In town for the holiday and was eager to try some local eateries. Java was the first stop.. Very please that they used local ingredients. Mostly organic, grass fed and cage free. Restaurant: 3/5 a lot of staffs were behind the counter, leaving very few to have time to bust tables, empty the trash and refill the condiments. I have to clean my table and chairs before I can sit down. Food: 5/5 food was awesome. I had 2 fish tacos. Fish was made to order so it took longer than my son's chicken burrito. But honestly it just a small piece of fish but the ingredients that was on the tacos was soo good. I can have it w/o the fish., it's filled with cilantro rice, cheese, green/red peppers, black beans and topped peach chutney. It's gorgeously plate but simple. Paired with a corona. It's heavenly.. My son love his chicken burrito.. and accordingly to him. He was very surprised how different it tasted. Assuming it would be like a chipotle. I can't with him sometimes. Not only does this place have killer burritos, they also have tacos with the option of crispy flour tortillas, which my fiancé LOVED. To start, this is the BEST place on the island we have observed so far with coronavirus regulations. EVERY employee was PROPERLY wearing a mask. Distance markers. Tables spread out. Outside seating. We took our food to go but would have been happy eating here. On to the food. It's great! I love Chipotle and would say this is a higher quality and more expensive chipotle. My wife and I used to love coming to Java Burrito and I spoke highly of it to my friends. Yesterday, we were very disappointed in our food. We both ordered the vegetarian dishes. The server dished out tiny portions of beans to our plate. My wife tried to complain but the server just said you can put more stuff on down further in the line. The beans were less than a 1/4 cup of beans. Since we are vegan, we don't order meat, seafood or dairy. Having beans on a meal like this is important because we need the protein and fiber from the beans. The restaurant is already making a decent amount since we aren't getting anything expense on our plate. The beans are cheap to serve so why not serve more when people ask for a little more? read more

Just visited Hilton Head Island, SC and my family was bragging about this place. I read a review that said "this is what Chipotle COULD be". I agree. Very much like Chipotle Grill, but the meat was higher quality. Chicken tasted great, but still had some fat and a bit of grizzle. The shredded beef was excellent, and not much fat at all. Adding my praise for this great place. Java Burrito has become a family favorite whenever we visit my mom on Hilton Head. It has some terrific vegetarian options: veggies and/or Beyond Meat. Tastes great so there was always a line when I went. They have breakfast menu til 11am. It is like Chipotle in that it is made to order, but it tastes so much better. I got egg+chorizo burrito and they loaded it up with what I wanted. Guac is extra. Their guac is way better than Chipotle and Moe's. I think a breakfast burrito could be three meals for me. We had a great experience here. Basically a Chipotlex5. Outstanding food and one of the best burritos I have ever had. Everyone we were with enjoyed their meal. The Margaritas were great as well. There was a decent line, moves slightly slower than chipotle but 100% worth waiting for. There is not a ton of seating but it's definitely a quick table turnaround time. Love, love, love this place. It is better than your big brand burrito places with comparable prices. You have barstools, couches, single chairs, and plenty of table space. Multiple televisions. There is wifi. You can purchase ice cream, beer, wine and/or coffee with your burrito or taco. They have plenty of options for ingredients for your food specific for breakfast and then later lunch/dinner. Delicious entrees. Friendly staff and quick service. Customers seemed off too because they were staring blatantly at people as they walk into the place. Tried scanning the QR code for the menu and it flat out didn't work. The other red flag is the large number of people ordering take out. The food is ok. I would be willing to try the coffee one morning and hope for a friendlier crowd behind the counter and in line. I can't tell you the number of times we've eaten at Java Burrito, every single visit to HHI and Savannah since we discovered it years ago. We've been here for breakfast and lunch and both are enjoyable. Most of the employees are happy to be here and are helpful answering questions concerning food allergies. Definitely try their hot sauce but I strongly suggest you ask for it on the side, it's HOT! Kind of like a Chipotle or a Move's but a little better. I don't really consider this place to be stellar, but it has a great concept and I love that it's basically open all day with breakfast and coffee options. The food is relatively fresh. We ordered a chicken quesadilla, burrito with local fish, and a salad with local fish. The chicken quesadilla just tasted like a normal, under-seasoned quesadilla. As for the fish in the burrito and the salad those were pan fried to the point that they were slightly over cooked and a little dry. It wasn't all that noticeable in the burrito, but it definitely stood out in the salad. Admittedly, what's sort of turned me off is the portion sizing for salads and burritos. In comparison, I'd say the portion I had gotten for my salad was half the amount I'd normally get at a different company chain and the burrito was about 2/3's the size of several different chains/restaurants I've been to as well. I'd argue that their pricing - which is on par with Chipotle - is a little higher relative to the portion sizing. The one benefit of coming here is that they won't get your order wrong, which is common for most Chipotles I've been to. Overall, this is a decent alternative to Chipotle... but if you're a visitor to the area, there are better options. read more

Score! A HUGE step up from Chipotle and Moe's. When you have young kids, the big seafood and higher end places can seem daunting when you just want a quick bite that isn't fast food or a typical chain. I loved that my kids had the fresh fish kids bowl (the fish is made to order) with rice and veggies for dinner. They loved it and their meals cost appx $4 each. I had amazing fish tacos topped with lots of guac and great salsa and veggies. The fish was beautiful and cooked perfectly. We were there around 4:30pm, so their fresh lime margaritas were just $5. My husband had a great burrito bowl. Our entire meal was $48 and included 2 lovely margaritas. read more
