair Salon for several years and my hair stylist is Toni. She's great in the fact that she'll listen to me and work with me and make helpful suggestions. Terrible. Visited with my father to buy a suit for my mother's funeral. This was the closest place that we could think of. My father uses a wheelchair. Upon entering, there was no button to push for the doors to open so we had to fight with the doors while trying to push him in or have someone hold the door for us. The aisles were NARROW for someone in a wheelchair. We needed help with getting his measurements but there was no one around. One guy saw us and knew we were shopping but didn't offer assistance. We went into their teeny, tiny fitting room which was not easy for someone in a wheelchair to use- it was a struggle. I asked if there was maybe another fitting room around and was told that that was the only one. There are no hooks inside the fitting room to hang your selections either. I expected it to be like the JCP in Flagstaff but it wasn't. I love JCP too. read more

The store review gets 4 stars but the salon portion should get 0 stars. I'll tell you why. I went there on a week day recently and the girl up front with the blue smurf hair took me right away when I said I would like a haircut. I sat down and asked for a book for hair styles. She grabbed one and said that was the only book they had. They had recycled the rest she said. I found that hard to believe. So I went thru it quickly because their section on short hair was like 2 pages. I then started looking through my cell phone online to see what I could find. I had already looked through there so I asked about one and she was very discouraging. Then I asked about another one she said something about that one too. So then I asked her if she knew how to cut hair. She looked away and started fidgeting. And of course she said she knew how to cut hair. Then I continued looking through the images on my phone all the while she just stood there looking at me and my phone. I became aware of it so I asked her if she was going to stand there and stare at me. It was not a busy day from what I could see. 2 customers and 3 hairstylists. She said "well it looks like you haven't made up your mind." True but she should have perhaps screened me about what I was looking for. At least be of some help, right? Then she tried to reschedule me with someone else at a later time. Her reason because "you and I, I don't think... " She did a motion with her hands. I said I agree, whatever she meant I did not like her customer service skills, or lack thereof. I said no, I came here for a cut today. Then I immediately said I'll take my business elsewhere. I left and went to Regis. The gentleman there was courteous and professional. I told him of my experience at the "other place". And he proceeded to help me with choosing the kind of cut I wanted and which would be good for my type of hair and face shape. It was very refreshing to be treated with respect and courtesy. I will never go back to Gallup JCP hair salon ever again! read more
