I am posting this review to document my experience as a patient at Merit Health River Region…read more I came to the hospital seeking treatment for a serious medical issue and left feeling that my condition was not fully addressed before I was discharged. After my discharge, I continued to have ongoing medical problems and had difficulty getting clear answers and follow-up care instructions. In addition, I attempted to obtain my medical records through a HIPAA records request and experienced difficulty obtaining complete records and responses. Access to your own medical records and clear discharge instructions are extremely important for continuity of care, and the process was much more difficult than it should have been. This review is not written out of anger, but to document my experience and to encourage improvements in patient communication, discharge planning, and medical records access so that future patients have a clearer and safer experience when leaving the hospital and trying to obtain their records. I hope the hospital administration will review its discharge procedures and medical records request process to ensure patients can receive proper follow-up care and timely access to their records.
