cheese and crackers on a plate

Life is getting back to a normal when you can sip wine outside on a 90 degree day at the winery. I was here for a bachlorette party. They purchased a combo 5 bottles with chocolate and cheese trays. The chocolate had to be eaten quickly so not to melt. "Darn" The group got to pick the bottles that were served in a bucket of ice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The sun was a killer so they helped us move our table into the shade of one of their trees. All around great experience and I enjoyed the wines.

Jasper holds Thursday summer concert series. What a fun night. You bring your own chairs and snacks if you want. They do have food trucks and grilled brats on site. They sell adult beverages as well. Many bicycle riders stop by on their rides for this event. Parking is available in their lot as well the street.

Very friendly tasting with a variety of wines. They have a great selection of types of wine drinks including canned wines and barrel aged wines. We got a some to bring home, but enjoyed a bottle of Seyval Blanc out on their patio with a cheese and sausage board. Wedding pictures were being taken on the beautiful grounds. Great place to visit!

Need an afternoon activity? Cheese and crackers with a bottle. Done.

Disclaimer - I am not a connoisseur of wines. I like Welch's grape juice and gummy bears, among other unsophisticated foodstuffs. That said, Jasper winery has options to satisfy every palate. The tastings are relaxed and fun. My suggestion for a great afternoon with friends - sample their stuff in a tasting, buy a bottle of your favorite, order a cheeseboard and go find a cozy seat by the fireplace and share some time together. The cheese was cubed, nothing fancy. If you come in with the right expectations this place can offer a really good, relaxed experience.

Chronologically speaking... Upon arrival to Jasper Winery you can't help but notice how modern and fresh the building is. Surrounded by a small patch of vines and just a few steps from Grey's Lake, Jasper Winery is a very ideal location for hosting events. The winery was slightly busy when we entered with 4 or 5 folks standing at the tasting bar grabbing a glass or taste. Our game plan was to try our the complimentary tasting, choose our favorite, purchase a bottle and hang out for a while. Our tasting plans kicked off on an ubbbbeerrr slow start. We were told we would be helped shortly, unfortunately, "shortly" ended up being close to a half an hour later. Literally 10 other transactions strolled up to the counter wanting to taste, buy a glass and were served while we stood there. I'm typically patient when it comes to this sort of thing but the blatant out-of-order approach made it a frustrating start to our visit. Fortunately, after the tasting kicked off and the juices were flowing our visit started to turn up. Tasting flights are pre-set and you can choose to either go dry or sweet (6 tastings on each). If you're craving cheese to round out the experience, note that they have several Iowa cheeses on hand. *Had it not been for the delayed, less-than-hot start, I would easily give this business a 4+ rating.

Wine & chocolate pairing (sadly didnt get any chocolate, not vegan!)
    Emily S.

Came in for a bachelorette party to do a wine tasting. We were set up with the chocolate and wine pairings. They had a cute little set up with trays that had a piece of different chocolate for a tasting of wine. Unfortunately not even the dark chocolate was vegan so I did not get to try any and didnt get the full effect of the pairings. I liked most of the wine and the employees were very nice to check the ingredients of the chocolate for me. It was also a lot less expensive than I imagined. It was a nice hour for $15. The room was kind of bland and big but it seemed like you could bring in your own decorations if you wanted to. Ive heard good things about events here so hoping to come back for one in the future.

We had a wonderful time at Jasper Winery, I would 10/10 recommend for anyone traveling, visiting or living near Des Moines. First of all, they have free wine tastings which was definitely equivalent to a glass of wine. I'm not a wine expert but their wines were pretty tasty. Of the 5 semi-sweet to sweet wines, there was only one I didn't care for, but still not bad. Did I mention the wine tasting is free!? They also have games available to play and fireplaces to keep you warm. The woman who provided our wine tasting was very friendly.

    Jessica C.

Good wine and very helpful girl up front! She knew a lot about the different flavors in the wines and was awesome helping us decide which wines were for us. Wish the weather was nicer but still nice area outside to sit and enjoy a bottle or two

I'm a fan of their Behind the Shed Red!

I really enjoy this place. Great in the summer for outside seating, close to the bike trails, special music at times. Nice fireplace for winter visits. Always a pleasant staff. Wines are good. I like the Norton & Chancellor, while the Lucy Lane & Edelweiss are more affordable $10 & nice as well. Free Tastings, or get it by the bottle or glass. Cheese plates too! Little bummed they have a $5 corkage fee now.

I tried to the mahi mahi which was delicious. For the table I also got to try the meatballs which were good, and the brussel sprouts which were also tasty. Overall, I'm glad we went back to give them a second chance as this experience was much better than the last. This is a very nice restaurant that is a part of over 55 in the growing chain that started in Overland Park, IL in 2005. Our friends in Wisconsin recently mentioned Cooper's Hawk and how good their Ahi tuna was - and given how much we enjoy Ahi tuna, that likely played a significant role in my wife's decision to make a reservation. Beyond the wine flight that my wife ordered (see picture), we started with Asian Ahi Tuna Sashimi (see picture). As you might expect (sashimi), the portions were quite small...but it was quite delicious. Food and Drink Guy Tip: The soy dipping liquid was also great and the leftover mix was quite tasty on the pretzel bread loaf. For our main courses, my wife ordered the Trio Medallions (see picture) and I opted for the Chicken Giardiniera (see picture). As we always do, we shared tastes of each other's dishes and the Trio Medallions were fantastic - tender, juicy, flavorful and perfectly cooked (medium rare). While our waitress Jennifer (who was great by the way) described the Chicken Giardiniera as spicy - neither of us found it very spicy, but we both found it delicious - tasty breaded chicken breasts soaking in that wonderful giardiniera juice! Food and Drink Guy Tip: Given my love of good bread soaked in tasty juices and sauces, I asked for another loaf of the pretzel bread and used it to soak up all that remaining delicious juice on my plate and sauce on my wife's plate. I highly recommend this, as it was so good that I treated it as my dessert! The plates were so clean after this that a member of the wait staff commented that we mustn't have liked our meal very well... While this clearly isn't the cheapest place in the area for dinner, they do serve high quality food in a clean, modern atmosphere with above average service, so deserves to be on your short list for your next special occasion. She wanted an outdoor wedding & Annelise Winery was one of a few places that had a place to have the ceremony inside if the weather was bad. Before going to the winery my daughter emailed the owner & told him that she would like the ceremony there & he gave her some prices. When we got there he didn't remember the email conversation with my daughter. Then the owner proceeded to say that we couldn't have the wedding ceremony there without having the reception there also. He then had a 10 minute conversation with himself while we stood there watching. At the end of " his" conversation he decided it would be "Ok". Note: none of this was written down while we were talking. Through the year engagement they went there 2 to 3 times & each time he didn't remember them or the specifics of their contract. He badgered them each time about them having their reception there. One month before the wedding we went there because the owner hadn't contacted them about chairs, how they wanted them set up & other specific details about the ceremony. When we arrived he made the comment "it's a good thing you guys came because I wouldn't have known how to set up the chairs". He also rented out the changing rooms that we needed for the wedding party to get ready to some one else for their graduation party. Then the day of the wedding when we got there, he said that the graduation party was over & we could use the changing rooms after all. We had gone & bought a bunch of dividers & other items to use so the girls could change & had to transport them down there - all for nothing. He yelled at people for bringing water bottles in because he sold them, but he never told us that before. He never offered help but was always there to yell at us if we did something wrong. Bottom line - the owner is an a**hole, doesn't communicate & is NOT a business man!!!!
