I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food, but I'm a bigger fan of Jalapeños Mexican food. Their seafood burrito is a must have. Kid and family friendly environment makes your meal more special. read more

One of my favorite places to go. The atmosphere is laid back and on some nights they bring out a DJ & clear space for a dance floor. As far as food goes, I've only eaten the fajita quesadillas and I love them every time. read more

Your staff is great and always makes great food and my boy Sam works there. Give him a raise or I won't come back

The best Mexican food around. Always fresh, always the same delicious consistent taste. Premium ingredients always used. When they say Carne Asada it is that not some other cheap cut of meat. I enjoy the jamies tacos and the mushroom tacos. The service is always amazing. Pera and Felipe are amazing servers and they take care of you. This is the only mexican food worth the money. read more

I'm not quite certain as to what is going on in this establishment? Last week I had a group of my usual mom friends meet at Jalapenos . It was Thursday night and had happened to be Halloween . All of our children are High school aged and we were planning our next fundraiser. We decided on a table at the bar as we knew we would be conversing after dinner. We arrived at around 8 the bar area was not full but had customers. Our server was also the bartender. So we waited a bit to be greeted , but when we did he was polite etc and introduced himself as Matt. Fast forward to after ordering our food and as it arrived there were a few inconsistency in our order. Matt was less than thrilled to oblige, but he did have the corrected. He stated that it was the food runners error, although I'm Not sure why the food runner would have put chicken in my tacos in lieu of steak, but I digress. After that we were basically ignored. Our drinks were empty and we actually had to ask another server from the front area for more water. She said she would find the bartender to make us more drinks. When he arrived it was clear to us what he was doing on his siesta from the bar. He reeked of marijuana. No wonder he messed up our order and was ignoring us. He did bring our drinks but again we were ignored after that. Dirty plates etc. he seemed to be giving his attention to certain bar patrons etc. when we asked the waitress a second time for assistance she apologized and suggested we say something to the manager. When she pointed out who the manager was it all became clear to me why this restaurant is run the way it is and this service is seemingly acceptable. The "CUSTOMER" at the bar was actually the supposed general manager... mind you he wasn't there the entire time but when our table was needing assistance he was doing shots with the bartender, and MIA along with the bartender. When both of them returned we asked for another round of drinks. We were informed that last call had been called and we needed to pay. After overhearing his comments to another table, he had a party to attend and needed to leave. At this time it was 945 on a Thursday. The website says they are open until 11. I called 3 times to speak with the owner as I clearly would fall on deaf ears if I called and spoke with Jim The general manager. Elsalto and lacaretta are in close proximity to all of our homes, they will now get our business. It's now been a week with no phone all from anyone. Jalapeños has clearly seen it's hay day.. and what from what I can see it's become a haven for slovenly dressed managers with obvious drug problems. read more

Staff was very attentive and diligent. Food was mediocre--very dry over cooked chicken. Great atmosphere and no wait time.

Food was delicious! Service was impeccable! We had party of two & the wait was only 15 minutes. Everyone was super friendly and our mango margarita'a was on POINT! read more

Meh at best. Salsa is the best around though. That's about all it has going for it. The steak is nauseating with every other bite being fatty chunks. The beef for tacos is a runny mess with no flavor. Shredded chicken is about the same as the beef. You're better off getting veggie tacos. Just not that great. read more

I surely wouldn't call this "authentic". Seems more like an American version of "Mexican" food. I don't recommend it and there were bugs in my strawberry margarita..NO BUENO read more

Usually not one to leave a review but from the 10 minute hold on the phone I experienced, missing items, and lack of customer service I had too. I simply called back to let them know they forgot the guacamole and sour cream and the entree we ordered didn't come with beans as stated. It came with two types of rice. I was calling just to be sure I can go back and pick it up because I had originally planned too. The young lady on the phone simply stated " well I didn't charge you for the those items, that's why you didn't get them but if you want my manager I'll get him ". I have the receipt and clearly see the charge. At that point it wasn't worth the back and forth. I can see how the business operates and don't wish to return. read more

Food was good and the blue margarita drink frozen or on the rocks was to die for ! I also stayed late to enjoyed the restaurant once it turned into a club read more

The food and drinks are excellent and the service is great, BUT they need to clean and dust more, spiderwebs were everywhere, when I look out the window and above my head I don't want to see spiderwebs read more

Whatever you do, do not get the waitress, Pera. She has zero customer service skills and she is unfamiliar with the menu prices. The only time we seen her was at the beginning and the very end to collect the check. She never once asked if we needed anything or drink refills. Honestly, this place is overpriced and non-authentic. You are better off going to El Salto express for a better experience and half the price! read more

