Melrose Trading Post - Should I buy that Ring?

If you want to see or be seen in LA... this is the spot to be!…read more Ever wondered what's trendy or fashionable in SoCal? Melrose will let you know as soon as you arrive. Parking is easy to find as they provide valet parking which is marketed as free, but realistically tip-based. Entrance fee is less than $10 which is much cheaper than the Rose Bowl Flea Market. There is a good variety of booths from candles and crystals to vintage clothing and underrated designers. The prices range from very cheap ($1-$5 clothes) all the way up to hundreds of dollars for rare finds. The sellers are very casual and chill which makes shopping here a fun experience. There is also art and furniture here and the Grove is walking distance from this place. Erewhon is also a couple blocks away. Overall, this is the perfect spot for any tourist visiting LA wanting to experience the lovely sunny weather. It is also a great place to kill time on a Sunday and people watch (with sunglasses preferably).

Plus, there are food trucks & stalls as well. Proceeds from admission go to support the school's programs. ($6/VIP pass $100 a year.) The last Sunday of the month they also host an adoption fair for Loved Again Pets, which brings me here. After I drop off my foster for the day, I like to browse and see what unique items I can find. The vendors are friendly and happy to answer your questions. *Metered street parking. Tip based valet parking (limited).

The Los Feliz Flea sale is a medium sized affair in the parking lot/exterior space of Our Mother of…read moreGood Counsel School/Church. Unlike most flea markets, this felt more like a craft fair and less like an affair where you rifle through junk looking for a gem. That is to say: there is a combination of different merchants. Some are selling genuine vintage/antique clothing, records, decor and others are selling their personal ceramics, picture frames and more. It's an interesting combination but I would caution that this is NOT a flea market where you can find an armful of treasure for five bucks. The flea market hosts a number of food and beverage purveyors so you can easily get a snack while you peruse what's on offer. But the VERY best thing about this flea market: TONS of free parking in the back of school.

Runs every Saturday -- free parking and free admission -- yay! We arrived around 1pm -- parking was busy but we didn't find it hard to find a spot. Vendors were upstairs and downstairs in the same structure. We started downstairs. The layout is clean and spacious. I appreciated the cute signs that direct you to each floor. Although the rooftop was hot, there were umbrellas along the walkway and some shaded table seating next to the food/drink vendors. The vendors we met were all so nice and willing to negotiate. Downstairs I found a vintage blouse and was somehow convinced that I needed a winter cardigan. The seller gave me a deal I couldn't refuse! Upstairs my husband bought two vintage shirts to add to his collection. It was then time for a break -- the FYMBAS Matcha Latte and Strawberry Cola Slush were perfectly refreshing. We'll be back. :)

Oh man, so ive been to Slauson Swapmeet, Pico Swapmeet, Santa Fe Springs…read more... but daaaaaamn, this one is off the chain. Happens to be my buddy Petro lives across the street from this place, and i never thought to look twice at it, till one day. After freezing nights driving around for dinner with MJ H. (on Yelp), sucks because my windows were limo tinted and we cant drive around risking getting ticketed. I felt so bad because she totally put up with the cold. so one day, on the way to 7/11, i ask Petro, where can i get my tint removed, and he says, "Dude, right there" as he points across the street. So i drive across the street, and get the tint removed, $20...!!!!! tahts all, and they did a clean job. WHile waiting for that, we go into the swapmeet, and man. It was a Gangsters paradise. They had all the plain shirts, in big sizes, dickies, cloth belts, nike cortez, and cowboy hats and boots? WTF..? then i find out theres a mini concert going on in there. hahhahahaha NO JOKE, there was a Cebollitas Banda rockin it...! LOL so yeah, we left with 3 black plastic bigs filled with dickie shorts, 3xt white and blick shirts, underwear, socks, and a new belt. Sorry cowboys, no boots and hat for Marvin....!!!!

Theres clothes (legit knockoff brands too!) for everyone, LA/Hollywood souvenirs, things for parties and quinceañeras, perfume or cologne, makeup, merch and services for your car, haircuts and beauty parlors, Mexican snacks and candy, shoes/hats. They have pretty reasonable prices and deals; you can negotiate with them too! Yet if you want to support smaller vendors/businesses it's a good way to do that. The place is a bit of a maze and had a nostalgic vibe to it. Parking and admission is free; payment for items where cash is encouraged but some accept cards or Zelle/CashApp. I would say the internet is spotty and some vendors try to play as if it didnt work so double check your transactions as you shop there. From the main entrance where the kid rides are, I would avoid the Korean American woman vendor directly to the right inside the entrance due to this sort of transaction issue (although we have bought substantial things consecutively from them) where it had the potential to get bad on her accord. Most everyone is else cool, including the South Asian woman selling hats and things a few booths down from her :)

A lot of their events are also themed too and this can go with various series and franchises (Ghibli, Sanrio characters, Adventure Time, etc.), trinkets focused, $20 and under days, and much more. I'm glad that this event is revitalizing life back into the Little Tokyo Galleria Mall, which I might visit if I had to go to Daiso, I want good taiyaki or walnut cakes, or we're just randomly wandering in the area. It's not a destination I necessarily go out of my way to go to if I'm in LT, so this is nice. Just know that the air flow AC might not be the best and even during the spring months it gets really muggy and warm inside, so I can't imagine the summer events. Hopefully it's improved. Also just a fair warning, depending on the popularity of the "theme" of the flea market, there might not be THAT much of what you're purchasing. I went to the Chiikawa themed one in the past and yes there were a COUPLE vendors with original art of Chiikawa, but like no vendors had any official merchandise (or everything was already sold out by noon). Even the pop up tat artists didn't have any Chiikawa ones NOR did they have temp tattoos (you know a lot of people would pay for this and great for kids). Go with lower expectations and don't expect the theme to be super on point, but again, nice event for the community.

They also had a few tattoo vendors that will give you one on the spot. They also have a few stores around the area. Didn't buy anything from the vendors at the flea market but did buy a matcha bowl and whiskey holder for a really good price along with a sun hat at one of the stores inside the galleria. Will certainly be back, they validate parking too. That's always cool. Lost a star because they didn't really have much restaurants or places to eat or grab a snack. They also have an Asian market/grocery store, so if you want to grab groceries after checking the flea market, that's convenient.

I own three cats personally, so this was the main reason that I stopped in. But they also have really great clothing and a ton of cat themed items. I purchased a really awesome shirt and some pins and all cat dad related things. The lady behind the counter was also extremely polite and we enjoyed talking with her. Pricing was fair and parking in the area is fairly easy, there is free street parking on one of the side streets. I would highly recommend and plan to stop back in again in the future.
