I could tell immediately that she takes pride in what she does and truly knows what she's doing. Like most people, I'm always a little nervous when I go somewhere new for any kind of cut, but almost immediately I knew I could trust her vision and could let go of the reigns, and I'm so happy I did because she knew exactly what it needed! Also, not only is she a true professional at what she does, but she is also the warmest, sweetest person who makes you feel right at home. Go see her if you can!! I am coming back!!!!

I didn't catch the name of the hairstylist who did my hair, but she was so considerate and nice. She also speaks Cantonese and Mandarin. I felt like I was conversing with one of my mom's friends haha. Well I asked that she cut my hair halfway down my back and that I also wanted long layers. She did just that and didn't try to push me into cutting it shorter. From when I got my hair washed, dried, then to getting it cut, the whole process took 40 minutes. It also cost me $45. Overall, I really like the results. Since this hair salon is so close to my house, I'll continue to come here for my haircuts.

Late as usual to this post. Sorry Jaime…read more Style & Grace Hair Gallery and Jen are happily my regular hair team, if one can say they have a "hair team." But I needed an appointment for an "updo" for a formal event and was booked with Jaime, for Jen was booked elsewhere. Fine by me, for I would trust anyone in Style & Grace. I see Jaime around the salon and she always radiates a bit of sunshine, professional expertise and badass female vibes every time I see her. This was my first appointment sitting in her chair and I kind of knew I was in the right hands. I absolutely did not want "mother of the bride, nor Holly Hobby teen" updo. I think I stated to Jaime the need for "I'm in mid 50's, skateboarding woman, needs formal hair that shows my edgy personality, yet stylishly on point and can last until I am out until 4am and possibly over served" updo style. All while in a formal gown. LOL! The kind of style that says you cared enough to have your hair professionally done, but also messy enough to let my personality show. She nailed it! Easy for Jaime to complete, but impossible for me to ever execute on my own. Thus always trust a professional, right? She taught me a few tips and tricks about product and such that are always welcomed along the way. And my messy perfection style lasted until the wee hours of the AM as I needed it to. Thanks Jaime.

I had three appointments with Shelly for extensions. During my first visit, she quoted me a…read morespecific price for 24-inch extensions. When I returned to confirm, the quote had increased for the exact same service. After I pointed it out, she agreed to honor the original quote. However, at the very last appointment, as i was leaving, I saw in her notes that she had actually ordered 22-inch extensions instead. I was lied to, twice. At my first installation, everything seemed fine at first, but within a few days, one edge of my extensions began to lift. When I came back for a correction, I mentioned that the track created a visible bump due to my fine hair. Rather than addressing the concern professionally, Shelly called me "crazy." That comment stung, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. At my next appointment, she admitted she could see the bump and would move the tracks lower, confirming the issue I'd raised earlier. However, her attitude was consistently passive-aggressive throughout the visit. A couple days after that fresh installation, a bead fell out after washing my hair. I also noticed the bottom track wasn't aligned properly, and I had to trim about two inches myself to even it out. When I let her know about the bead, I expected a simple, professional response -- an offer to come in and have it fixed. Instead, five days later she replied that I was "always looking for something wrong" and said she felt uncomfortable working with me. She completely ignored the bead. The irony is I never mentioned the hair I cut off to even the bottom out. Shelly is passive-aggressive aggressive, deflects accountability and will directly blame you for anything. I asked her to not put my beads so tight and she blamed the pain on my hormones/period. It has been a week. I havent gotten it. Shelly even went as far as to seed doubt about my relationship with my colorist. Making an off hand remark "Ramona wants to get rid of you." I brought this to the salon owner, Jessica, and explained the situation, including the unprofessional comments. Unfortunately, Jessica defended Shelly, saying it was just a "personality clash." That kind of dismissal made it clear that accountability and client satisfaction isn't a priority there. The star is entirely for Ramona, who did my color and cut beautifully. I'm genuinely disappointed that I won't be returning because she was great, but the overall salon environment and Shelly's behavior made me too uncomfortable to continue. Update- I'd like to add that Shelly and her assistants will talk shit about coworkers right in front of you. The entire atmosphere is highly unprofessional.

After calling around to several locations, I lucked out and found Komi Hair Studio. They were able to take me in an hour and half so I grabbed a quick bite to eat then headed on over. Their location is in the Gramercy on the side of the building closer to Starbucks. They mentioned they are in the midst of renovation, but I thought it looked super cute inside, very adobe earth tones feel. I also love that they offer to make you a drink during your service, which I totally would have tried had I not just gotten a coffee before coming. To my delight there was a pink felt board welcoming me for my appointment! My stylist was Jenna and she is awesome! Before my haircut, she looked over my hair and asked what I was wanting (keep my length and just refresh my layers and bangs) Then she took me over to wash my hair and such a treat they do a head a massage with essential oils and top it off with a hot towel...so relaxing and such a nice personalized touch. We had nice conversation, and she took her time with my cut and gave me a great blowout. Another cute moment that stood out to me was while I was getting my blowout the sweet woman working the front desk (I forgot her name) came by with a basket of treats offering one to each of us if we wanted a snack. So sweet!! I loved my experience here at Komi, and now I know where I can go for my next cut! Highly recommend if you're looking for any hair services with a personal touch. (I have very dark brown hair and a lot of times it is difficult to make it as red as I would like) and she asked me to choose which shade I would like (a vibrant red-violet) and told me she would try.
