From having a 5 min healthy discussion on preferences of wing-tip sirloin and ribs of beef I was given a sneeky peep round the back. These guys provide the beef for the best steak places in Glasgow. I'd eaten at one of them earlier in the week and my eyes were bulging at the trays of chateaubriands and rib in sirloins. So, as you'd expect, their meat is very well sourced and as good as you're going to get anywhere. I took a1kg 1rib Angus and pan roasted it in butter and wilted rosemary to get a good sear, then a quick 15 mins in the oven. I had it sat on some roasted beetroot puree with a port, wine and fresh beef stock reduction and the beef was some of the best I've ever eaten. Superb quality and ageing. Week after I wanted a lamb rump as I had the hunger for some dauphinoise. They were happy just to prep some up straight away, no fuss. The lamb was delicious........as was the dauph ;) ........and the sausages. Get the Italian fennel ones and slow cook cook them in your tomato sauce for pasta. Very, very impressive. Prices are as you'd expect for meat of this quality. Look on the window for weekly £10 deals. Steak and chicken. Well worth it.

Walk by often enough, but was compelled to go in today noticing the £10 offer which includes 2 sirloin steaks, 2 pork loins, 4 steak lorne sausages and 4 pork sausages. And if that doesn't make you want to go as well, you're either a vegetarian, or just plain ole crazy (yes, those are different). Nice decor, welcoming, with a good layout and professional staff. Excellent selection of all sorts, including lamb burgers that are absolutely getting destroyed next visit. Delighted with my purchase today and will return. Enough said.

Campbell Butchers appear to be plodding away and retaining its strong local ties and customers with good special offers , quality produce (free range eggs and such), and a friendly expert approach which is missing entirely from its big brother down the road. Rant alert: Supermarkets don't have butchers, they have meat choppers, despite what their sickly sweet adverts would have us believe....oh and just out of interest, has anyone else lost all respect for that Richard Hammond bloke after those boke-worthy (thanks Adele; see Stereo review) Morrison's adverts, crash or no crash your still a mozzer hussy!!! Anyway back to reality. In an ever increasingly independent butchers free Glasgow its nice to see one thriving and not abusing its position by charging the earth for a sausage.

They stock a good range of high quality raw meats as well as cooked cold cuts of meat. Their ham on the bone is fabulous. It's really nice to still find genuine butchers as opposed to having to buy meat from supermarkets. Another advantage is that you can buy small quantities rather than large paks of meat. The staff are very helpful and are able to offer advice on the best cuts of meat and how to prepare and cook them.

I was not disapointed - a HUGE array of spices are to be found - at really cheap prices too, and in bulk or smaller. Can't find that elusive spice you need for that fancy curry in any tesco or corner shop nearby?\If you don't find it here I'll eat my hat. Or at least your curry.

I was told that the chicken & beef was halal, a little strange when they sold so much pork. A good enough butchers, there was just little variety available.

I bought Minced Beef,Stewing Steak breakfast stuff and a Silverside Joint. With the breakfast stuff I got thick potato scones from A & A Bakers they are very scrummy. So this weekend we had Bolognese with Linguine, a Red wine casserole and today a very good Roast Beef Dinner although I say it myself. My two offspring actually commented that it was the best beef joint I had ever cooked praise indeed, I did leave the beef rarer that I normally would it was delicious and melt in the mouth. I definetly think that meat from the butcher is tastier than Supermarkets.
