I first came here to see if it was worth going, and I told them that I wanted a low-taper fade, but that was far from it. I live near by and thought I would try this salon. They had good reviews and I know someone that used to go hear when the older man used to run it. I was politely greeted when I entered the front door and asked if I needed a haircut. A very nice lady named Hannah walked me to her station where she proceeded to give me a fantastic haircut. She then washed my hair and have me a scalp massage. We returned to her station where she did a final touch up and applied some hair gel. Hannah did a great job and was very friendly. I was welcomed upon entering by the staff! I came Friday afternoon before it got busy with a few waiting customers. Huong was my stylist and she was so sweet! She carefully washed my hair and cut exactly the length I asked. You know how some ladies get scissor happy? I was referred to this place. Came in on a hot weekend but was relieved to find the place had air conditioning that worked unlike most business places around the area. Decor is nice and everything looks new. I was greeted with a smile by the receptionist when I walked in. She let me know the wait would only be a few minutes as someone was being finished up. I had Tien. She's bilingual in English and Vietnamese and knows what she is doing. She understood what I wanted and got right to work. Lines are clean and she's very thorough. For the past couple years, I've been bouncing between barber/salons/friends for haircuts. One random day, I saw James Salon on yelp and walked in, kinda nervous. Who's gonna cut my hair and are they gonna do a good job? I walk in, and I instantly bump into my korean friend Danny and his two kids who were getting hair cuts as well! AWESOME! I hadn't seen him in years but I trust his judgment bc he's a doctor. So if a korean doctor goes here, it must be good, right? A vietnamese lady anoints herself as the tribute to cut my hair and I'm like okay sure, what do I have to lose. I sit down in the chair, and she wraps that blanket around my neck and says, "What you want today?" I point to a picture of an undercut and a 2 fade on the side, and she nodded. She begins cutting my hair swiftly and carefully. I was surprised. She was done in 10 minutes. I was like DANG. The sides are perfectly faded and the top was cut at proper length. They even give you a free hair wash and they do this cool massage on your hair. Felt like I was on Cloud 9. As I was getting my hair washed, my korean doctor friend Danny said, "hey Kev, I got you, it was great seeing you!" Dang, that's how I know this is the right place. You come in to a new salon, bump into a friend, get your first haircut paid for. I'm sure this can happen to you too! haha, but anyways, if you come here, ask for Valerie, she was the one who cut my hair! I'm a new man now. I'm getting married in 2 months. I was in need of a desperate haircut It was a Saturday and my hair stylish kept canceling on me or wanted me to wait. I left and called James Salon and was told they can cut my hair =). I came and a lady took me to the hair washing area and shampooed and conditioned my hair. It was pretty fast. There really wasn't a head massage but I was rushing. Then she blew dried my hair and a fellow came to cut it. He asked me what I wanted and I was specific. He was fast and it turned out perfect, just a trim, relayering, and redo my long bangs. I was shocked to find my total was only $17. I gave him a good tip and left happy. The salon is very small in a small plaza, next to a liquor store. There's probably only about 6 chairs. It's clean inside and they use It's a Ten, a product my mom swears by. Overall I was happy and this will be my new hair place from now on. read more

I originally planned on getting my hair cut from Adam's Salon in Garden Grove because of their stellar reviews, but his receptionist was incompetent on the phone. They acted too good to talk to me and it took a lot of miscommunication to figure out that they had no open appointments and the receptionist didn't speak English. Even when I switched to Vietnamese, the receptionist was flustered and basically hung up. (I'm fluent but I guess he wasn't fluent in either language?) So I called James Salon. I was desperate to cut my hair or I was going to shave it off. The receptionist here didn't speak English well either, but she was pleasant and ended up handing the phone over to James himself. He told me I could walk in whenever I wanted and that the place wasn't busy at all. I hopped into my car and got there about 15 mins after the call. James and his hair people were expecting me (& a friend), which was nice. No wait! His ladies went right to work washing my hair. The two ladies blow dried my hair and straightened it... THEN James cut it. They explained to me that cutting hair dry makes more sense because that's how your hair is 90% of the time. If you cut it wet, the hair will dry and shrink up/curl or whatever, and it'll be different than intended. Makes sense to me. I was concerned that they'd try to charge me more, as many places often do, for the blow drying and straightening, but they didn't. They said its all part of the technique of cutting hair and they're not there to swindle people out of money by throwing product into their hair. Anyway, James looked briefly at a few pictures I brought along and set to work. His hands were very delicate and careful; you could tell that hair cutting was an art form, not just a job. He snipped until he thought it was perfect and he was personally satisfied with his work. He was able to keep the length in my hair and texturized it so it would be lighter. I felt like I was bald afterwards because my head felt so light, yet my hair is still down to my waist. Magic. Meanwhile, my friend got her bright purple hair cut and James was in love with it. He cutely asked her to pose with him for a picture. :) $17 for a woman's haircut (long hair) and that includes washing, drying, straightening, cutting, and a little bit of styling. This salon is within biking distance of my apartment, and I decided to give it a try. Many of the other "cheap" salons in the area, the employees speak very little English, and since I'm not Vietnamese, what I want for a haircut always gets lost in translation. A lady named Thien cut my hair, and I am so happy with it! I have very dense, straight hair. My hair wet is about 2 inches longer than it is dry, so when I get a haircut, it must be cut dry or I risk getting a cut that is much too short. This is the first salon I've been to that did not argue with me about how I needed my hair cut. Also, I requested blunt bangs, and she obliged!! All the other salons I've been to have always argued with me that I should go with side-swept bangs, and when I would say no, they would deliberately mess up my bangs. My hair is past my shoulders and the cut was only $15 - $17 if I had it shampooed prior to cutting. She cleaned up the layers in my hair, texturized it, thinned it out and straightened it. He got a barber who isn't James (forgot his name), but he was fast and the hair looks good. Overall the place looks very clean and they have a lot of workers there.
