OK no problem showed up on time and was checked in after a half hour wait I checked to see if I had the wrong time "no" Continued to wait after the hour was up asked them to check and see how long it would be .I was informed that doctor never comes to this office. How would know that? I was given the appoiontment and directions but could go the the other location to see if they could fit me in. I declined. Just spent 45 minutes trying to make another appointment I was #2 in the Q until I was not and could go on line and make an appointment. My bet is the physicians think all runs smoothly but it is not and they never see the evals. No service no matter how good the practicionars might be in the office poor service and poor medical care.

I brought my husband to Achilles Foot and Ankle because it seemed like a reputable company that…read morecared about its patients, but it seems like that is not correct. The podiatrist we saw was great. They took X-rays of his feet and the doc talked us into a custom orthotic called "the gauntlet". He has a fracture in his foot and this was described as the best option for his foot. The only other option described was surgical fusion of the bones in his foot and ankle, with one year being out of work. The brace was described as being thin, carbon fiber and lightweight, where it would fit in his shoes without issue and would just keep his ankle from moving and his foot from rolling due to flat feet. I had to pay $800 up front for the brace to be ordered and it took from his initial appointment on 4/30 until today (6/8) for it to come in. We were excited and hopeful, until we saw the brace. The brace that was described as thin and lightweight didn't even fit inside his shoe. His foot moved a ridiculous amount inside the brace and in several spots did not even touch the brace. The tech who was initially putting the brace on even said that it didn't appear to support the foot/ankle at all, and she was right. The second tech came in and put his sock on with the brace over it, then tried to force the brace down into his shoe, causing the part of the shoe around the back of the foot to become misshaped and tired the shoe like it would do something. The physicians assistant finally came in and basically said they could take more measurements and send it back to the manufacturer and they could modify it and it might make improvements. When we asked for a refund, there PA said that they could refund it but she had to get the person from the front desk to complete the refund. Then the "owner" of the business came in and said they will not refund any custom orthotics. He has a masters degree in business but no knowledge of podiatry, orthotics or anything else. He is simply a money man. He showed us a document that my husband electronically signed before he ever saw anyone that states "Custom orthotics are tailored to meet individual needs; custom items such as orthotics or custom braces are non-returnable, non-refundable." This was not reviewed at the time the brace was ordered, only prior to checking in to see anyone. He also refused to let us see the podiatrist that sold us the brace. When the PA came back in again to re-measure his foot for the brace they ordered that did not work, she informed us that it would be a $50 Copay for each and every visit, even if the measurements they took this time didn't work either. At this point, we cut our losses and left the office. Please don't make the same mistake we made. Get a second opinion and stay away from this business. It should have told us a lot when there are no pictures in the rooms and there cabinet is a tool box to hold supplies.

I think that I like The Foot Center. I went to the office in Colonial Heights to get a second…read moreopinion. The doctor that I saw was named John Swangim. I also took my father to see John. My father loved John who removed corns/calluses from his feet. He experienced immediate relief and could walk without limping. John also suggested a larger width shoe for my dad to wear, special compression socks and the need to wear footwear in the house and suggested certain brands of shoes for my dad to wear. John printed out checklist for the shoes as well as providing a written list of stores in the Richmond area that carry these particular shoes. I had an extremely hard time finding those shoes because my dad's feet are so small. Eventually, I found a pair that fit and my Dad is very pleased. I went to John because I thought I had plantar warts. John took great care of me as well suggesting things that I could do to alleviate the pain caused by these calluses and corns on my feet and confirmed that I did not have plantar warts. He also suggested that I try out laser treatments for 6 weeks to determine if this treatment would help with the overall health of my feet due to walking on concrete floors at work and arthritis in my feet. I misunderstood the purpose of the laser treatment, thinking that it was some type of procedure done with laser to remove the roots of the calluses in the ball of my feet to stop the pain when I walk. I found the bedside manner of the technician, Mary, to be rather brusque and defensive. She took issue with my questions, concerns and statements by accusing me of saying that she was unqualified to do her job and opened the door so that she would have witnesses concerning my negative behavior toward. Her manner caused me great stress and I ended up in tears. It was a very stressful time for me. Of course, after I began crying she changed her tune quickly. After I went for the second appointment, I decided not to go anymore. My chiropractor provides the same services and is extremely kind and caring, always ready to answer my questions outside of the box. I am very knowledgeable about my body, my issues and how I respond to pain. I always ask many questions. It seemed to me that Mary had a nice, memorized script to explain the procedure that she provided, giving little opportunity to talk and discuss my out of box situation. She seemed irritated that I would interrupt her presentation by chiming in with questions for clarification. I learned nothing new from her and unfortunately, did not feel comfortable to speak very much for fear of offending her again. She was not interested in learning about my medical history. She just wanted to say what she had to say. When she made suggestions for items to purchase and exercises to do that would help improve the health of my feet, I asked for a printout or list of items recommended for purchase as well as instructions for the exercises being suggested, explicitly stating that I would not remember the item names and needed instructions for the exercises and I would need to do my research as I am always open to new ideas. Mary did not provide the requested items. The experience was stressful and I felt very rushed. It is unfortunate that Mary is the only technician who provides this laser treatment for the three locations of The Foot Center so I will have no opportunity to meet and work with another person.

We have several members of our family with very specific health needs and Dr. Carl and his staff keep us up to date so we don't have to remember all of the details! They take care of it for you. Making appointments is as easy as can be. Prescription refills are always checked and evaluated and dispensed appropriately. Cathy is the lead nurse and she is always super organized and extremely helpful and communicative! Colleen is such a sweet and welcoming member of WellcomeMD. I always love seeing her face!:) Heidi is fabulous on the phone and great with communications. She gets the job done! But when it comes to your health, your relationship with your doctor, it's an intimate dynamic because it requires clarity and trust on the part of the doctor and patient. Dr. Carl is so relaxed that he puts his patients at ease immediately. He is thorough and goes through all of your blood panels with you one-on-one and makes excellent suggestions and also is complimentary if he feels that you are doing well. He will prescribe supplementation only if it is reflected as needed in your bloodwork. Personally, my blood pressure zooms up every time I go to the doctor. But with Dr. Carl, he brings it back to normal and puts me at ease. Obviously, my entire family and I are fans of WellcomeMD. I recommend Dr. Carl and Dr. Colfer to everyone I know! As an aside, we drive 1.5 hours each way, just to be a part of their practice. They are THAT good.
