The physical space is bright and cheerful, the staff and teachers are welcoming and caring and there is a diverse and interesting community of students. It is professional and has a laid back and approachable vibe; no fancy yoga pants needed. I took my first class at the Center about 3 years ago and have been attending classes consistently since then. What I love about the Center's classes is the simplicity and authenticity of the practice. As other reviews here say it also, "this is the real deal." No other yoga has had such a profound effect on me "off the mat" as the Sivananda practice. I feel aligned and energized after each class and the effects of the class stick with me. I also recommend their courses and workshops. Taking the Yoga 1-3 courses is a great way to learn and advance through the class sequence. I also recommend the Positive Thinking and Meditation course. Attending this course (twice) has given me real, applicable techniques for feeling better and reducing the effects of stress "off the mat." I have also taken their vegetarian cooking workshops which were fun. Very hands on and great food to share at end.

Our 5 year old started nearly 2.5 years ago and we have been very happy with the program and what she has learned. She is not a dance pro but has basics down and still wants to go to class. She is super excited about her big show each year and is confident on a HUGE stage and being in front of people. She feels important and feels proud. I went to college with many ex dancers and have heard how awful balet can be and Gus has ballerina looking kids, smaller kids, bigger kids, boys who can dance, boys who can't dance and all kinds of kids all having fun. Her teachers Nicole Weingarten, Lauren and Amy have all been so sweet and amazing. I just cannot say enough about how thankful I am that they are in Andersonville and part of our community. I am not a person who intrinsically trusts people's intentions and I have made the mistake in the past of thinking nice people cannot really be that nice but these people really are. I have been late to pick up and they are amazingly nice. I am on the board for our school and they support our local school. These people are good even when they don't have to be. I appreciate them as a place that teaches children, as a local business and as a community member.

She explained everything clearly and went over all the products she'll be using during the process. The facial felt relaxing but also effective, my skin looked noticeably fresher afterward. What I loved most was how hydrated and smooth my skin felt immediately after. The products used didn't leave my face feeling heavy, burning or greasy, and my complexion looked more even and radiant. By the next day, my skin still felt soft and healthy, not just "temporary glow." Overall, it was a great experience and I'd definitely come back. Highly recommend 10/10.

I read about this place from Denyce M, another Yelp Elite. I was looking forward to getting spa…read moretreatment without the spa prices. They have several locations, but the one in Rogers Park is what I prefer. The website does not specify that Saturdays is WALK IN ONLY. I kept trying to do a waitlist, when finally they called me to say they cannot book on Saturdays, it is only walk in. They open at 9:30 and advised me to arrive by 9:15. I arrived at 9:15am on a Saturday. There was already a customer waiting. I walked in and the lady at the desk said they were open but no technicians were available at the moment. They come in as they please on Saturdays. I went to run an errand and left my number. I was not optimistic for a while, but after sitting inside and reading for half an hour or so some technicians came in. At some point 2 hair appointments were taken, and Melissa the student took me next. I explained I wanted a Spa pedicure and no chip manicure. She sounded a little unsure about the difference between regular and Spa Pedicures, but she had a very friendly demeanor. I went to the back room (no windows like where the hair salon is) and sat. I looked through the colors I wanted for each procedure. A few were on the wall, but most were in plastic storage bins. Melissa was careful with my feet, I liked the chair and warm water. She was fun to talk to and played calming sounds from her phone, as the music did not reach the back room. For my fingers I wanted Plum or dark red, but I chose a Mood Color, which changes when your temperature changes! I liked the color, she showed me on her phone what it looked like in hot vs cold water. She did well with moisturizing and trimming the cuticles, but the color went on a little uneven. I am not sure if this was the technique or the substance itself but I hoped it would even out later. I got a fall discount, so that was nice, and they asked me to consider a membership but I declined. There was a poster on the wall, in marker, of the procedure for a basic pedicure. I thought a school would at least have professionally printed instructions. I suggested they add more shelves to showcase the nail color and not have us look through bins, and Melissa agreed, but if they seem to do more hair than nails. I left and said everything was fine but I did mention the uneven coverage. About a day later a little polish chipped off my toenail, and after the 3rd or 4th day, I have lost 2 fill-ins! I would maybe go back if I make an appointment for a weekday and take a day off. Apparently Saturdays are make-up days for the technicians who want to earn extra hours.

Not reviewing his music (which was fantastic), but the venue. The room we were in was like a black box theater. The room was fairly small and intimate. It was open seating and when we arrived it was pretty full. We were very fortunate that there were two seats open in the third row. The room is acoustically sound (pun intended)... Seriously, being small, they really don't need to amplify the sound, even though they did have a microphone set up. As we were leaving, we got to roam the halls around the school. There were a lot of fun, vintage posters that were a lot of fun to look at. We met quite a few people who either had been students there, or were current students who had nothing but good things to say about the caliber of the educators and the Old Town School. Based on the performances we've seen there of students and faculty, I'd say we agree.

