What it ended up being (also maybe it was strogaoff? either way it was expired)

I got an expired lasagna from here. All the employees were really nice but expired lasagna. Update: they offered to refund me if I bring it back in but I had already thrown it away and didn't feel like getting it back out. Here are the photos though

In short: A classic small-town butcher shop that offers a…read morelittle bit of retail and full-service butchery (e.g., if you buy half an animal or bring in game meat). In long: It's a ways from town, which means freeway time and maybe a little savings in the end. It's on a long straight country road, and has that Hollywood-western façade that makes tourists feel like they've gone someplace new. Inside, there's a smallish room with a bunch of freezer cases that you open from the top to reach in. Understand, much of the retail inventory here is frozen. You can get some good prices on a few things, and the stock must change somewhat now and then. Their webshop lists a couple hundred different items for sale and there's no way there are that many in the physical store. Like most independent butchers, they don't have Prime grade meats for most of their selections most days. Buying power at big-box/warehouse stores is where you have to turn for Prime most of the time. We found steaks, pork chops, and snack sticks at good prices. The staff were nice, but the guy who seemed to be the boss was more into answering phone calls. Word has it locally that these guys offer good specials from time to time. Bottom line, if you're local, this place can help supplement your grocery shopping. It's a long drive to pay roughly the same prices I already pay at the butcher's, and with not much Prime to choose from, it really comes down to processing a whole/half animal to get the most out of this place.

So despite the flavor being a 10, the texture and smoke flavor suffer. In addition to making a jerky that friends and family love, I have purchased jerky from about every possible website, and local butcher, so when I tell you I know quality jerky, I am certified. I passed this place last summer on my way to a concert at Remlinger Farms. I said I would double back and today was that day. Small shop, but enough space to have a reasonable selection of meats. I was extremely impressed with their exotic meats. Can't say I'd be a customer for ground rabbit, but I do know people that love to make pet food or snacks from exotic offerings. Being a fan of heat, I checked for hot links and spicy smoked offerings, but the selection there was limited. I think I saw about 6 people behind the counter. And besides myself there was one customer who was being helped. For some reason I was ignored for a few minutes, but once I made eye contact with someone it because clear, ignoring me was no longer an option. Once served, I have to say the service improved. The main person I spoke with might have been an owner, if not, he had to be a manger. He provided me with sample of the jerky's and pepperoni. I tried the Colorado and Spicy Jerky. The spicy jerky had a tiny kick, not nearly as much as advertised, but I didn't dig the flavor. The Colorado, which was just a standard smoked jerky was the winner. It was salty and savory and reminded of the jerky that Hickory Farms used to sell in store. Not the bagged retail stuff, they used to have a large jar with smoked jerky for sale. It reminded me of another favorite. There is a place in Shelton called Home Meat Service, that has a jerky that is well worth the drive. The pepperoni, was a little dry, lacked snap and salt, but still had promise. I got Jerky, pepperoni and Hot Italian Sausage. I cooked the sausage for breakfast, it was ok, but nothing special. This could have been a 5-star experience, but the slow recognition really bothered me. I don't believe that would have been the case had I looked more like the common customer. I read the reviews before coning here and several spoke about the warm welcome they got, so again it's clear to me, when comfortable, they treat customers like family.

And their house-made fish dips are amazing. In long It's a little strip mall by the Speedway that would be kinda sleepy except for the drive-through coffee line constantly forming around the whole building. E&O have the end unit. You walk in to a shelf full of solid-value wines, mostly local, aimed to pair with whatever you might take home with you to cook. The ceilings are high, and the walls and floors are all spotless white. No decorations, very little merchandising, if any. There's a long butcher case on the left full of all kinds of crazy treats. Prawns the size of bratwursts. Steaks, roasts, different fish. They skip most of the stuff that supermarkets carry and focus only on more-specialty stuff. Their stock is either a nicer version or it's something that's unavailable elsewhere. You do pay for quality like this on some of the stuff, but if you're cooking a meal you're really looking forward to, the value makes it reasonable. Not everything is expensive, either. They had fresh lemons on the case for 40% less than the supermarket up the street. They had reds, whites, bubblies, and pinks in the wine section with every bottle under $20. And those fish dips, man. I'm surprised they don't sell out by afternoon every day. We had wild salmon and black cod dips before dinner last night, and both were fantastic. They're very well balanced, so maybe you could add hot sauce or fresh herbs to taste, but we've had them several times and never felt compelled to tune them up. The dudes behind the butcher case have decades of industry experience, and they couldn't be nicer, more patient, or more helpful. I love shopping here.
