Jan Witkowski is a PsyD (psychologist) who has offices in Encino and Beverly Hills for her private practice. She also works at Bridges to Recovery in Beverly Hills. Made an appointment to speak to her to ask some questions before deciding if she's a good fit. But, like everything else, as a consumer & prospective client, you make assessments of the business professional from the first conversation. So, I started with the first talk. That is what all reputable therapists and doctors advise. When we spoke, she didn't want any questions asked of her or her professional experience. It was so painful for her to answer any questions about her professional experience!!! It was like pulling teeth. For someone who's been practicing for 16 years in California, her answers were quite odd and curt and abbreviated. Her response to my question about her experience in a certain area of psychology was so odd. It was very evident that she was not comfortable with my very legitimate and valid questions. Her exact response was, " I usually don't get asked questions about me. It's usually about the client. Obviously, I'm in this field for a reason." As if the public is supposed to assume something special about her??? Does she get a special pass??? Not only did she not want to answer my questions- they were too painful for her to answer - she was dismissive and pretended like she knew what she was talking about in a certain area when she doesn't. As consumers of services, each one of us has a right and a responsibility to ourselves to do our due diligence, that includes asking the right questions of doctors, psychologists, and any professional, to make sure they are someone we want to hire. As an educated consumer, I found her responses to be arrogant and rude. Psychologists are on the top 10 career list of narcissists. Yet, because I'm looking for a consultation, giving therapist a chance. It is truly a disappointment to come across someone like her in the industry. read more
