I hired Schumann Electric after looking at his overwhelming positive reviews to address panel…read moreconcerns. He reached out immediately, was professional in interactions and was prompt in his work. The work area was generally kept neat too. I found Schumann Electric expensive, but most trades are these days. Several years have past and I found myself having to troubleshoot several issues, including a dead GFCI. After confirming the GFCI was actually okay, I found that the neutral was open. I verified continuity through junction boxes and traced the issue back to the panel Schumann Electric replaced where he triple tapped the neutral / ground bar at this location. The neutral was open because it became loose. The wire had become hot due to the high impedance of the poor triple tapped connection. For those unaware, this is how fires start. A circuit breaker will not protect you with a high impedance / poor connection as it knows nothing about the nature of the load. It'll protect you from drawing too much current, but it knows nothing about if that current is turning into heat at a poor connection. This is why this is not allowed for most panels, including parts he installed. While in the panel, I found multiple instances of the neutral / ground bar being double or triple tapped. I also found a couple of instances of double tapped breaker hots - also not allowed. You can separately google this to confirm my statements. An investigation of metal junction boxes Schumann Electric installed showed that the box was not grounded. In installations with metal boxes, it is not enough to ground the receptacle - the box must be tied to ground too for safety and parasitic capacitance reasons. This is a small infraction compared to the multiple tapped bars and breakers, which were a clear danger to the fire safety of the house, it's occupants, and property. I expected better from a licensed electrician and for the steep money I paid. Not at all impressed. Infuriating really, considering the safety and property implications.

Had them at my house twice. First time, price didn't seem too bad. Minor job and I know some…read moreelectricians can be expensive. Second time, had them come to install some light fixtures. They broke one of the flush mount glass shades during install and didn't tell me. I thought I had heard something but assumed it was something much less severe and didn't notice it for a few days afterwards. Luckily I was able to get supplier to replace the glass dome free of charge. I didn't mention it to them because the supplier took care of it but there is NO WAY they weren't aware of what happened. They had another job cancel so I had them replace a bunch of fluorescent bulb "office" type fixtures in my basement. At my house for less than 6 hours, taking into account the cost of materials, I believe the hourly rate worked out to about $500+/hr per guy. Considering I gave them work to fill in many hours that were actually cancelled on them, I don't want to say they took advantage but I certainly didn't receive any consideration for what would have been a wasted afternoon. For the basement lights, I wasn't charged by the hour but a flat rate per light replaced which turned out to be outrageous. Also, they left me approximately 15-20 fixtures that I had to figure out how to dispose. The work was completed nicely but the way they charge is a bit crazy and the broken fixture and "good luck" with disposal were very disappointing. I'll look elsewhere next time.

We got…read more7 estimates, ranging from companies that advertise on KYW and the back of SEPTA buses to smaller one man shops. We ended up selecting King HVAC and I'm really glad that we did. He offered us a modulating furnace and A/C for the same price as what another big player offered (they were selling a 2 stage system). His warranty was also beyond the standard 10/1, it was 13 years parts, 3 years labor. He sells Bryant, which is the same thing as Carrier. Wifi thermostat, he's running new gas lines for us, the whole thing. He's very professional and carried a book with him that included photos of his install. He pointed out where he would put the condensation sensors, how he would route the lineset, the whole thing.. which impressed me. He's also very accessible over the phone and pretty responsive over e-mail. Joe and his Dad spent a day and a half installing the system and were just awesome. Finally, two or three years later, we had a problem after a thunderstorm where the AC wouldn't run. I called him and he was able to swing by with only a few hours notice on a Sunday. He found that one of the circuit breakers was reset or maybe bad. He just flipped it back on and stuck around for a few minutes to make sure it was all good. Best part? No charge and he was here for probably a half hour on a Sunday. You can see the difference between a small operation like Joe and a larger place that advertises everywhere. The real value is in supporting a small business and you're rewarded with great customer service compared to the big, nameless companies.

I finally took things into my own hands and searched for a reputable and highly rated handyman on Yelp. There were several options to choose from, but I was immediately drawn to Brian's business because it is locally owned and operated by him. Plus, I really liked his bio. I could tell he was someone who enjoyed his work and was focused on high quality outcomes for customer projects. Brian did not disappoint. Every step of the process was a good one. My first point of contact was through Yelp messaging. That's when I first knew I was on the right track because Brian promptly replied. Moreover, his communication skills were excellent from the get-go. He was able to fit me into his schedule a few days after my request. He arrived on time prepared with what he needed to do the job. Everything went smoothly, especially because Brian and I had reviewed the installation instructions through photos I attached to our Yelp messages. He was able to acquire the remaining needed materials that I did not have on hand. Brian clearly knew what he was doing and got the mailbox installed without any problems. He charged a reasonable amount and was a pleasure to work with. I had a great customer experience. I already have other projects lined up for him. Living in a 200-year-old home is going to provide plenty of opportunities to call on Brian's experience and excellent problem-solving skills.

Living in Chadds Ford has its charms, but with that comes its perils. We have been in our home 30 years, and suffered many years with long bouts of no power due to no power from ice and downed trees during summer storms. We were referred to JMAC after my oxygen dependent mother moved in and we could not risk protecting her with her medical needs. JMAC was by far the most reasonable and reliable company of all of the companies that we contacted to purchase and install a whole house generator. We no longer have to worry living in the country having the peace of mind that our Generac will kick on providing us everything we need to survive during these lengthy power outages and JMAC is a phone call away to support us if ever needed. Our only regret is not doing it when we moved in. Over 10 years and counting being #GeneracStrong . I highly recommend JMAC and Generac for your alternate power needs. About 6 years ago, JMAC installed a whole house generator for me. They continue to do its yearly maintenance. I am very happy that I chose this company. They are family owned and the employees are family members. They did a great job installing the generator. My house had issues due to mistakes by a previous electrician. They were able to figure out a solution and implement it. The father and both sons are so nice, meaning they work efficiently, they answer questions in a manner that doesn't make you feel like you are being a bother. Plus the mother is the office person and she too is nice. I only have good things to say about them. There was an initial visit to view our house and our needs to determine the size of generator we needed. Their price was what we anticipated. After signing the contract and making a deposit, the generator was ordered. Once it arrived, Jamac scheduled the installation. It took 5 hours to install and add the gas hookup. I bought my generator at Lowe's home improvement store and JAMAC installed it and has since maintained it from the time they installed it and I have been nothing but satisfied with everything they have done they provide top-notch service and it is always a pleasure to talk to Angela and the whole team at JAMAC. I wish I could find more contractors to work with that were as qualified as competent as they are. We are so happy with our generator and feel safe when a storm is approaching. Recently my mother in law was at my house in a hospital bed and it was a very hot, humid day and there were about 15 people in my house and for no apparent reason the power went out. Our generator saved the day and turned on in minutes and we were able to continuing caring for my mother in law using the hospital bed which has an electrical component to raise and lower the bed. Everyone I dealt with was professional and the price quoted was very competitive. The installation of the transfer switch and plumbing (NG) was done with quality. Basically, an entire zone wasn't getting any heat and the pump was running hot. Karalis' guy charged me a $135 diagnostic fee to tell me that either the system was air bound, or the pump was bad. I could've diagnosed that myself. He promised to get me an estimate on making changes to the system so that the problem would be resolved. After a few few weeks of not hearing from them, I called and got the owner on the phone. He said that they were looking into it and that they would get back to me with an estimate for the work. It is now been three months. Radio silence. I'm not impressed, I won't use them, and I recommend you don't either.
