Doctor Hoff was my Primary care physician since age 14. He was my dad's physician before that. He was my grandfathers for 10 years or so after grandparent moved to Lodi. Dr. Hoff has one positive attribute which is also a negative. He has great bedside manners at least according to my Dad and grandfather. Patients trust he has their best interests based on this bedside manner . My experience: I can't go into detail as I don't want my medical history posted online, but experience was poor. Two conditions I had. One, I suffered for 10 years until finding what it was. To his credit, I left out a lot of very important details.But he should have asked questions. I was only 14 and symptoms happened 6 weeks after a significant injury. The other incident required surgery after CAT scan results. I had to demand to see a specialist. When Specialist confirmed my self diagnosis through CAT scan, I dropped Dr. Hoff as my personal physician. My Dad: He had A blood disorder that after a year and a half turned into acute leukemia and died 6 months after diagnosis. Not sure how he was diagnosed with the blood disorder but I think it was through blood tests. Dad had lesions or sores on his face that DR. Hoff tried to incompetently and painfully remove. After numerous visits and feeling worse, a nurse in Dr.Hoffs office according to my mother pleaded with her to take him to a specialist and gave her a recommendation. My dad went to a specialist in San Francisco a few months before he got Leukemia, but by that time it was too late to stop progression of blood disorder to Leukemia. This boils my blood as dad was very trusting and I'm sure he thought DR.Hoff was doing what was best for him. Nope! Grandad's experiment: A year or 2 after my dad passed, grandad developed lung cancer. He never smoked. He had a huge tumor about the size of a golf ball. He had visited Dr.Hoff numerous times after throwing up and feeling sick. Dr. Hoff did not take him serous. After my dad's experience, I pleaded with my grandfather to see a specialist. I think it was my grandmother that made him demand more tests. He finally demanded tests and it was shown that he had a huge tumor. If it was caught earlier, he might have lived another 10 years like my grandmother who was the same age. The reason many doctors try to keep everything in house is due to the business relationship between Doctors and Health Insurance. Doctors are rewarded with perks or bonuses essentially for cutting costs, which usually means not sending to expensive specialists or getting expensive tests. Grandpa really liked Dr. Hoff and loved that he listened to his stories about his prior accomplishments which were many. That created a lot of Trust for Dr.Hoff. A trust that was misplaced. This man saved my husbands life! When my husband was close to death, I wanted to get him the best care so I chose to go with MDVIP so he could get the individual care he needed. Dr Hoff diagnosed him right away and worked very hard to get him the life saving help that he needed. If it was not for Dr Hoff, I totally believe that my husband would not be with us today!. By far the best Dr that I have ever experienced!! We have been out of the area for the last year with work and had to go to another Dr in a group. He has done nothing to help my husband sustain all the good work that Dr Hoff has done. Its hard to find a Dr that actually cares about their patients these days instead of how many patients they can see in a day. MVIP concierge medical care Dr. James S. Hoff 999 S Fairmont Ave #135, Lodi, CA 95240 MDVIP website sold me concierge medical services for $1800/year with Dr. James S. Hoff as the local physician. My American Express card was charges June 24, 2015. I sent complete medical records going back almost 10 years by July 14. These included recent lab results from April, 2015 and previous physician's records of medications prescribed. MDVIP sent me a welcome letter with the MDVIP membership card. MDVIP sales people assured me the doctor would refill existing prescriptions. My quarterly synchronized refills from April were due for refills. I faxed in the July order to the pharmacy with a copy for Dr. Hoff. But then a front office woman emailed telling me to pickup and hand carry prescriptions to pharmacy. This would mean I'd have to drive 85 miles total -- just to serve as a delivery person. I informed her I had *never* hand carried prescriptions because I'm disabled with painful orthopedic issues, etc. Later I phoned Dr. Hoff to discuss this and soon the conversation turned into his angry rant over frustration with insurance cutbacks, "Obama Care", the new electronic records requirements, etc. His angry diatribe was, in my opinion, a textbook definition of "Physician burnout" which is now reported to be affecting 50% of doctors! The Internet is loaded with articles about this. After that phone call-- during which Dr. Hoff went ballistic about Obama Care and insurance company cutbacks -- Costco Pharmacy faxed me this message -- "Dr. James Hoff has cancelled all your prescriptions..." He cancelled my diabetes and blood pressure meds?! I had paid for his MDVIP service back in June, sent complete medical records to his office, been assured by MDVIP sales reps that my existing medications would be renewed...but then Hoff cancels them?! When I phoned him he hung up the moment I spoke my name. I called MDVIP --but only sales rep "Jamar" was available. He could not put a management person on the line. Jamar promised "someone" would call me --but they never did. I faxed several letters to MDVIP only to receive silence -- no response whatsoever. I checked American Express