My PCP was attentive to all of my questions and concerns. I got the best care I've ever received. However during and after the pandemic this place has become a complete disaster. The turnover for the front desk is base on students coming and going so when you call and put in requests they don't always make it to the right person. They've managed to charge me for things that we not done and appointments that were cancelled well in advance and will cancel your care if you do not show up regularly and then will put you under review to see wether or not they will reinstate you as a patient. I've never heard of such garbage. I pay my copayments I cancel in time so that I won't get a surcharge for not showing up so the fact that they continue to claim I owe for something I definitely do not owe is crazy business to me. I heard horror stories in the past about this practice and defended this place but now I'm here to let you know that if you go to this place be prepared to be played with when it comes to money. It's no longer warm and welcoming the waiting room is depressing good luck on your search for quality care though because this isn't the place I will ever recommend ever again.

However the quality of care is questionable and has been declining as they grow. My primary care doesn't seem to want to treat or refer anything. My gastroenterologist takes lots of labs but ignores patient statements about whether things are getting better or not. My endocrinologist lets her aide decide whether or not patients need refills or not, even to the extent the aide removed one of my prima meds and the doc keeps wondering why my diabetes is no longer controlled as well as it used to be. My urologist did not believe the side effects from a med he prescribed. The lab is undersized and apparently an afterthought despit's the fact it seems as if MedStar Shah physicians rely on labs and not patient input. Overall they seem more interested in patient volume and not actual treatment. I started at Medstar Shah because they have a monopoly on the endocrinologist in Charles County but do not be fooled, it's a low bar of health care in their practice. They do have a good cardiologist.

She is a wonderful employer as well. She is empathetic, never has a bad thing to say about anybody for all years I have known this beautiful soul. I have had many patients tell me personally that Dr. Mathews has done for them what no other doctor has been able to do for them. This is because she is "old school" she actually uses charts. We are a paper office and she takes the charts home. She researches while putting symptoms, complaints etc. together like a puzzle. All of this is possible due to the support of her staff! Asha and Dr. Mathews' minds are like elephants! They remember everything about ANY patient down to the detail!( where it is in a pile of charts with the same name!) Sheila handles the billing and is the most professional, pleasant person to work with. I have to say I have the dream job. If you want a dream neurologist, Dr. Mathews is the one.
