Most recently, my 9-year-old Shih Tzu mix had a dental cleaning, and Dr. Rucker was amazing. He kept me updated on his dental health, explained everything clearly, and gave great advice on how to take care of his teeth moving forward. It really made me feel confident that my dog was in great hands. You can tell the team truly cares about the animals they treat. I'm very grateful for the care they've given my dogs over the years. Highly recommend Dr. Rucker Dr. Haddock Dr.Washington and the entire staff!

He cries if they take too long to come and get him out of the car. Everyone loves him and takes such good care of him. When the pandemic started, they changed operating procedures to keep their staff safe, which meant that parents couldn't go in with their fur babies. I was concerned that he would be scared and was nervous about not being able to be with him. The vets always come out to the car to let me know what's going on and what they're doing for him, to hear any concerns I may have, and to communicate to ensure that we're on the same page. A few weeks ago, we saw some of the staff members out in public. They recognized Orson and he was giving them so many kisses. It was just more reassurance that they were taking great care of my baby. We've been with this location for 2 years and have even left him for doggy day care a few times; I drive from Bartlett to take him Downtown for his appointments. He's always been happy to go back, whether to play or get shots, and it makes me so happy to know they're taking care of all of their patients with love.

I've been taking pets to Walnut Grove since the early'90s, and have been very happy with the…read moreservice they provide. There are definitely vets I prefer, but they are all good. I've had MANY dogs and cats treated, as I fostered for years, so I can definitely speak to their quality. One of the things that touches me is that the staff & vets always remembers my various pets, and it often feels like Norm at Cheers when we're there. They genuinely act excited & happy to see my four legged companions! Six years ago, we dealt with the trauma of having my 7 year old soul pup diagnosed first with cancer of the spleen (which weighed 10 pounds & was the size of a mini basketball). Dr. Slattery did an amazing job of safely removing it (which would be beyond the skills of many vets). Dexter didn't even need a transfusion! Dr. Slattery suspected extremely aggressive (and deadly) hemangiosarcoma, but Dexter couldn't be treated with chemotherapy because the pathology report was inconclusive. It was SO traumatic! Dr. Slattery saved the day (again) by coming up with a treatment protocol that helped Dex survive for another precious 18 months. (This diagnosis generally either is found when the dog drops dead or has a maximum survival of 6 weeks.) He referred me to an acupuncturist & Chinese herbalist, told me about to find a beneficial anti-cancer diet, and prescribed medications to help Dexter medically. He was with us every step of the way, and clearly was sad that we couldn't save him. Dex had all the support he needed to continue playing athletic fetch daily and ate very well until the last two days before we had to let him go. Now Dexter was VERY tough, smart, & determined to stay with our family as long as he possibly could as he was the heart of it, so YMMV. Dr. Slattery tried a Hail Mary exploratory surgery on his last day, and said Dexter had cancer everywhere & he had never seen so much in any dog. He didn't know how Dex had still been playing enthusiastically & eating well the day before. I think it was definitely a credit to Dr. Slattery's efforts that Dexter survived so long. The prices at the clinic have definitely increased significantly since Dr. Halford's son took over practice management. Maybe he doesn't appreciate how expensive it is to take good care of your beloved animal companions? I have definitely sacrificed things I personally needed in order to pay for vet care for my precious cats & big dogs at this clinic. In their defense, though, I haven't found any inexpensive vets & I don't want the ones who finished at the bottom of their classes, so I think you get what you pay for in most cases. I do wish they'd moderate the prices of office visits & nail trims, though. Conclusion (if anyone reads this far!): I strongly recommend Walnut Grove as your vet. They truly care & have taken excellent care of over 40 pets of mine (foster & permanent family members). They do very well with both cats & dogs.

I took my dog (and subsequent foster dogs) there over the course of the four years I lived in Memphis. My dog, Tikva, has some pretty intense stranger danger but immediately loved the owner Kathy and her daughter Lana. We also loved Emma and Lillian, and the rest of the staff. They always put her needs first and never pushed her out of her comfort zone. I always got amazing personalized communication (and cute pics) from them. I really appreciate how they offer solo daycare/boarding to accommodate her issues. The extended hours are also a big plus! My dog LOVED going to River Dog Inn. I wish I could've taken them with me when I moved! We miss you!!

They were able to offer daily reports on our pup and she had a great experience when she boarded there, as well. Maggie is high energy and honestly difficult at times, but they handled her so well! They all knew her by name quickly. I could give story after story of how helpful they were, but I will just select a few. 1. Our dog had some issues going to the bathroom due to her long hair one day and needing groomed. Long story short, the owner gave her a sanitary trim without being asked! 2. I had a few last minute scenarios where Maggie needed boarded at the 11th hour, and they were always caring and happy to accommodate. 3. They shared which toys Maggie liked so we could purchase them. 4. They cared for Maggie like family! I cried when we said our goodbyes!! They also took interest in us, which was so kind! If you are in Memphis and need a doggie daycare-look no further. Seriously, we had the very best experience and are so sad to be moving to another state because we no longer get to be patrons of this establishment! We will miss River Dog Inn and cannot praise them enough!!!