Jalapenos - The waitress Pera - Mexican Near Me - Schereville, Indiana

My fiancé and I second time visiting (1st time I was pregnant back in 2015). We wanted to try the $5 margaritas and grab something quick to soak it up with. Margaritas (frozen) were okay. We both got a torta, steak for him & grilled chicken for me. When our food arrived, the bottom of my torta bread was moderately wet. As if it had sat for 10 mins before it was brought to me, kinda wet. The plate wasn't wet so it had to have been soggy from the toppings. I've had a better torta. I've never ate only half of a torta but, I did last night. Other things to add, I didn't like that dishes (appetizer saucers) were already on the table as we were seated. Don't remember that from last visit. We had to ask for napkins and the complimentary chips and salsa- chips didn't taste fresh but salsa was excellent! read more

Entirely way too expensive for what they provide. Very mediocre service, not fabulously clean, and food tastes cookie cutter and not quite authentic. In fact, I ordered taco's for lunch and I had no desire to finish or save the 3rd one. Too many great taco stands and sit downs around town to spend another dime here. read more

First time here! The food was above average to say the least. The service was decent for Indiana standards. The place has a good vibe and very culturally diverse. I've been told on the weekends it can converts to a nightclub which would be interesting and something to consider down the road. I would try this restaurant again and also this "Nightclub". read more

After about 15 minutes of waiting at the table and asking two separate servers who our waitress was, our crook of a waitress finally takes our order. After we finished our meal and paid our bill, via credit, (which was 54.67), I left a 7 dollar tip which was more than I should have left for the sticky handed thief. Checked account balance and observed $72.17 was charged by the thieving waitress. Called the place up and was told by worker they had other calls from customers who made similar complaints of the over tipping bandit, however the gratuity thieving female employee of 18 years will continue to work their because the incompetent owner won't do anything about it. Was told to ask for a different waitress the next time we come in. If you find yourself at this place you better double check your accounts because of this pirate, owner and any other swindlers who work at this establishment that turns a blind eye. read more

Waitress was great, food was good, host was not very friendly but what was most disturbing, they were not practicing social distancing. Customers were seated at tables that were much closer than the recommended 6 feet distance. I questioned the host about it and he did not seem to think it was important. read more

Great food...have not had anything i have not liked. The jalepeno salsa is amazing! Margaritas are good. They definitely season the meats well. Way better than the average mexican restaurant. I go out of my way to stop by when driving from Chicago to Michigan. read more

This restaurant only deserves 2 stars right now due to the management. I have been going to this restaurant since it first opened in the 90's. I was underage then and just loved it. As I became older, it was a great place to eat, drink, listen to music, meet new people, and become friends with the staff. My mom, myself, and others have loved becoming friends with the Jalapeños staff, especially Yesenia and Felipe. They have always welcomed us as one of their own which we still appreciate . However, the new management at this establishment is awful. They do not care about their customers at all in my opinion. Management needs to change yet again. #bringbackoldjalapenos read more

The food was excellent, no doubt about that part of our experience with Jalapenos. The service was decent. Our waiter appeared at somewhat convenient times to refill our drinks and to ask if us we had needed anything else. If you are getting dessert, I highly recommend asking your waiter to bring it over way before you're done eating your entree. We had to wait for about 15 minutes for dessert to be brought out after I had asked for it. We told our waiter that we had a Groupon deal as soon as we were brought over to the table. He told us to hold off on that until we were done eating. When we received our bill, the waiter claimed that the manager had to go through a whole process of making sure the Groupon voucher worked. He had to take my boyfriend's phone to the manager's office to verify the Groupon. We sat around for about 10 minutes, waiting for them to make sure it was valid. I would go back if I was in the neighborhood and really wanted their food.. but I would not go out of the way to go back to this restaurant. read more

I'm so disappointed and appalled after not finding a strand but 3 strands of hair on the plate, on the table and then in my mouth from this establishment. When I advised the manager of the issue, he stated that his cooks all had shorter hair than himself..so I was called into question and take offense. I didn't ask for any kind of discount or free meal, but to have my experience to be called into question?! I won't be going back read more

Worst experience. Customer Service from the Manager Dave was awful. Still waiting for a call from the owner. Spend your money elsewhere.

We went to this place last Friday. We won't be going back. We got there a little before 9:30, and they sat us in what I guess is the main room? The service was slow and unpleasant. We each ordered a margarita and some food. The food was ok, I got fajitas and I'm pretty sure they are one of the hardest things to mess up in the Mexican food world, so we were ok there. Fast forward to 9:50, and this random swarmy looking guy comes over and tells us "um, no rush or anything, but in ten minutes we're clearing out all the tables, including yours, to make way for the club." Um... we had JUST gotten our food. I understand places switch like that sometimes, but I wish the hostess had given us the heads up when she was sitting us there- we would have asked to sit somewhere else. A couple minutes go by, and tables are emptying. The guys come through and take out tables, basically as soon as someone leaves. Before we know it, we're one of the few tables left...and while they didn't SAY anything, there was a line of guys across the room just basically staring at us, waiting for us to leave so they could take our table away. Even before this all started happening, they started up the fog machine. Nothing adds flavor to a meal more than some nasty artificial fog, let me tell you. To add insult to injury, the margaritas were 18 DOLLARS EACH. Granted, they were big, but warn a bitch first! They don't mention that on the menu anywhere. Peace out, we won't be back. read more

