Browsing at WH Smith couldn't be any further from browsing at bookstores like Waterstones. Whilst I'm usually spoilt for choice at the latter and come away wishing I had the pennies to buy another armful of new paperbacks, I struggle to find anything I want to read in Smiths!
It's not that this branch doesn't have any books, it's just books I have zero interest in reading. We're talking cheap and cheerful chick lit, Mills and Boon romances, mainstream thrillers and crime capers, science fiction adventures, teenage fiction and lots of sports and celebrity biographies.
In short, if you're after a book of stamps and The Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy (don't ask!), come here. If you're after a novel by Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, William Faulkner, F Scott Fitzgerald, Kurt Vonnegut, Jack Keraouc or Harper Lee, go to a bookstore run by book lovers. read more
