Having eaten a meal at Jamie's Italian tonight, I can safely say we will not bother to return. After a day of shopping, this restaurant seemed to be a good option: it's a chain and service and food should be pretty standardised. We were tired and just wanted a decent meal somewhat quickly. We were sat promptly which was nice; however the first server we had had difficulty explaining the specials and had to ask another server to take over. Having worked in restaurants, we weren't bothered by this and happily placed our order. Our drinks and bread came quite quickly; however my young son spilled the olive oil and we immediately asked for a towel. No one came back with one, leaving my husband with a handful of oil. Finally, the same woman we'd asked for a towel brought in other diners and must have remembered us as she sent in a young girl with a tea towel. It was too late as we'd already used our napkins and my husband had left to wash his hands. After waiting for around 45 minutes for our main course, whilst watching literally everyone who'd come in after us in our section being served their food, I asked where ours was. The server assured me it was only '3 minutes away' (we'd only ordered pasta and one risotto special). Another 10 minutes and the chef brought it out sans apologies. The food was decent, nothing exciting, but nothing to complain about either. By this time we finished our food and just wanted to go home. We asked for the bill, received it quite quickly, then proceeded to wait for another 20 or so minutes for her to take our card. I think it's important to note that we came to the restaurant at 4.45 pm as we knew it wouldn't be busy (it wasn't). This was an annoying experience and with the amount of lovely choices for restaurants in York, it ensures we won't be returning to this one. read more
