I know it sounds strange to be thankful for a root canal, but that's exactly what I am. I called this office on an emergency basis because I needed treatment before a very important upcoming surgery. They were able to get me in the very next day due to a cancellation, and I couldn't be more grateful. From the moment I walked through the door, I felt calm and reassured that everything was going to be okay. Becky, the dental assistant, was phenomenal. She immediately put me at ease and helped calm every nerve and fear I had about the procedure. The entire team works like a well-oiled machine. They always seemed to have the correct tools and materials ready before the doctor even had to ask for them. It was honestly so impressive to watch them work together--it felt like watching a symphony. Everyone knew their role, and they executed it flawlessly. As for the root canal itself, I was in absolutely zero pain. I know that's hard to believe when it comes to root canals, but it's true. I was mildly sore afterward for a couple of days, but at its worst it was maybe a 1 or 2 out of 10, and Tylenol was more than enough to manage it. I'm incredibly grateful for the entire team and the care I received. They took an experience that I had been dreading and made it remarkably easy. I've been to this office multiple times for root canals. One time I actually went to sleep during a ROOT CANAL! I will come to this office every time I need Endodontics done no matter what the scope. I was referred to Dr. Gearing's office and I was set up with an amazing dentist, Dr. Haugen, who did an outstanding job on my root canal. The office set me up with an appointment within a very short time. They were the friendliest staff! Dr. Haugen was very patient with my special needs, very thorough in explaining things, and responded in simple clear terms whenever I had questions. He checked in with me repeatedly to see if I needed any more anesthesia (which I did not). I have no hesitation in referring anyone to this office. AMAZING, HONEST AND THOROUGH STAFF! My retreatment was very successful! My experience with the entire staff was amazing! My primary-care dentist warned me that the retreatment (redoing a root canal) may not be possible due to its "advance" stage and that my tooth may have to be pulled, I was also told by my primary dentist that I may need a total 3 root canals! Dr. Gearing's wife, Nicole, got me into a consultation almost immediately (thank you, Nicole!) when I called and told them this. They have state-of-the-are equipment and it showed that I only needed one root canal. They were very honest, and I am so grateful for that. Dr. Haugen, who had performed an amazing job on a prior root canal (on another tooth) assured me that this retreatment would most likely be successful. He spent almost 2 hours on my retreatment, always checking in with me, explaining everything along the way, and very patient with my concerns. He promptly followed up with my after-care, as well as Penny and Gretchen. The most important thing I experienced was the generosity and honesty of this clinic. Dr. Haugen didn't "sugar-coat" the fact that there was a possibility that the retreatment might not take, but instead he gave clear reasons and facts for me to make my own decision. Dr. Haugen felt confident that he could help me, and he did AMAZING prior work on another tooth 2 years ago. He also spent extra time analyzing the other 2 teeth and assured me that they absolutely did not need root canals. For this reason alone, I highly recommend this office: they are extremely honest. The treatment was very affordable and I thank everyone at this office! I highly recommend Dr. Gearing Endodontics and Dr. Haugne to anyone who may need their wonderful care. I just had my first root canal with Dr. Gearing and it was 100% painless. Such a huge relief.

My regular dentist referred me to a few dentists for a better look at my painful molar. It was imperative that we save the tooth if we could, since the tooth next to it had already been extracted years ago. James Gearing provided a quick appointment and a great price. I think I called at the right time because they called be back saying that they had a cancellation and was able to see me quick... same day I think! Most dentists were booked out 2 weeks for this type of visit, and I'm sure they were too except the cancellation happened. He was able to spot the fracture and recommended a root canal. I set up the appointment that day. He performed the root canal on a separate visit and did an excellent job so my regular dentist was able to fit it for a crown. I just had my second root canal in the last six months. Both visits were so easy. It was like a choreographed dance as the instruments were handed back and forth between the dentist and assistants. A procedure that has a scary reputation was very pleasant and resulted in no pain whatsoever. I thank the excellent team Dr Gearing has assembled. Dr Gearing and the whole staff are excellent. I have had several root canals performed there. One Sunday evening I was in immense pain when Dr. Gearing and his wife came back from being out of town and were able to alleviate the acute pain before a scheduled root canal. I am shocked to see that anyone had a decent experience with the front office here. I saw Dr. Gearing for a painful, infected tooth in late December. He prescribed me antibiotics and sent me home with an appointment on January 19,2023. At the time of my appointment I gave them my insurance and they billed the wrong insurance. They promised, though, that I'd get a call to get an earlier appointment as I was in pain. No call ever came. .I got a call on January 18, 2023 the day before my root canal. I was told that since I didn't have insurance I needed to pay over 1K the next day. I told them I did have insurance and mused why the had not followed through in the month since my first appointment. The woman was so rude. I was not. I am nothing if not polite. She was furious that I had pointed out that they had a month to sort this out, but didn't call until right before my appointment. I've never been treated like this. She actually canceled my appointment and then called to tell me that I had a balance. From the first appointment which I tried to pay, but they refused saying "It will get rolled into the whole bill, don't worry." Again, perhaps I'm used to going to better dentist offices, but no one, doctor or no, has ever treated me so poorly. read more