online and found MDVIP kept the first month's payment ($150/mn) but refunded future months August and September. That means Dr. Hoff was paid for his July service when he also received all my medical records. I believe Hoff made a "breach of contract" by cancelling my existing prescriptions. Worst experience I've ever had with an MD. I can't forget that phone call listening to Dr. Hoff's anger at "Obama Care" and insurance cutbacks. But concierge medical care is supposed to be about providing excellent, personalized care for the client. The website promises - "MDVIP started as an idea sparked in the minds of a few visionary doctors who were seeking to rekindle their passion for medicine ...who believed the healthcare system had lost its way." Whoa! I don't believe Dr. Hoff is rekindling his passion for medicine -- I think he lost his way, not just the "healthcare system." Why did I get into this mess? My physician of 20 years died of cancer. When I switched to a new one the medical care was run by front office people who are not doctors, and who blocked communication with the actual MD. Concierge care is intended to give the patient direct communication with their physician, and a higher level of care. My doctor who died spoiled me with a standard of care I have not yet been able to replace. Dr. Hoff and MDVIP was a "wrong turn down the wrong road..." What kind of MD would leave a 65 year old diabetic without heart medication and diabetes medications? MDVIP took my money, sent me a membership card, the doctor received complete medical records, and I had been assured my existing prescriptions would be honored. James Hoff has been my personal physician for over 40 years. My husband had been seeing him for 20 years. We love this man and his practice. When his office switched to the MD-VIP program we were happy to continue with him. The quality of the testing is par none. Waiting room wait times have been reduced to 5 minutes. His ability to spend more time with patients and really listen to their concerns has only increased, due to more time allowed per patient. He understands our needs and our limitations having no rx insurance and has always worked with us to make sure we find the most affordable solution to prescription care. In short. Very similar experience as the other 1 star rating by Verne R. Completely unprofessional. I have several chronic issues, some long term (10+ years), some that were diagnosed about 2 years ago. The doctor who "babied" me retired. I don't like the "Kaiser System" that the medical profession has taken as a role model. 3 separate appointments at 3 separate facilities (some too far for me to drive to by myself) for the same issues my previous MD, and I, had managed all by ourselves. I have PPO coverage and can go to any neurologist, pain management specialist, etc without a referral. I did so for more than three months, searching for that "personal" touch. Every GOOD doctor I inquired with wasn't taking new patients, or was in the process of retiring. I'd been deemed totally, and permanently, disabled by my previous MD. He worked with me to find the MINIMUM amount of medications for me to take to be able to (marginally) function, without getting totally overwhelmed, by the many appointments and treatments I need to deal with. I don't like to take meds of any kind and finding myself in this situation was hard for me. So I gave MDVIP a shot. My pain was worsening despite massage therapy, my chiropractor (both are amazing by the way...they kept me in a better state of mind than any previous supporting caregivers have), and hypnotherapy (to try and control my pain with an alternative method) attempting to get off those horrible chemicals that deteriorate your body and mind. For many years I've wished they had ANY medication that would relieve pain without the ugly side effects of morphine, methadone, or fentanyl type treatments. I made an immediate appointment, to see Dr. Hoff, to inform him that my pain was getting worse again. Once I returned to work it hit home just how disabled I truly was. He ignored my previous Doctor's records about the fact that I was totally, and permanently, disabled and that he had released me back to work, against his better judgement. I didn't have a choice. No one to submit the paperwork for my disability. Going back to work had tripled my pain, and aggravated all of my other conditions, as well. You can read the other review...very much the same ranting making absurd observations, yelling, etc. Hasn't cancelled my previously prescribed meds yet, but now I'm scared after reading that other review. I check the website daily to verify. After the unprofessional behavior of Dr. Hoff I decided to try and find someone who is a better fit. Friends have warned me that this could "appear" as Doctor Shopping, which I've been told, is common among drug addicts. I had Kaiser for 7 years, ended up with hearing loss because they misdiagnosed my issue 3 times before getting me to the specialist. I then went to my current insurance (PPO) for the past 2 years or so. Kaiser had changed my primary care physician 3-5 times, and I didn't have the trouble I've had with Dr. Hoff. I never thought that I'd miss Kaiser. I now have an appointment with the VERY FIRST MD I'd tried to get in with 5 months ago, he wasn't taking patients at that time but, there must be an Angel watching over me, because I called that office back hoping for ANY other Doctor and SURPRISE!! The Doctor, I had wanted in the beginning, had only just opened up to new patients for a short window of time. Once is a fluke, twice is a warning. Don't waste your money. Keep looking.
