Fully worth its full 5 stars. Large collection of tastes, and not as expensive as what we're used to in Belgium.

They did have a limited selection of hard liquor. We came across this place looking for a place to grab a drink once we realized that Birreria Lowenbrau was closed in the middle of the afternoon. The sun happened to peek out so we decided to find a place with outdoor seating. When I saw the "Bar Gelateria" outside, I thought we might there all night! After looking at the menu, we decided that we would only have one drink. I opted to go all out (and completely touristy) and get a gelato cocktail: Pinka Colada, basically a Pina Colada made with coconut gelato and grenadine. It was very tasty but could only stomach one because of how sweet it was. My boyfriend got a generic glass of "prosecco" which he thought was just fine. The total (which included some complimentary potato chips) was 10 Euro - quite reasonable for a fancy cocktail and a glass of wine. We left on a sugar high! I noticed that they had a few vegan gelato options. Our server was very nice. They only had a Turkish toilet; so be warned. And overall, it seemed like the place could be a little bit cleaner.

This gelateria is located in Barcola, the "Riviera neighborhood" of the city, so after getting your gelato you can enjoy it while walking on the promenade on the Adriatic Sea. If walking is not in your plans, they have several tables both inside and on the outside patio (I liked that on the outside patio they also have a few shelves for book exchanges). However, gelato is not the only thing they offer: this place is also a bar, you can have coffee but also an aperitivo, and accompany it with their tramezzini. Since they open very early in the morning, it's a great spot also for breakfast: they have a wide variety of pastries, desserts and cookies if you like breakfasts "the Italian way" (coffee and something sweet). Last time I was there I tried their croissant, krapfen and a tramezzino: everything was really good. The staff was friendly and prices are reasonable.

The tiramisu gelato was less good, maybe because our hostess had bee making homemade tiramisu and the tiramisu gelato just couldn't compete. However - the hot chocolate is to die for! We had been playing in the park on a cold, rainy day, and dropped in for a hot chocolate. So thick, so rich, so... well, chocolate!! Expensive, though - order it without the cream, no need for it, and it's a Euro extra for each cream. There's also an enclosed sidewalk eating area with a playhouse for children, so it's a great place to take children.
