Unlike many antique stores it is well arranged and fairly spacious (3 levels) and NOT dusty like so may that tend to make you sneeze with decades old dust and mold spores in the air. It is primarily upmarket (and pricey) but some very nice art and furniture pieces. Mrs G loved a painting there but just too small for our 15 foot ceilinged family room (converted Manor house) and I loved a massive dining table (too big!!!). Antiques on High has the proper smell of old things and has an interesting range of antiques. Rather than focusing on big pieces of furniture, which so many antique shops do, it uses its space wisely to host: Jewellery, books, records, clothes, ornaments, pictures, maps and various collectables. The condition of the goods varies, but they're priced fairly reasonably. I find it's best to go in without the aim of buying something in particular, but just to browse. I can't say anything has ever caught my eye enough to want to buy it, but I've seen plenty of other people who have found the perfect addition to their home or the ideal gift. The best bit is the craft section, where there's a gallery of jewellery, leather, pottery, glass and art in general, all produced locally and all promising to be valuable antiques in the future. There's a great range in here and you can get something for less than a pound or spend hundreds of pounds. Equally, you can pop in for a few minutes or spend hours browsing - it's almost like a mini museum. If you like antique shops, this won't disappoint; if you've never been in one, try approaching it. Don't be put off by the prison-like bars in the windows; the staff are friendly and it's a different world inside.

I…read moredon't know very much about antiques, and I am normally put off by the prices, but I spent absolutely ages in here: there was a lot of great stuff, mostly very affordable. The jewellery and accessories were especially good; there was a gold bangle watch in there for only £25. Upstairs on the gallery they had a few 1930's fur stoles, mink and fox for between £20 and £40. Cheap as chips, considering! Plus the stuff was all laid out nicely in cabinets. I'm definitely going to come back when I need to buy some presents for people. You could get something really special at a decent price.

Her first answer was that the books were "prop pieces" but that she would be willing to sell the book for £5. Wow. It was published in 1862. If I remember correctly they had Indian, Chinese, Jamaican, Italian and something else. The market itself is quite quirky and if I'm honest a bit of a tourist trap. In the sense that prices don't quite beat other markets such as Camden or Portabello. But I guess it depends what your after. Atmosphere though is fantastic. Especially in the summer, you can sit down with a ice cream or coffee and people spot whilst enjoying some of the free street performances. There is also a band located in the basement which fills the air with familiar classical tunes. In the winter the atmosphere is very different, warm, cosy and bustling.

The lay out and the feel of the Flea market are as you would expect, stalls and cabinets dividing up a larger space within a splendid Victorian building. Much like Snooper's Paradise or any other flea market. What I think sets this place apart is the stock they seem to keep and the prices that they sell said stock for. There's a brilliant selection not just of retro tat, but fascinating antiques most of which are on sale for the kind of money that any sensible post graduate with a little flare and taste could afford. The staff seems a little mad too, in a good way, rather than quietly shuffling around as you would expect in a standard antiques shop they talk loudly and whiter away about their social life in a way that makes you feel that you can spend a good hour or so here simply to brows. This works very much to their advantage in my opinion as I now know where to turn for any difficult birthdays or Christmases. All in all, if you're enjoying a day wandering about in Lewes or if you are just in town and have the time, this place is definitely worth a visit.

I want to recommend my favorite antique shop which is centrally located in Lyndhurst. The shop has an incredible range of pieces from rustic ceramic to fine china, maps/coins/stamps from around the world, silverware, and interesting vintage pieces (corkscrews, scales, balances, bed pan warmers, toasting forks, coal scuttles, toothpaste jars). I came back multiple times to enjoy the shop as it takes some time to appreciate all the finds across two floors. The pieces are labelled with prices. She specialises in Silverware is but there are items of furniture, paintings, china, hip flasks, decanters, etc. There is a separate room at the back which sometimes has bargains. A good mooch for an unusual present. Deserves to be supported the owners have a lot of knowledge and it is well worth a visit .It is situated on the opposite side of the road to Marks and Spencer.
