I found Blu Beauty Bar last year via Groupon .Mrs.Terri did a great job with my natural hair.I…read morewanted something new and she surprised me with a beautiful vibrant red.She was fast and very professional.Recently I ran into a scheduling conflict with my hairstylist.I found a Groupon at $99 for a full sew in I called and booked online at 9:30 am for the next day with Hershey there is a $25 deposit fee.I was there on time but no one else was ..I called & called finally left a voicemail around 9:45ish.10 o clock I noticed the lights were on ( there's not many parking options at this location so I wasn't directly in front) .I walked up & rang the door bell.I was greeted with big smiles from Hershey & Mrs.Terri and unfortunate apologies. We had a brief conversation ,took a few before pics and she took me back to wash my hair. While washing my hair I told Hershey that Mrs.Terri had done a great job on my hair color the prior year. She was happy to hear I came back.FAST FORWARD through wine ,convo and the cable being cut off mid service.3:30ish I was finally finished Hershey took more pics and we met at the reception area where she said I had incurred a $70 fee (Which forfeited her tip because I wasn't aware til after the services were done) she also said that Her & Mrs.Terri had a conversation and she didn't realize that I had already been here (Even though I already told her Terri dyed my hair the prior year) using Groupon the prior year saying "In the small print it says Groupons are only for new customers so we hope to see you again but you can't use Groupon" I told her that I wasn't aware of that policy. Just shy of $200 later this experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth about Blu Beauty Bar.I will be more patient with my stylists as well .I consulted with Groupon on this matter and there actually isn't in policy My hair does look nice that isn't up for dispute.

It's amazing how many stylist don't know how to do this after type 4c hair was braided for over 2 months. The weave prices are moderate at around $200-$250. They have a yelp deal, pay $25 for $40 worth of service. Don't hesitate to make an appointment. CON- the shop smelled like food. It's best to have plug-ins or open the window when customers are in the shop.

This would be a zero star review if Yelp allowed it. I can't speak to the owner's ability to do…read morehair, judging from those reviews she seems to do great. I can only speak to her professionalism and how I was treated as a customer. Number one she changed my appointment time the day of to two hours later. Secondly, she has a policy that was not visible on her Styleseat page at that time, nor Instagram, nor Yelp where customers are not allowed to bring anyone with them to their appointment. So if you're a parent bringing your child in to get their hair done, you'd have to leave your child with a complete stranger, based off of her logic. I arrived 5 minutes ahead of schedule, she unlocked the door, didn't greet me and immediately asked my male friend if he was getting his hair done. He laughed, and I introduced myself to her and she immediately told me that he's not allowed in because she's been robbed and/or someone tried robbing her in the past. Basically insinuating that my friend and I, could possibly be trying to rob her. I booked this through Styleseat so her fee was already deducted out of my account. Clearly I'm not there to rob you! When she first said this I thought it was a joke and laughed a little myself, but she persisted with the robbery talk then said her other customers don't always want to get their hair done around strangers due to bald spots and so forth. She then asked me if I would want somebody's husband sitting in her salon while I'm getting my hair done. I told her that wouldn't bother me at all, because I personally don't have that type of insecurity. FYI, there was no one getting their hair done at the salon at this time. Then she tells me that she doesn't need my money that bad and that I should leave and she'd refund my money, which she did. I know a little about the law and I told her that not allowing someone to come in because you've been robbed before is illegal, that's discrimination. Her response was "this is my business and I can do what I want." I guess she treats her business like it's her own fiefdom and thinks it's exempt from the law which is just flat out ignorant. You cannot discriminate against someone because they're Black and you were or almost were robbed by another Black person, then try to hide behind your zero guest policy that you didn't have anywhere on your site nor did you inform me on when I initially got the salon number from Instagram. This "policy" wasn't on Instagram either. All in all, I found her to be totally unprofessional, discriminatory, and just not a pleasant person. Especially not one that I'd want touching my hair after the fact. She acted like she didn't want to be there in the first place, which I'm guessing is why she needed to switch the original time to two hours later. I would not recommend her to anyone and would say to steer clear of this stylist because it could happen to you too with her suspect way of picking people who are more or less likely to rob her. Find someone that's professional and treats all customers with respect.

I wouldn't go to this salon again. It has been a while since I went to this salon. The stylist cut…read moremy hair in a style that was shorter than I wanted it and didn't offer to shape up the back of my hair until I asked her to. The environment of the salon is cold and outdated. She was so focused on trying to sell me a bundles of hair but missed out on the part of having good customer service.

Their new location is a lot more spacious and inviting with a lot less parking but its usually pretty easy in and out. This salon did my daughter's hair recently and there were a couple of things that didn't sit well…read morew/me: 1. The staff didn't greet us warmly when we walked in and the stylist never said "hello" to us, nor was her tone friendly, as it should be when speaking with children. 2. My daughter's African- American but fluent in Spanish, she relayed to me that the stylist kept saying her hair was so short in Spanish. As though there's something negative about short hair. The entire service was $81 for a style that required no chemicals, I typically pay max $60 for this same style. On top of that, the style hasn't lasted because my daughter has natural hair that wasn't straightened out first. It seemed she wasn't trained or just didn't bother to work w/textured hair properly. What bothers me most is African-American woman have trusted Dominicans w/our beautiful hair even though many of their products, and styling methods, are not for our hair type and they don't care enough to learn our hair and work with it properly. And in some cases, they talk negatively about our hair texture, being to hard to comb or short, in Spanish, but take your money. Just because you don't like your African ancestry doesn't mean I don't love mine- I'm done, no mas!