I recently went in for a procedure at Dr. Gearing's office, and was very pleased with the treatment that I received. I was nervous about the procedure because I have never had this done before. Upon entering the office, I was greeted by a staff that was warm, kind, caring, and knowledgeable. This immediately put me at ease. When it was time for the procedure Dr. Gearing was also compassionate and caring and explained step-by-step as he was performing my procedure. My daughter was referred here by her regular dentist. When scheduling her appointment I asked if they could use her X-rays from her previous appointment with her own dentist. I was told over the phone and in person, when I checked in, that she would need to have them done there. After their third attempt at an x-ray and exposing my daughter to radiation I walked into the room to tell my child she had to hold as still as possible. The dental assistant informed me she was holding still, but their equipment was too large for her mouth. Dr Gearing walks in at this point and I asked why they couldn't use her x-rays from her previous appointment a week ago with her dentist. He very condescendingly said "Well we could if I had them!" and continued to mumble under his breath to another dental assistant. And they went for their fourth attempt at another failed x-ray. So he took a referral for a child knowing he doesn't have the proper equipment to even take a simple X-ray of my child's mouth. And he suggested I call her dentist to send over the X-rays, which he should have had his staff do prior to her appointment. So I left not knowing whether she needed a root canal done right away or needs to wait longer for the root to develop more. After paying out of pocket to be spoken down to and still have no answers, I most certainly would NEVER recommend this place to others. Receptionist and dental assistants seemed friendly. I'm expecting a call back tomorrow and if they still give me no answers, I will be reporting Dr. Gearing to the state dental board for charging me for a service he couldn't fulfill. read more

Dr. Gearing was unable to perform a root canal($1100 cash) on my molar due to the large size of my teeth, and my long roots he claimed. He attempted, and was unsuccessful. He did half a root canal and sent me on my way still in pain. He wouldnt advise me what to do next, wouldnt tell me if i should get a crown over the still painful tooth, wait, go to another endodontist, or what. He seemed interested in drilling into my jaw from the side to access the root (a complicated, dangerous, expensive procedure). Couldnt perform a simple root canal on a molar, didnt refer me anywhere, would give advice, and definitely no mention of any partial or full refund. Office staff is ruthless. My advice is to find someone else unless you have small teeth and want to pay twice as much for a root canal. Thats just the root canal not the crown. They charge another grand for that or more. Lots of fancy equipment, but apparently my teeth are too big. Oh yes and they never contacted me once after, and when i contacted them for advice i was not helped read more

Dr. Gearing is OK but his billing department is incompetent. They were confused about insurance billing, sent me one bill, which I called to question. They were going to call me back with an answer, but never did. Instead I received a collections notice, from a collection agency! My credit is now affected because of incompetent billing staff. All this for a whopping $70.00! If you go here do NOT rely on his staff do competently bill you. read more

Dr. James Gearing review.3/20/2017. You can trust Dr. Gearing. I believe he has your best health at heart. He is a good Christian man and I feel, when he does your dental work, he is following what the Bible teaches; he is doing his work as though he was doing it for the Lord. One of my previous dentists had discharged me because I had pain in all four quadrants and he couldn't figure out why. Dr. Gearing found out why. The guy had missed a fourth root on two different teeth in different quadrants. I believe the guy had a serious problem of not keeping his mind on his work. I was telling Dr. Gearing this and he walked out into the waiting room showed me a picture on the wall that shows Jesus standing right beside the dentist. Sometimes, a picture can say more than a thousand words. I think his wife, whom works in the office, is a first class lady. She was the first person I met in his office. She is very friendly, kind and helpful. She is a good Christian lady. Aaron is extremely kind and helpful. He has helped me on numerous occasions and made it a point to let me know I could always call him. Gretchen, in the billing department, is very helpful, kind and understanding. I recommend having Dr. James Gearing do your root canals. I have had two different dentists in Sonora miss a fourth root and upon being told neither one returned my money for their failed work. read more
