Hella Fitzgerald was a huge hit at our son's Bar Mitzvah. We wanted live music as opposed to a DJ…read moreand we couldn't have been happier with their performance! Every musician in the band was outstanding. They accommodated all of our requests, including an extra long hora. :) All of our guests loved them and it was so refreshing to have 'real' music at our daytime event. Their price was extremely reasonable to boot! We highly recommend Hella Fitzgerald - they were fantastic!

A musician's dream!…read more Per the recommendation of our wedding planner, we worked with Hella Fitzgerald for our wedding in Big Sur, CA in August 2023. One of the best decisions we made for our wedding. I am a musician myself and had a lot of specifications for what I wanted throughout our ceremony, first dance, and dancing portions of the evening. And I mean a LOT of specifications! Music is something I am very particular about. Lilan worked closely with me on everything from which 2nd singer to hire to match the feel we wanted (the band works with various singers) to learning new songs that we had requested to adjusting songs to specific BPMs!!! She never seemed to lose her patience with me and would text me randomly with ideas or singer leads. One time she even texted me a couple vocal riffs she sang into her phone to see what I would prefer. We wanted a fun, sexy, big band feel and a talented group of musicians who could perform soul, Latin, swing, R&B, and everything in between. That is exactly what we got. We never left the dance floor. Thank you HF!

One half of the venue is an amazing restaurant while the other is to witness incredible music. Arrived on time for my 7:30pm reservation and was seated right away. Super pro tip - get a reservation! This place was HAPPENIN' Ya hear me?! There were tons of folks eating, drinking, celebrating, and having an overall good time. The food was absolutely incredible: Nigiri - Had a combo of Hamachi, Salmon, and salmon belly. Easily some of the best fish i've had in a while. So fresh and the salmon was fatty, buttery, and delicious. Caesar Salad - This was a miso caesar with a mix of kale and, romaine, parm, and wonton chips on top. YUMMY. Miso Cod - Out of this world! So good! And went perfectly with everything else I had that day. And the music was amazing! After our meal, we headed to the music venue portion of Yoshi's. We saw THE Rahsaan Patterson which was an awesome show. Great time over at Yoshi's! I really loved my experience and its so dangerous this is mega close to my new place.

Tonight was Rahsaan Patterson and he packed the place as 7:30pm show was sold out and the 9:30 show sold out that night. Let's talk Dinner. I tried something new on the menu and it was from the Sea. I chose the Gindara which is Black Cod marinated in saikyo miso served with asparagus, pickled ginger shoots and edsmame-shiso sauce. Great dish. Just the right amount of food after having the Beet and Mizuna salad. My server was Jorge and he was plesant and always available even tho his section was full of diners. They had plenty of staff to get you a fork, a spoon or to clear your plates. I decided to try the sake based on my server's suggestion. They have a sampler with three shot glasses full of a light, med, and heavy tasting sake. I liked the light one, it has a cherry flavor. They were all good to try. Next was the big reveal, my seating for tonight's concert. I got table 12. Jorge said it was a great seat. It actually is, not too close and far enough to take pictures a few small videos for concert memories. I had room for dessert so I chose the two scoop Gelato Green tea and pistachio with blackberries and blueberries. It's close to showtime so I was able to checkout at the table. I got in line and the staff are so efficient that they scanned everyone's tickets and provided handstamps to those who were in line. While in line, I also purchased a meet and greet package. The opening of the show as electric. The house was packed and you can feel the anticipation of many Rahsaan Patterson fans in the audience. He opened with 'Burnin" and threw a little of "So Hot' in the mix. The band and the background singers gave full peak performance. His next song was a cover of "I'll Go" origninally sung by Donnell Jones. I wish I had recorded that because he sang that perfectly. Next song was "Don't you know that." and he was about to say a few words, when we heard a loud scream and a thump. At first I thought someone fell out of thier chair. The lights were turned on and it was way more serious than I thought. Emergency services were called and a doctor and an RN were in the house and they immediately jumped to aid the victim. Oakland's EMT services promptly arrived on scene and the older man was led out in a gurney. In all, the entire situation was 20 minutes. The show was paused and the artist told the audience, "It just feels right to wait." people were clapping and praying out loud for this person to make it through and not pass away at the venue. The man survived but he was taken away with AED patches on his chest. I hope this man pulls through because that was the first time I ever say anyone taken out for a medical emergency during any show. Some in the audience were crying, including the artist. It took a minute for him to gain his composure. When he said the next song was going to be 'Spend the Night" the crowd reacted with excitement and support. The artist and the band pulled it off and were able to get back on track and on with the show. Rahsaan not only sings from his mouth, but he uses his whole body as an instrument to have an accent, expressivo, and sforzando on certain words and notes. If you like RnB, Neo Soul, he's definitely a must see in your concert line-up. The surprise was when he was introducing his band and backup singers. One singer Sarah, she can sing and has great range in her voice. After she sang a few lines from "Spend the Night" it was next singer's turn. You know who the next backup singer was? It was Trina "Same Girl" Broussard. Now I know this was going to be good once Rahsaan said her name and boy did she show out and turn it up. I love her voice. After the last song, I wanted more. Nooooooo, this can't be the end. next was the meet and greet. I had to wait until everyone cleared the venue so I patiently waited and headed backstage to the green room. It was short, but he was so nice, polite, and gracious. I asked how are we going to take pictures and he just grabbed my phone and said, "You heard of selfies, right?" I laughed and was so surprised that he threw in a kiss on my cheek. I'm saving that picture for my Insta LOL. I waited 20 years to see this artist in concert and looks like it was worth the wait. Thanks for the fantastic night Yoshi's I'll be back to support your business, live music, and local artists of all genres. See you some more on Yelp 2026
