June 2019
Benicia G.

This review is long over due. And boy do I really wish I had wrote this sooner. As I see how much it had traumatized my now 7 year old with her current swimming lessons. In June of 2019 I had enrolled my 4 year old for swimming classes in the city of Azusa. She was so excited to attend but that was the first and last week she attended. During a lesson of getting the children to dunk their heads in the water. One idiot life guard saw that my child was crying and refused to dunk her head but decided to take it upon herself to hold my child with her and dunk her anyway. Being pregnant at the time and sick I was shocked that the lifeguard did that and being a first time mom didn't know if this was how they taught kids? Now that I have attended other recreation parks I see that the instructors are professional and don't want the kids to fear the water and let them get comfortable first before attempting to move on. If you are a parent do yourself a favor and take them elsewhere. She has loved city of covina and San dimas swim and racquetball. I could not thank them enough for being patient with my daughters fear.

This is a review of the City Swim lessons offered at this facility…read more My kids ages 6 and 4 now have been taking summer classes here since they were 6mos old. We are not local residents and actually live 2 towns over, but we make the drive for how consistent the classes are. They are also a great value, when you compare it to other places (YMCA). Mommy and Me classes are basic: nursery rhyme singing, blowing bubbles, floating, kicking etc. Great introduction for tots and babies. The value really is in familiarizing the kids with water. (I only saw the value recently, now that my kids are older and accustomed to swimming with instructors etc). We did private swim, one week for $99 (M-F 30mins sessions each day. One on one with a swim instructor) two summers ago, and we saw a BIG improvement in our son's performance. He had learned ice scream scoops and kicking well. Good knowledge base at 4.5 years old, but still needed close supervision while in the pool. Last summer, we invested in two weeks of private swim per child, and it was very expensive but worth every cent. The two weeks really reinforced technique and now my son is a confident swimmer. My daughter has a great foundation, and perhapds this summer she will master it as well. I saw the most progress in private swim since the attention is fully on the child and not split amongst multiple kids. All the instructors have been wonderful, knowledgeable, patient, and work well with kids.

As someone who travels extensively & has been to many pools, in many states with my kid, this was…read morehands down the worst! Went for the recreation swimming, complete waste of time & money, thankfully it was only $5, so not much money wasted. Swimming facilities are ok, nothing special. But if your young child can't swim yet, don't even bother wasting your time. They micromanage you with a bunch of rules. No life jackets allowed which is INSANE. Front desk lady tried to gaslight me & say that's a normal policy in most places which it is NOT. She needs to get out more. I've been all across the country & not one other places I've been to has ever had that rule, in fact it's the opposite in most places--non-swimmers are REQUIRED to wear them. So basically my kid couldn't do anything but sit there hanging on the edge of the pool. I tried to walk around the pool with her on my back, again, like I do everywhere else & they said I can't do that either. I couldn't swim cuz I had to watch my child at all times just hanging on the edge of the pool. Not fun at all. Locked rooms are only 18+, so couldn't use that either cuz my kid is with me. Just a bunch of pointless weird rules & micromanaging that doesn't exist anywhere else I've ever seen. Save your money & time & go somewhere else. We ended up just going to raging waters where we have season passes, she can wear life jackets allowed, & we have way more fun.

They have been coming here since they were all 9months old. Throughout the years my older boys joined the San Dimas swim team which is so awesome and a great team. Now my last little Liam, is finally ready to be in a competitive team all thanks to the LA county life guards at San Dimas.

This positive review is specifically for Coach Vayda. We…read moreallotted only 5 lessons with waterworks through my daughters homeschool charter and in those mere 5 lessons Vayda has done TREMENDOUS work with my daughter. She has a positive but firm demeanor. She is EXTREMELY patient and kind. My daughter went from lookin like a drowning starfish to a strong, controlled swimmer. Granted she still has a way to go but considering shes only had a few lessons I am just extremely impressed with how much she's improved and I feel that's a direct statement on how Vayda teaches. If you were on the fence about trying waterworks I can definitely say that Coach Vayda made this a worthwhile endeavor and if shes still with waterworks next year I may opt to re enroll my daughter for more lessons. Thank you Vayda for doing what you do. We appreciate you!

My 5 year old has been receiving lessons for the past year and she absolutely loves going to swim class, and that's all thanks to Ms. Sarah. Ms. Sarah is kind, patient, engaging, and really understands how to work with young children. Every lesson is fun, intentional, and structured - with feedback and a recap towards the end of class. I've been so impressed with how much confidence and skill my child has gained in the water during this time.
