James Thomas Long was our wedding photographer on April 20, 2019 at the Westin Hotel in San Francisco. We found James while searching for our wedding venue and fell in love with his pictures posted on the site. We were so lucky James was available on our wedding day! Through our whole experience working with James, he was always professional and responded promptly to all of our questions and concerns. He is warm, friendly and has a cheerful personality. James shot our engagement shoot at the Presidio in San Francisco. It was a cold and rainy day, but the weather didn't prevent James from trampling in the mud to capture the best shots. It was also a pleasant coincidence that James had already worked with our videographers as well! James worked with us to help develop a detailed timeline for our wedding day. He provided suggestions and feedback, which greatly helped ease many of our anxieties with the planning process. On our wedding day, we were very happy with how James was able to capture so many candid shots. Per my request, James was able to provide us with a few edited images the week after our wedding, so we could create a thank you card for our guests. We contacted James to do a photo session for our baby daughter's first birthday, and we absolutely loved the shots! As another person commented, it's difficult to explain this in words, but his use of environmental lighting (he is very thoughtful about location and time of day), and depth of field make for very warm looking shots. We had a brief meeting beforehand to make sure everyone is more or less aligned on expectations; I really appreciated his detailed insights and recommendations as to what would (or would not) be good to wear. As good as it gets for sure! I'm one of his biggest fans. During both of our sessions (Engagement and Wedding) James and Thuy made both my wife and I so comfortable. For being typically nervious subjects in front of the lens, James has a way of loosening us up with very genuine encouragements. James did an engagement session for us in the spring, then shot our wedding this summer. We looked at the portfolios of over 30 photographers, from that set interviewed 5 to 10 in more detail. James is one of the few reasonably priced photographers that not only has beautiful portfolio shots, but huge stunning sets from every event. James really is as good as it gets. We hired him to take our wedding photos and ended up getting engagement photos done as well. He called several days before our engagement session to go over details of the location, type of shots we wanted, clothing choices, etc. He paid attention to every little detail so that he was completely prepared for the photo shoot. He did the same for our wedding, except IN PERSON ON SITE so that we could do a trial run! Talk about dedication! The day of, James was fun to work with, he was natural and casual, but also paid attention to the time so that we could get all of the shots we wanted. We wanted to hire James to do our family photos for the holidays but he was completely booked and so we waited until he was available in January. I fell in love with the photos on his blog and I was so happy when he said he was willing to drive from Fremont to Salinas to do our family photo shoot. He was a little late to our session which I was not happy about (due to traffic), but it all worked out. He made up for it by taking some amazing photos and the quality of his prints are top notch. He is a bit on the pricier side, but I think it's all worth it because he truly creates works of art. Every session I leave believing that my kids' antics have made it impossible for us to have a single good photo of our family and yet every year he manages to exceed expectations. It's tough to find the words to describe how amazing James is. We had him photograph our wedding in San Francisco. Our ceremony was in a beautiful church and our reception was at the Westin, and we also took the wedding party around on a trolley in between. James truly captured every moment and I have never seen photos so stunning. My family and friends said that the photographs look like a Vogue magazine! James truly cares about you, and he left no detail untouched. He blew me away with aerial shots from way up in the church, and captured so many joyous moments of laughter at our wedding. Unreliable and unprofessional! I wish I could give him no stars. We signed a contract with James few months ago for our engagement/ wedding shot and specifically told him that I want our engagement shot on the same day with my wedding makeup trial. He accepted it, got the deposit and we signed the contract. A week before the trial date, my fiancé emailed him to map out our locations. He simply responded that he won't able to make it due to moving situation!!!!!! SO IF WE DIDN'T CONTACT HIM THERE WAS NO WAY FOR US TO KNOW HE WAS GOING TO FLAKE ON US. This is after I paid extra fee to rush my wedding gown alteration for the engagement/pre wedding pictures that we agreed on. Also the $240 that I spend for my make-up trail went to waste, thanks to James. He possibly made another deal which made ours not important enough to keep. read more

We were really happy to have James as our wedding photographer. He is a top-tier photographer. We will definitely go back to James for future events. 1. James is always passionate about his work. During our engagement session and wedding, even after many hours of photo shooting, James still seemed energetic and keeps looking for great spots for taking pictures. He took thousands of pictures and never looked tired. 2. James' pictures are of top quality. The photos are very crispy and clear, taken at great angles with nice lightings.