This update is regarding a visit to OSF was to attend their Wiggleworms open house. I've left the…read moreoverall rating the same because OTSFM is still great for a lot of reasons, but the Wiggleworms class isn't one of them. I've heard of the class before and always thought if I had a kid I'd take them, but I think the age range starts at 6 months so we started with a class with a different provider, Music Playhouse of Chicago. I'm glad we came to this one to try it out. While the kids seemed to be having fun, I didn't like it as much as the Music Playhouse class. Wiggleworms doesn't seem to have a developed curriculum. This was just an activity where the kids can grab shakers and toys, and the leader will sing what they want or take requests from the kids, but not a class that has any kind of particular learning outcomes upon which children build. Maybe it was different because it was an open house but I'd have expected they would showcase what an actual class was, and I think it's just not what I prefer. There are some pluses, though. They have weekend classes, which can be hard to find with other music classes for kids. I think it may also be significantly less expensive than the one I take my kiddo to. And they may have a few more babies-only classes than where we go now, which usually has only one of any (depending upon enrollment). I didn't realize before I had a child but there's a huge difference between children of 0-18 months and those beyond, so mixed age classes wasn't my thing at the time. So Wiggleworms has its pros, but overall I'd visit Old Town SFM for the classes and concerts but choose another children's music class.

Mixed Feelings :Great Start in Adult Group Level 1, But Disappointed in Level 2…read more I was genuinely excited to enroll in Level 2 swim lessons this year after having such a positive experience in Level 1. My coach in Level 1 was amazing, patient, encouraging, and I truly felt like I was learning and growing as a swimmer. Unfortunately, my Level 2 experience didn't live up to those expectations. On the first day, I was assigned to a coach , and it quickly became clear that he didn't have a structured plan in place. There were only two of us in the session, yet I felt like the other swimmer received the bulk of the attention. As someone who's still very much a beginner and working through things like fear of the deep end, I felt unseen and uncomfortable. Building trust and rapport in a learning environment like this is essential, and I didn't feel like that was prioritized. That said, I did appreciate that he introduced side swimming, which was a new and useful skill for me. So there were some moments of learning! During the second lesson, there was a new coach . Once again, I had to re-explain my swimming background. He was kind and acknowledged that he hadn't been given any info about the students beforehand, which explained some of the confusion. He reassured me that I belonged in Level 2, but I still felt mostly overlooked during the session as the more advanced swimmers got the majority of his attention. Because of these experiences, I ended up missing the final two classes;one due to travel, and the other because I just didn't feel comfortable returning. I didn't see the value in making up the missed session given how things had gone. While I'm grateful for the strong foundation I got in Level 1, my experience in Level 2 left me frustrated and disappointed. I'm sharing this review in hopes that the program improves communication as I emailed them my experience 07/06/2025 and haven't received any response yet and support for all swimmers, especially those still building confidence in the water.

The star rating is specifically for the portion of class I was able to attend. The class itself was…read moregreat, but the hassle and difficulty of getting/parking around here would make this otherwise a one star rating, as you can read below. I've been wanting to get my baby into swim lessons since about the time she was six months old, but just didn't get to it until now. They do offer infant lessons, so I signed up. I don't know that we'll be at the pool a lot, but I also recently started bathing her in the tub, and I want her to be safe there as well and decided it was time. Lakeside may be the closest swim option to us since it's maybe 10 minutes from my home and I've heard good things. I was really pleased that I was able to get in so easily--my friend is taking her son to swim lessons at another, more well-known brand of swim school, and it took her several weeks on the wait list to get in. The price is the best I've seen, and it's easy to register--I have been able to register just a few days before the class I wanted to attend, and for the baby lessons I didn't have to sign up for a month in advance or specific number of classes, which is a huge bonus. The instructor, Josie, was nice. I enjoyed our class a lot; it was small and the instructor was able to give us attention. The baby wasn't sure about being in the water, and got upset a bit (especially just as we were getting in), but she calmed as the lesson continued. The teacher sang some songs so we could bounce and sway and twirl. She showed me some techniques for getting the baby acclimated to the water and to entering the pool, and getting the baby's legs kicking (though she wasn't real keen on kicking at that point). I actually wanted to take adult swim lessons here too since they offer them. Unfortunately, as great as it was, I just can't continue paying $25-30 per class when out of the two we've signed up for, I've only been to half of one of them. Because of the parking (see further down), we weren't here until about halfway through the lesson, and the second class I signed up for we missed altogether though I left 20+ minutes early. By the time we got there, got her swim ready, and started heading toward the pool it just wouldn't be possible for me to get in with her in my arms for the last 10 minutes of class. And maybe it's still the pregnancy hormones but I was fighting back tears. So even though the class is easy to get into and the class size is great, I don't think that Lakeside works for me because I don't generally have time in the morning to leave an hour before class to make sure we can find parking. If I was in walking distance, this would hands down be my choice. Logistically, the address listed for the swim school is the Edgewater Athletic Club address, which for some reason is the Granville side. But don't let that fool you because the entrance is about halfway down the block on the Kenmore side of the building. The Edgewater Athletic Club has no access on the Granville side of the building. There's some parking across the street, though the lot is tiny and can be really hard to get parked into (it's a little narrow). The lot has 14 spaces, of which one is a disabled spot, shared with several businesses. But the lot is terrible. It's too small to have cars parked in straight, as it's currently designed, though I know they do it because it allows for more cars than diagonal parking does. But the parking lot isn't even wide nights three cars would fit if parked bumper to bumper, so getting in and out is not for the faint of heart (and if you don't like parallel parking this would probably stress you out). I waited for another car to leave so that I could pull out more easily since they came out a couple minutes after we got into the car. In theory, there's lots of street parking, which one may think would easier when Loyola is out since the dorms are only a couple blocks away but you'd be wrong. I've never seen apartment buildings with driveways in Chicago the way they are in this area; along Kenmore almost all of them have them, so what you think may be a spot is actually the driveway for apartment parking. I can't help but wonder if some of the cars belong to students who don't move them often. And if the parking is that bad in the morning, I think it would be worse in the evening so I think I need to continue looking for adult lessons, too.
