If you are a knitting/crocheting addict like me, and prepared to travel on the number 8 bus to the unknown Clifton, which is in Swinton, which is in Pendlebury, then read on.
I've been going to Janet's lovely, cosy, small yarn shop since 2002. I came to England for the first time, I had neither coat nor sweater, it was raining cats and dogs for two weeks in a row, and I couldn't bring myself to buy a cardigan. I tried not to be too picky, but in 2002 cardigans looked awful. I wouldn't have such problem in 2010, but eight years ago Janet's shop came to my rescue. Within a week I made myself a sweater, and eight years later I'm still wearing it.
The two lovely elderly ladies specialise in wool and acrylic yarns, although it is possible to find cottons and even mohair there. They always have a good selection of model magazines, and are dedicated knitters themselves. Just as I can spend a small fortune browsing DVDs at HMV or books in MAGMA bookstore, so can I easily leave Janet's shop with loads of yarn.
And you know what? Last year I wanted to make a scarf for a special someone. They wanted it in black and pink. Without them telling me, I instantly knew what kind of pink they wanted. I went to Abakhan Fabrics but didn't find anything remotely similar. Then I went to Janet's and found exactly the colour I was after.