Not very many places to go out dancing in NW Indiana. This Jalepenos turns into a night club after restaurant hours. I haven't been here for food, just the night club. It was okay for entertainment in NW Indiana....I MUCH prefer Chicago! read more

First of all, for a Friday evening the restaurant was not that busy. (It used to be years ago). I ordered the rib eye steak, which was good. My husband had tacos. Presentation was good, however the tacos were very bland. read more

Split a Carne Asade dinner yesterday and am wondering how a hole like Maria's in Highland has a better rating. This stuff was excellent!!!

Good food, love the rice. We were very excited to find a decent Mexican Restaurant in NWI. Will be back again to try the giant margaritas !

Good food, just beware if trying to use a groupon! The staff and management were unwilling to accept my groupon because 2 drink specials were purchased at my table of 5. Although enough regularly priced food was purchased, I was denied my groupon. That was too bad, but this really did ruin my experience! read more

Wow, I'm shocked to see all of these negative reviews. I've dined here several times and the food has always been delicious, and the service above par. This isn't your average store front burrito joint, and the items on the menu reflect that. My only complaint really had nothing to do with the restaurant, but with the family at the table next to us who, during our last visit, let their kids run around the dining room like animals. It's not mom's cooking, but it's pretty darned good. read more

It had and I stress had good food maybe 10 years ago not any more I went for the Sunday buffet and got sick from the nasty food they dished up and have not been back since read more

This place looks like it has seen better days. I have been here about five times, and I have never been all that wowed. The food is okay, but not particularly flavorful. I was just here for lunch with a friend, and they had a "Taco Bar" set up that just scared the bejeezus out of me. It looked like it had been sitting out for quite some time. Service is okay, not great. The prices are medium-range, but I wish the quality were better. Honestly, I'd rather go to Chili's...that's how NOT authentic this place is. It's not awful. I've had worse, but I think I've given this place its last chance. If you want much better food, much cheaper prices, and you don't care about ambiance, try El Amigo a few miles away! read more

Yuk, is this really supposed to be Mexican cuisine??? Are you serious? The food is definitely not a good representation of REAL, AUTHENTIC Mexican cuisine. UNACCEPTABLE! Hateeed It!!!!! read more

Jalapenos had a groupon so I purchased it to give the place a try. We went on a Saturday night around 5:15 and were seated right away. The waitress was very nice and always checked if we needed anything. The chips and salsa were excellent. We ordered the chicken fajita quesadillas which were hot and full of flavor. I ordered the spinach enchiladas for my dinner and it was a huge portion and delicious. I love having a doggy bag to take home. I will definitely go back to Jalapeños and try the drinks next time. Great food and fast, excellent service. read more

The food was very good! The service not so friendly.. Not because they were busy either. Only 6 people in the place.. Typically a decent place. The food is not spectacular but is almost always steady. Went Fathers Day mid- afternoon with three others. The place was not filled and there were many empty tables. The service was HORRIBLE from start to finish. It took twenty minutes from being seated until we were even offered water. We quickly ordered drinks and it took almost 15 minutes for those to be brought to us. We were seated near the bar and could see that the bartender was doing nothing. My guess is the waitress failed to drop the order. Apps came within a reasonable time after ordering. The entrees took forever to arrive, at least two to three times longer than normal. We tried to get the attention of the waitress to order more drinks but we were ignored. People at a table near us were whistling in order to attract the attention of a waitress. The service was poor throughout the room. It was a hugely disappointing experience today and I doubt I will be back soon , if ever. Management needs to examine staffing levels and look at those working there. read more

I ordered the Jalapeno's Burrito. Good size burrito. Very spicy. It's not the best burrito in the region but its definitely above average. That's one of their recommended dishes. I totally agree. It came with big portions of rice and beans side dishes. They were fresh which isn't always the case for side dishes. I read other reviews and people complained about slow service. I went on a very busy Friday night. There was a 20 to 25 minute wait for a table which isn't bad for a Friday. We chose to eat at one of the pub tables in the bar area. The server brought us fresh nachos right away. Took our order right after bringing us the drinks. The food brought to us in a reasonable amount of time. Portions are big so you might not be able to finish it after eating a bunch of nachos. The only delay was my wifes Margarita. But the bar was packed so no complaints there. Back to the food, i recommend the Jalapeno's Burrito and Steak Tostadas. Both were fresh and tasty. One more thing. My previous visit to this restaurant was in the summer. We sat outside. Very comfortable. read more
